An interesting question. I live in a country where Theravada Buddhism is in every fabric of society. Thailand is much the same.

I consider myself non-religious but I attend most of the Buddhist festivals and celebrations. For me, this is one of the best ways to be involved in the culture. I find Buddhist festivals colourful, vibrant and a heap of fun. At the end of my street there is a small wat and monks walk past each morning for daily alms giving. Some mornings I also give alms. Some days I walk to the wat, find a shady tree and just chill out. It's a nice quite place to relax.

me too!! i have found that the teachings of achaan cha and buddhadassa make one hell of a lot of sense to me. i enjoy the folk Buddhism as well however. i like to go down to the wat and chat with the monks every so often and i like to go to the wat on Buddha days. im near ubon in NE Thailand for 4 months every year. where are you?

What I do know...is thank God we live by Central and South America---Christian nations. Or we would be in some real trouble. As it is...its US that creates more trouble with our arrogant attitude towards God, then the Christian illegal immigrants that come this way.

Rape? Is that how you see your country....a rapist? A typical attitude of one who doesn't appreciate what he/she has.

What part of my post led you to believe that I see nothing remarkable about the freedoms of our country?

Well, until you do provide such statistics, we will just have to assume that your claim is invalid.

No. But a person who doesn't walk with God would be fooled into thinking so.

According to your earlier post....the only difference to you between China and Russia and United States....is where the countries lie geographically. Nothing else came to mind. Nothing notable.

Most people in Isan are actually ethnic Lao, and Isan Thai is a Lao dialect.

The entire Isan region of Thai was once part of Laos. In 1907, the French gave all the territory south of the Nam Kong to Thailand because they feared Siamese invasion.
