Its not "My Interpretation" mate .. It is that of modern scholarship and Judaism .. that of archaeology and History. Second .. your passage does not claim otherwise ?

Most importan is that this was a pointless exercize on your part as the meaning of 1 kings 16 makes no difference to the meaning of Judges 11 .. where YHWH compels child sacrifice .. and so either way .. YHWH compels child sacrifice. .. and there is no getting around this Biblical fact.

This may sound unbelievable but atheists and anti-religious biblical theories have even taken over in Theological departments at religious universities.

They are now teaching some things as "fact", that were originally controversial theories cooked up by atheists trying to disprove the bible. And this is being taught in religiously founded schools and the religious people are often too stupid to realize it.

Yes.. Marxism, after trying for the last century, has firmly taken over most seminaries. We may be the remnants

I don't know that it's anything for a believer to be worried about. I can see a scholar teaching the history of the Christian church and he knowing more about it than the Pope.

And any professor of ancient religion will necessarily not be an adherent of such, with the possible exception of Judaism.

Chuck Missler was raised in Southern California. Chuck demonstrated an aptitude for technical interests as a youth. He became a ham radio operator at age nine and started piloting airplanes as a teenager. While still in high school, Chuck built a digital computer in the family garage.

His plans to pursue a doctorate in electrical engineering at Stanford University were interrupted when he received a Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Graduating with honors, Chuck took his commission in the Air Force. After completing flight training, he met and married Nancy (who later founded The King’s High Way ministry). Chuck joined the Missile Program and eventually became Branch Chief of the Department of Guided Missiles.

Where are you getting this Marxism trope from ? "Most Seminaries taken over by Marxism" - your link says nothing about Marxism ?

Why would you say this ? I suppose we could claim that the Religious Right Fundamentalists veer towards a kind of collectivist totalitarianism .. but Fundamentalist Evangelical and Pentecostal are not "most seminaries" ..

The Jesus of the New Testament would, I think be aghast at the extent to which we refer to him as our "Lord" and savior. The word "lord" is too loaded and may not even be the best translation of what he called himself. What the apostles called him does not control here. I'm Catholic, but the Jews and Muslims who, as I understand it, view him as having been a great Rabbi, may be more correct than the Fathers of my own religion.

My question is whether Christ's mission on Earth was: 1) to redeem us in a mystical sense (accept him as your savior and the gates of Heaven are open to you, no matter how sinfully you live); or 2) to redeem us in a more practical sense by showing us how to live on this Earth. Please do not say "it's both." It's an annoying copout that tells me you really don't know. And you don't. You just know what you've been told, and what you believe.

My own inclination is towards the 2nd proposition. If Pol Pot, Wayne Gacy, the goons who murdered 200,000 priests after the Russian revolution, and Stalin had all "accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior" on their death beds, and I mean really meant it, and thereby been immediately and unconditionally forgiven their past sins, with their virtuous but pagan victims -- millions of them, some children -- being killed before they had the chance to even know who Christ was, then there is something very wrong with the formula.

You may find eternal life with Jesus, I don't know, but first you owe some time, to god and to the victims of your sin, in something like a Purgatory.

Thanks Brother Todd for sharing and giving us a glimpse into the life of Dr. Charles (Chuck) Missler! He seems to be a very interesting, gifted person, will check more into this man's fascinating, interesting godly life.

And yes indeed there has been so much scientific proof in regards to the Holy Bible. I know a while back I posted parts of the Bible that science confirms as being true, matter of fact it was on pg. 11 #253 of this thread P39. Let me just repost the scientific confirmations below.

    We Read in Scripture:

22 God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. Isaiah 40:22 NLT

(Science has confirmed the shape of our planet as round. How could Isaiah who lived approx. 2700 years ago know this if not for God telling him this fact about the shape of our planet as being round)

5 Food is grown on the earth above, but down below, the earth is melted as by fire. Job 28:5 NLT

(Our planet's core is hot and this verse 5 in Job 28 mentions it. Again how could the author of the Book of Job have known this if not for God telling them about this fact approx. 4000 years ago or so)

7 God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. Job 26:7 NLT

(Earth indeed floats in space. God told the author of the Book of Job this fact approx. 4000 years ago or so)

7 Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Ecclesiastes 1:7 NLT

(Water changes state, the water cycle, also known as the hydrologic cycle, is a well-known phenomenon)

6 The Lord’s home reaches up to the heavens, while its foundation is on the earth. He draws up water from the oceans and pours it down as rain on the land. The Lord is his name! Amos 9:6 NLT

(This verse in Amos also mentions water changes state)

27 He draws up the water vapor and then distills it into rain. 28 The rain pours down from the clouds, and everyone benefits. Job 36:27-28 NLT

(These verses in Job also mentions water changes state)

7 He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses. Psalm 135:7 NLT

(Another example here in Psalm 135:7 of water changes state)

14 “Build a large boat[a] from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. 15 Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.[c] 16 Leave an 18-inch opening[d] below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper. Genesis 6:14-16 NLT

(According to geological evidence, the Great Flood of Noah might have actually happened. The ark would have worked, it turns out, the math is correct. According to calculations made by physics students at the University of Leicester in 2014, the ark would have actually floated and safely carried pairs of each animal species through the flood)

22 And as the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who minister before me.” Jeremiah 33:22 NLT

(There are countless stars in the sky. Sure, we know that the universe has a lot of stars. And by a lot, we're talking about up to a trillion stars per galaxy. And it's estimated that there about 100 billion galaxies in the universe!)

41 The sun has one kind of glory, while the moon and stars each have another kind. And even the stars differ from each other in their glory. 1 Corinthians 15:41 NLT

(Not all stars are created equal. The stars' brightness or magnitude varies)

Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ said,

35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. Matthew 24:35 NLT

(Celestial bodies don't last forever We now know that stars and other astronomical bodies die. Science has confirmed this, but the Bible also mentions it as we note here in Matt. 24:35)

3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:3 NLT

(The universe is made of invisible particles. It sounds like the Bible is talking about atoms. Protons, neutrons, and electrons on their own are invisible to the naked eye. Atoms make up pretty much everything, including us)

48 As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. 49 Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.

50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with only a sling and a stone, for he had no sword. 51 Then David ran over and pulled Goliath’s sword from its sheath. David used it to kill him and cut off his head. 1 Samuel 17:48-51 NLT

(A small boy defeating a giant might sound unlikely, but the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 says otherwise. David could have actually defeated Goliath. A slingshot might not be the most powerful weapon, but the stones from Elah Valley were made of barium sulphate, which is extremely dense and these would have easily hurt Goliath. But there's more. Being a giant, Goliath likely suffered from acromegaly (overproduction of growth hormone). This can cause problems with vision, and peripheral vision can be limited, which would have been handy for David)

6 You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains. Psalm 104:6 NLT

(There are mountains underwater. These landforms are actually called seamounts, and are mentioned in the Bible here in Psalm 104:6)

11 for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord.[a] It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible. Leviticus 17:11 NLT

(Creatures can't live without blood. Most of us are familiar with the Adam and Eve story of the Bible. Humans have, in fact, a female biological ancestor called Mitochondrial Eve, which precedes our species (Homo sapiens). There is, however, one thing that connects all us living creatures: blood)

5 On the seventh day the priest will make another examination. If he finds the affected area has not changed and the problem has not spread on the skin, the priest will quarantine the person for seven more days. Leviticus 13:5 NLT

(Isolation contains diseases. While proper quarantines developed later in history, the Bible advised to isolate the affected person for 7 days and if the affected area has not changed to isolate/quarantine them for another 7 days)

28 If you pick up its carcass, you must wash your clothes, and you will remain defiled until evening. These animals are unclean for you. Leviticus 11:28 NLT

(Sanitizing is really important. The pandemic has made us all pros in sanitizing our hands and clothes in order to avoid spreading germs, but the Bible mentioned its importance a long time ago as we note here in Leviticus 11:2)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 NLT

(Our brilliant scientist like physicist Albert Einstein theorized/concluded through his theory of relativity that the universe had a beginning and was not eternal as he had previously believed. His theory proved that the universe is not a cause, but instead one big effect—something brought it into existence. And of course Christians like myself believe it was Our Creator Almighty God who brought the universe and everything else that exists into existence.)

Oh and besides all these verses I presented above let me not forget all the many archaeological artifacts that authenticates the credibility of the Bible. A simple Google search will bring up all these archaeological artifact findings. One I find particularly fascinating is the Hittite Monuments From Boghazkoy...Mementos of an Imperial People.

And oh yes indeed Brother Todd may God continue His blessing upon us!

    We Read in Scripture:

Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ said,

6 Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 NLT

I don't think you will get much out of this thread if you don't do your own research.. I started 20 years ago to determine if the Bible was just a bunch of..well ..what antagonist here claim it is.. wanted to toss it a couple of times.. but now I consider it the ultimate Truth and the Word of the Creator.. if you dared read and study some of Missler's thesis.. you would come to relise that.

    Greetings Brother Matt!
One of Chuck's presentations is that an intentional and uncorrected misspelling calculates pi for several decimal points.. more than commonly available when building Solomon's temple.. it's in the part about th e radius of the bronze laver. Hebrew used numbers for letters. Science.

    So much revelations these days!

The common word for circumference is , qav. Here, however, the word seems to be misspelled. Yet, even misspellings can prove deliberate and revealing! The spelling of the word for circumference, , qaveh, adds a heh (). (In the text above each word also has a leading w as a conjunction for the masculine singular noun.) In the Hebrew Bible, the scribes never altered any text which they felt had been previously copied incorrectly. Rather, they noted in the margin what they thought the written text should be. The written variation is called a kethiv, (here as

Research on what -- you posted a link without citing anything from that link .. and the last link you posted did not address your claim that seminaries have gone Marxist.

None of the above has anything to do with your Marxist claim .. but instead of supporting this claim you warp in to another field - a different topic out of the Blue - claiming that if I was to read a moron's thesis I would realize the the Bible is the inerrent literal word of God..

"If you dared read and study" - The Bible.. you would realize what a moron this guy Missler is .. as the claim that "The Bible is the inerrent literal word of God" .. is preposterous nonsense. Demonstrably false silliness..

In speaking of the Noa story, lifted from the similar on of the Sumerians, no one has ever explained how an ark loaded with predators and prey managed to not have the predators ans humans not decimate the prey animals; did they all fast? And considering the faithful of those days had a propensity for animal sacrifice what animals were sacrificed?

God stuff.. ya gotta figure a Being that created the universe can do about anything with it He desires. BUT there are rules...but minor miracles are still ok.

Oh you could not prove definitely that the Noah story was lifted from Gilgamesh.. Oral story telling is ancient, long before writing.. I do not know how the ancients memorized long treatises.. they say the celts and Druids oral citations could last days.

wasn't until the Exodus that animal sacrifice was part of the Israelite ritual.. tho' some form of sacrifice as thanks and the share of the gods for a good harvest is as old as agriculture and animal husbandry.

It's definitely hard to figure out how there could be all the animals and humans claimed plus the food and fresh (salt free) water to maintain them.

There really are a LOT of kinds of animals in this world!

Sorry but the two of you have no idea what you're saying and so needless to say you're both far from the truth. I've said numerous of times on these threads of mine that the Holy Bible is not a book for the interpretation impaired.

So let me explain to clear it up for both of you and of course for others who are in the same boat as the two of you.

Polytheism is the belief that there are many gods. By doing some research we find that the word "poly" is a Greek word for "many" and "theism" the Greek word for "God". In ancient times we find that the best-known example of polytheism came from the Greek/Roman mythology and here are a few of those gods... (Greek: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Cronus, Aphrodite, Hades, Hephaestus, Demeter) (Roman: Jupiter, Juno, Neptune, Saturn, Venus, Pluto, Vulcan, Ceres)

Then we have the modern day example of polytheism in the religion of Hinduism which btw has over 300 million gods...whoa! And although Hinduism is pantheistic, it does hold beliefs in many gods. Interestingly even in polytheistic religions, one god usually reigns supreme over the other gods...Zeus in Greek/Roman mythology and Brahman in Hinduism.

As far as the Holy Bible is concerned some argue or imply (like yourselves wolf and gift) that it teaches polytheism in the Old Testament which is not true.

This false belief is due to interpretation issues when reading several passages that refer to "gods" in the plural. In other words people like you wolf and gift are misinterpreting what you're reading. Below are a few of those passages.

    We Read in Scripture:

3 “You must not have any other god but me. Exodus 20:3 NLT

17 “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. Deuteronomy 10:17 NLT

2 and the predicted signs or miracles occur. If they then say, ‘Come, let us worship other gods’—gods you have not known before— Deuteronomy 13:2 NLT
6 I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. Psalm 82:6 NLT

47 The king said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is the greatest of gods, the Lord over kings, a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this secret.” Daniel 2:47 NLT

Ancient Israel fully understood that there was only one true God, but they often did not live as if they believed that to be true, continually falling into idolatry and the worship of foreign gods. So what are we to make of these and other passages that speak of multiple gods? It is important to note that the Hebrew word Elohim was used to refer to the one true God and to false gods/idols. It functioned almost identically to the English word “god.”

Describing something as a “god” does not mean you believe it to be a divine being. The vast majority of Old Testament Scriptures which speak of gods are speaking of false gods, those who claim to be gods but are not. This concept is summarized below in 2 Kings 19:18 and notice what is said in Psalm 82:6-7 below.

    We Read in Scripture:

18 And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all—only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands. 2 Kings 19:18 NLT

6 I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. 7 But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’” Psalm 82:6-7 NLT

The Holy Bible actually clearly teaches against polytheism as illustrated when we read the following verses below.

    We Read in Scripture:

4 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.[a] Deuteronomy 6:4 NLT

5 The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! Psalm 96:5 NLT

19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.[a] Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. James 2:19 NLT

And so there is only one God. There are indeed false gods and those who pretend to be god, but again there is only one God in the Christian religion and so it is not a polytheistic religion.

.. "interpretation impaired" - Then your in big trouble mate .. as demonstrated previously - your interpretation coming from those snake charmer websites .. from the deceivers .. but also in this post.

    .

I have never argued that the Bible teaches polytheism in the OT .. and thus your inability to interpret what you read is demonstrated.

What is a Religious, Theological, Historical, Archaeological fact ... is that the Israelites practiced polytheism for most of their Biblical History - and the Bible reflects this polytheism ..constitutes part of the Historical Record .. a record that we are finding out is more accurate with time as new discoveries are made.

Not my lack of interpretation skills .. The Bible refers to the Israelits worshiping other Gods for most of their History .. not some big theological secret mate... clearly you have not even read the book and don't know what is in the book .. never mind interpretation.

When scripture posted that you disagree with .. you run away from it .. which is not showing skill in interpretation .. fail to answer basic questions .. again showing no such ability.

For example. What was the name of the "Most High" God that Abraham and Melchizedek the Canaanite Priest King worshiped ?

and another example .. Why is it that God YHWH liked the occasional Child Sacrifice .. which the Israelites engaged in .. as described in the Bible.

No, it's actually the other way around, it is you, right here that is demonstrating your inability to interpret what you read.

You've just proved my point...you have "interpretation impaired" issues.

Although you might have never directly argued that the Holy Bible teaches polytheism, you certainly implied by your statement that the Holy Bible depicts that it has at least 3 different Gods...making the Christian religion in your flawed view polytheistic. This flawed view of yours is all attributed to your "interpretation impaired" issues that you have...your inability to interpret correctly what you read.

    Below your statement implying polytheism:

Below my statement that you misinterpreted:

Note that I specifically said, "some argue or imply" and so again you might have never directly argued that the Holy Bible teaches polytheism but you most certainly implied by your statement that it does.

Conclusion: You giff have "interpretation impaired" issues. My sincere advice to you is to attend a class in improving your reading comprehension skills. If you're too embarrassed to physically attend a class you can perhaps do it on-line. I'm sure they have on-line classes to make it more convenient for you. Ok giff thanks for your responses it was a pleasure for me to respond to them.

    1) The statement of fact -- "The Israelites believed in many Gods" does not imply that the Bible teaches Polytheism.

Your claim to the contrary is what is "interpretation impared" demonstrating you inability to understand and interpret what you read .. a flaw you are desperately trying to project onto others.

The Bible depicts more than 3 different Gods .. what part of your "interpretation imparement" stopped you figuring this out. ? Clearly you havn't read the book .. not that it would have mattered because you obviously have yet to figure out (1)

The Bible depicts people worshiping the God's Chemosh - Molech - YHWH .. Azazel is depicted .. El Shaddai - and of course the El Asherah -Baal Trinity.

How many is that Mitt .. perhaps it is your math skills that are the problem .. I count 8 off the top of my head. How is it that you havn't figured out that there are at least 3 Gods depicted in the Bible ?

You come on here preaching about how the Bible is the literal word of God .. but have not even read the book .. sans perhaps a few passages you were directed to by those fundamentalist deceivers

First of all WanRen mentioned the New Covenant, not the New Covenant theology. There you go again...not being attentive into what you're reading.

The New Covenant (or New Testament) basically is the promise that Our Creator Almighty God makes with humanity that He will forgive sin and restore fellowship with those whose hearts are turned toward Him. Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant, and His death on the cross is the basis of the promise.

    We Read in Scripture:

Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ said,

20 After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. [a] Luke 22:20 NLT

The New Covenant was predicted while the Old Covenant was still in effect...the prophets Moses, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel all allude to the New Covenant.

Speaking about making things up that's what you're doing here. It's so obvious because you're not making any sense. To say that the New Covenant theology has been rejected by the vast majority of Christianity is essentially saying that the vast majority of the 2 billion or so practicing Christians worldwide have rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord Savior...sorry giff but that's ludicrous!

giff you just don't know what you're saying but of course Christians such as I know what you're saying...you're spewing out nothing but falsehoods because you suffer from this condition called "interpretation impairment" Somehow/someway you are blinded in interpreting Scripture correctly thus you continually spew out falsehoods.

The New Covenant theology and Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ are synonymous with each other, without one then there is not the other. And so if the majority of Christians reject the New Covenant theology as you claim then they are no longer Christians (Believers/followers of Christ)..again that's ludicrous!

The people who reject the New Covenant theology are the Jews who follow Judaism, not Christians. They (Jews) don't believe Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ was/is the Messiah. They believe the Messiah hasn't arrived yet but will come sometime in the future. And of course it goes without saying all other non-Christians would also reject the New Covenant theology.

But anyway I will just explain a little what this New Covenant theology is all about and what sets it apart from covenant theology.

New covenant theology sees the Mosaic Law as a whole and sees it all fulfilled in by Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ (so far in agreement with covenant theology). However, because new covenant theology sees the Mosaic Law as a whole, it also sees the moral aspect of the Mosaic Law as fulfilled in Our Lord Christ and no longer applying to Christians. Instead of being under the moral aspect of the Mosaic Law as summarized in the Ten Commandments, we (Christians)are under the law of Our Lord Christ.

    We Read in Scripture:

21 When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law,[a] I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. 1 Corinthian 9:21 NLT

The law of Our Lord Christ would be those prescriptions that He specifically stated in the Gospels (e.g., the Sermon on the Mount). In other words, the entire Mosaic economy has been set aside in new covenant theology; it no longer applies in any way to Christians. So, while covenant theology sees a continuity between the Old and New Testaments in regards to God’s people and the way of salvation, new covenant theology draws a rather sharp line of distinction between the Old and New Testaments when it comes to the difference between the old Mosaic covenant and the new covenant mediated by Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. The old covenant is obsolete (including the moral aspect of the Mosaic Law) and replaced by the new covenant with the law of Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ to govern its morality.

So giff once again it's ludicrous for you to say that, "New covenant" theology has been rejected by the vast majority of Christianity.

So would you like to retract your falsehood statement here?

What is this bizarre avoidance tactic .. bringing up some post from years ago .. having nothing to do with the topic under discussion .. on a completely different topic.

Here is what we were discussing to refresh your memory.

Well let's be totally clear here. Below are a few things that I've already expressed in a previous post of mine but I will repeat it again here (post #443 of this thread).

Ancient Israel fully understood that there was only one true God, but they often did not live as if they believed that to be true, continually falling into idolatry and the worship of foreign gods. And so yes indeed we can say some of the Israelites were polytheistic and yes indeed it's no secret at all being that the Holy Bible does mention this falling into idolatry and worshipping of foreign gods.

The vast majority of Old Testament Scriptures which speak of gods are speaking of false gods, those who claim to be gods but are not. False gods is another way of saying gods that don't exist but some of these Israelites falsely believed of their existence so yes we can say some of these ancient Israelites were polytheistic in their beliefs.

Ok now it appears you're making things up or perhaps you're getting this from some outside source apart from the Holy Bible. For there is no where written in Scripture to back up these statements of yours.

We know that Abraham came from Ur but the Holy Bible doesn't explicitly say he was born there, nor does the Holy Bible mention Abraham's father and Abraham himself as being believers in Sumerian gods.

Although we know much about Abraham’s life, we know little about his birth and early life. When we first meet Abraham in reading Scripture, he is already 75 years old.

    We Read in Scripture:

4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Genesis 12:4 NLT

Note: Abraham was known as Abram before the Lord changed his name to Abraham.

The most obvious thing in the world is God, it just astounds me the intellect necessary to deny that.. that intellect would be much better used to study and try to understand the Creator of the Universes. Good afternoon Brother Mitt.. keep up the good fight (a phrase from the Bible.. BTW. )
