In the information age, disinformation is king. We all wanted to leave Afghanistan. Was the correct plan to leave an UNARMED Afghan military behind so that nothing would fall into the hands of the Taliban?

Oh! No admission of being flatly incorrect, aye?
40mm full-auto grenade launchers on top of armored Humvees are not "small arms".
Mortars and artillery are not "small arms".

That’s what happens when you have a president that runs as soon as his intel tells him the taliban are positioned to fight.

They would not have been in May.

They were told in July that they were well positioned to take over the country. Not sure about may because the intelligence was in July. The same month Biden announced the pull out date.

One things for sure, Trump would have had the capital fortified as soon as the Taliban started moving. Biden did nothing. That’s a fact he will have to face at the voting booth. 5 days it what it took them. They encountered little resistance and we had a president that allowed it. Not one reaction. Probably took him those five days just to crawl out of bed

    You've invented facts.

Look at the Mraps we keep getting shown. The turrets are all empty. They've obviously been sitting there parked for quite some time. Flat tires, old systems. They are made to withstand ieds. Is that how we're going to deal with them of we have to face them again? We're going to hide small bombs in the dirt? Or do you think a few ac-130's can handle them easy enough from 10k feet?

So, he would have spent 3 years talking about pull-out and preparing for it, only to do the exact opposite in the end. That figures. Why would he officially promise Taliban a seat at the table, only to oppose it when the they come to claim it?

The russkies and the Chinese be very happy to take them off Taliban's hands and perhaps to reverse engineer some of our stuff.

He wouldn’t have allowed 10k+ Americans fend for themselves. I’m sure of it.

if he had the intel that Biden had in July he wouldn’t have taken it lightly even if it was after the pull out. Trump loved to use the military. Ask Syria after they gassed their citizens

Yeah, I was thinking that. But was certain it wasn't obvious to everyone. Best to clarify the point. The majority of the stuff currently being claimed as top secret weaponry was a bunch of refuse we left on purpose. The stuff that is tactically useful to the Taliban had to be left there to be used by Afghan forces. The complaints here are for optics, and to argue a point that has nothing to do with how effective the Taliban would be if the withdrawal had been completed competently.

the part about the candidate is your opinion. He did defeat the best your Democrat party had in 2016. But then again, the dead did not turn out like they did in 2020

As for the ownership of your democrat votes, you need to take ownership for it. Inflation, border crisis, crime in Democrat cities.

    Democrat votes have consequences

You think they need to reverse engineer 20 year old equipment? Much of it is stuff they made to begin with.

If they are interested in the engineering, they're far more interested in the servers of the companies that make them.

An isolationist who loves the use of military :D All righty then :D Feel free to speculate what he would, or would not have done.

I still wonder why those US Citizens stayed in the country with full knowledge of US pull-out. They had over a year to leave, so why would they stay? Who are they? Are they Afghans who were given US citizenship?

Yes, he does own this situation. Whether or not he will even run again remains to be seen. If he does, a credible candidate from either party should have no trouble beating him. IMO Trump was the only candidate he could beat in 2020.

It’s not like they’re flying our drones or Blackhawks. Probably will sell stuff though which gives them the money to carry out more terrorism.

Guns, ammo and small arms is the bigger concern.

What’s most disturbing is we can just leave all that **** there and shrug like it’s nothing.

And to those that claim we never should have gone in the first place and it’s all Bush’s fault…imagine how powerful they could have become if we just sat back and took it, simple saying “please oh please don’t destroy any other US landmarks!!!” We had to respond because every attack would be an invitation for another and another and another.

No, they are citizens, but I think my question is a fair one. Do you know the answer? Why do you think they didn't leave knowing US departure has been public knowledge for over a year?

IMO, they might need to send SEAL teams or some other teams into the city, like the French and Brits are doing.

What are you gonna do? Disarm the Afghans before leaving? Well, if we had known they were just going to quit, then we could have done that, but they were supposed to use that gear to fight the Taliban. We armed ARVN in Vietnam too before we left, and all that ended up in North Vietnamese hands too.

Going in was the right thing, but after we killed OBL, we should have fed his body to the dogs, and get out. That was 10 yrs ago.

What's your plan? Would you have disarmed the army we left behind before leaving?

Compared to the actual cost of the last 20 years of war, which you surely voted for, this cost is nothing:

"American service members killed in Afghanistan through April: 2,448.

    U.S. contractors: 3,846.

Afghan national military and police: 66,000.

Other allied service members, including from other NATO member states: 1,144.

    Afghan civilians: 47,245.

Taliban and other opposition fighters: 51,191.

    Aid workers: 444.

    Journalists: 72
    ."

    Plus 2 trillion dollars.

    https://apnews.com/article/middle-east-business-afghanistan-43d8f53b35e80ec18c130cd683e1a38f

Would you have been happy to have this go on for another 20 years? $2 trillion more spent?
