I am small business in a machine heavy industry. To defend myself against State and National chains, I have to stay on top of investing in new machines. My annual investment budges is X and if the machines get 25 or up to 50% ore expensive, within 6 month, than what.
If that price increase would be just for a year, oh well, no big deal. It is not, those are the new prices, even with the tariffs gone. Only id the market for the producers brakes in, outside competition or a recession or what ever.
But outside competition, the current, no extra tariffs, European companies.
Its a nice little crash course how large companies take any chance, some are monopolies in my field, to make a serious profit.
Trump with his tariffs kicked the door wide open for it, out of its hinges.

Explain to me why this only happened to the US.
Why do European countries still have such a strong industrial base.
Why is their GDP not as much based on consumption and service as the US GDP is.

They maintain trade surpluses with the US. Our consumers are the world's cash cow, finding the right price point to access our consumer markets is Trump's current project.

Tariffs on farm produce are twice as high in the EU. The trade-weighted average is 7.8%, and that over twice as high as the US figure of 3.8%.

If you want to sell agricultural goods into Switzerland there's an average tariff of nearly 30%.

The EU also has strong non-tariff barriers (NTBs).

They include product standards, health and safety regulations, and labeling requirements. In many service industries there are licensing requirements and restrictions on who is eligible for authorization.

Although suppliers may have to comply with such rules in their home market, if they want to sell into a country where the rules are different there is likely to be additional cost.

Not quiet. For the US, the war devastated countries of Europe and Asia were the market, 50, 60, 70, 80. What the US did not get, once those countries had rebuilt, they were not markets any more.
It happened with Japan and Germany. They turned the table, the US became the market. Same happened with China and other Asian Nations.
The US sat on its rich lard ass.
We are the Greatest Nation the World has ever seen.
Now the same thing is happening again, Google, Facebook, Amazon and so on are yesterday GM, Ford and Chrysler. Can they hold on ?

GE is in serious trouble, GM is now a national brand, Chrysler owned by Fiat, Ford may be next.
Besides Teslar, were is the next step in US companies mobility systems ? None on the horizon. None in the automobile sector, none in the rail sector and the air sector, well, screwed up big time

To which unfair and illegal trade practices are you referring? Trade has no law guaranty fair a legal trade, except for those passed by an international organization to which both the US and China belong - called the WTO (World Trade Organization).

    Meaning this:
Both the US and China signed onto the WTO and any grief between two nations is to be settled there.

So, Donald Dork should NOT BUY GREENLAND! He should buy the WTO and set his own Trade Policies!

What the Dork did was to increase import taxes unilaterally, which contravenes WTO-rules.

And import tariffs are not the real beef with China. Which is described here:

The brouhaha with China over tariffs is NOT the real problem with that country. The above describes the Really True Problem ...

    Currency manipulation.

Hence Trump designating them as currency manipulators-like communist nations tend to do.

Tarifs are not currency manipulations. They are import duties ....

Tariffs are supposed to cause inflation but in fact these tariffs have caused deflation.

Nobody is "manipulating-money"! It's all about who trades what to whom and what duties apply.

Donald Dork imposed increase trade taxes that are, in fact, illegal. The US should have gone to the WTO for a generalized solution to the problem that would have required China to either reduce exports or tax-them prior to resale abroad.

The Chinese are already showing Uncle Sam that he does not want Chinese products, they will go elsewhere. Uncle Sam is their largest customer but not the only one. In fact, China exports more to Japan, Hong Kong and Korea than it does to the US. See here.

So, do explain why China should give the US any preferential treatment as regards export duties. It could do the same for US exports to China. And China is very well placed to simply develop its own products and replace Uncle Sam's trade ...

The fact of the matter of "illegal immigrants" I suggest is this:
-The US has ALWAYS had this problem. So what has it done with it in the past?
-Let's not forget that Obama did ask his services to attend to illegals, and THEY WERE DEPORTED during his administration!
-So, let's continue in that direction. That is, deport illegal "migrants" (not "immigrants" which means they have achieved US nationality!!!!):
*Let's also create a State Dept. office responsible for collecting all US demands for migrants based upon justification, time necessary, etc.
*Those demands can be posted on Embassy web-sites around the world. The companies posting jobs can respond to those who Demand to be considered - but abroad.
*Those migrants who have no qualifications whatsoever and therefore "try to make it in "HAVE NOT IPSO-FACTO THE RIGHT TO DEMAND NATURALIZATION".
*Which is the same rule according to international conventions around the world ...

We have actually a Great Problem in Europe with illegal migrants from the heart of Africa. These people have left their countries because of economic reasons. Europe has accepted closet to 250K migrants from the Middle-east due to the wars there. Some have been given nationality by various EU countries. (Notably Germany.)

The African migrants have been, up till now, accepted because they come across the Mediterranean Sea in life-rafts. But the fact of the matter is that there are not enough jobs for African-nationals in the EU that has high unemployment-rates. And most certainly does not need migrants with no work qualifications whatsoever, except perhaps farming.

So, they are offered housing and meals, but that's all. Europe is waiting for them to go back, and in numerous instances "will assist them to do so". Any contravention of the law and they are put on the first-flight back to their home-country. (Or jail if they insist in not designating their home country.)
