Anyone who has dealt with the military learned early on that our men and women in uniform don't speak English, they speak Acronym. Full fluency typically corresponds with time spent on a headquarters staff, where the only thing officers like more than acronyms is PowerPoint, and the only thing they like more than PowerPoint is a PowerPoint filled with acronyms.

And if there's one thing defense bureaucrats like, it's telling people to RTFM on the correct usage. (You can Google that one if you don't already know it.)

I - SNIP - Shutdown Nonperforming Information Processes - I got several hundred dollars award for defining and naming this acronym program in an insurance company. We. eliminated paper and computer reports that were obsolete but no one ever bothered shutting down so they printed every month and dumped.

I interviewed people who received reports and asked them what they did with them. One lady who I asked what was the name of a report she got and what she did with it. She told me it was called " part 5" and she said she filed them and after 5 years the oldest ones were taken away to archive.
I asked her who used these part 5's Answer " the men" used to. She was an old clerical staff and all the account executives were men. When we computerized but no one shut down the paper. Part 5's were the fifth copy of carbon multi page forms which we produced for years and no one used them. Some other ladies in other departments filed parts 1-4 for other "men" who also never used them. We paid old clerical staff to file reports no one used.
So see the military and private business are very similar in some ways.
