So, you are willing to give up everything you own to save a life? Then go for it! There are plenty of lives out there in Africa, Asia and South America that need that sort of saving - but in living a Western lifestyle you are living it at THEIR expense and life

After a child is born from the womb, it still does not have an independant existence.

Yes it does. It becomes physically independent from other humans, but it is still socially dependent.

Excuse me, I think you will find that a fetus is a human being.

Most people who support abortion, say it is not yet a person, but it is most definitely a human being.

It is not physically independant either. Tell me what is your definition of physical independence?. It phsically depends on others as well as socially.

When an entity is dependent upon one person and one person only to provide for its needs, it is said to be physically dependent. An entity may have physical needs that can be provided by anyone, any number of people, and it is then said to be socially dependent.

A person can be physically dependant on more than one person. Someone who has been in a serious accident or is born with major brain damage may be physically dependant on others. They physically are not able to do certain things for themselves, therefore they are physically dependant. Just because they are no longer relying on one particular person, does not mean they are physically independant. It means they can get physical help from others as well. A child in the womb is not physically independant and a new born baby is not physically independant, after it is born however the baby can get help from more than the source of the mother.

If anyone in society can care for a person, that person is SOCIALLY dependent. Physical dependence is the depending upon ONLY ONE PHYSICAL person for life sustaining care. A fetus is physically dependent, a newborn is socially dependent. It's really not that difficult.

Well it is for me. Either you are physically dependant or you are not. Obviously a baby is physically depenadant, which means therefore it is not physically independant. Socially dependant means relies on the help of others a baby is also socially dependant. A man who has the physical ability to do tasks is physically independant, however they may not be able to interact with people in the normal way, like many savants, they sometimes are socially dependant. I wuld class a baby as both physically and socially dependant.

Physically dependent means needing to be attached to a person in order to use their organs to sustain life.

By your logic, there is no sense in ever outlawing anything since it doesn't really stop things. And the number of rapes that results in pregnancy is miniscule. It doesn't diminish the severity of the situation, but you guys like to throw it out there like it happens all the time in an attempt to emotionally manipulate people into submiting to your stance. It's a dishonest debate tactic.

Physically dependant means exactly what it says. A baby is not physically dependant. A week old baby cannot physically get up and open a door and walk through it not matter how many people are there giving instruction and advising the baby on how to do it. Someone who is socially dependant requires instruction guidance and help from others, a baby requires this, but it also requires physical aid. Some people like savants may need instruction and guidance in certain tasks but they are physically able to do them. Physically dependant means exactly that physically dependant, physically independant means exactly that physically independant.

Things that harm society, like murder for example, do have deterrents which do help reduce the risk of murders happening. Things like abortion however, which does not harm society at all, the numbers have been proven time and time again to not change at all regardless of legality.

So in other words rape victims just don't count in your opinion? What happens to them and how these laws horribly affect them does not matter to you? I don't find it dishonest at all to point out how these laws affect women who had no choice in the matter and how they affect women who wanted to keep their pregnancies but will have a stillborn or fatal birth defect instead.

A baby is socially dependent. A socially dependent individual requires the care and/or assistance of society, meaning anyone in society can provide that care. A physically dependent entity requires attachment to that ONE physical person to provide for its sustenance.

No, that's right. A baby is not physically dependent on a person.

    No, you are confused.

You are speaking of being dependent on other people for social needs.

Some people are physically dependent on machines, because their organs don't work properly for whatever reason. They need to be attached to those machines, or they will die.

They are not physically attached to the people who care for them, so they are not physically dependent on them. The carers are not physically impacted in any way.

I am not wrong you are changing the definition to suit yourself. Either someone is physically independant or they are not, a baby cannot physically feed itself, or do other tasks we take for granted. Is it more physically independant than before it was in the womb yes. The baby can breath for itself, the baby's organs are working of their own accord, but the baby is still not physically independant.

I was just on a site, were they carried out a study on over 55 year olds who have a bone disease (sorry cant recall the name of the disease) anyway the study was to see how PHYSICALLY INDEPENDANT they were, and how PHYSICALLY DEPENDANT they were. How they felt about having to physically rely on others etc. I can assure you these over 55s were not attached to anyone.

I doubt it. I expect it was to see how much they needed the help of social services.

In that case, they were physically independent.

But a baby physically nourishes its own body. One just needs to supply food, much in the way one has to supply food to the infirm.

    You've just contradicted yourself.

I suggest you read this site http://gerontologist.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2012/05/26/geront.gns071.short?rss=1
It quite clearly shows ther is a critera for elderly to be considered physically dependent or independent.

    heres another site http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15852656

These sites I found through only a quick search. Please tell me why you believe a baby not considered to be physically dependent.

It doesn't need to be physically attached to another person. It uses its own organs to sustain its own life.

Forcing ones religious beliefs on others is nothing to be proud of.

This is not the way of Jesus and certainly not the way of a civilized country.

The child is still not physically independant as you had stated earlier.
So the criteria has changed once again the child no longer needs to be physically independant the child needs to be able to use their own organs. So tell me why is this a criteria that if you cannot use your own organs then it should be that you can be legally executed if someone else decides?.
That's right the child can use their own organs, as 7 year old can feed themselves and read they are more independant than they were when they were 2 months old. A sixteen year old will be more indepemdant than a 7 year old, etc.

A child is dependant on others for sometime at each stage there is different requirments. I do not believe because people decide they do not want to take responsiblity at a certain stage regardless of how ealry it is they should be permitted to kill an innocent life.
