It is an act of aggression. Syria is a United Nations member state and the US has attacked it. War is illegal. Only a UNSC Chapter 7 Resolution can legally precipitate violence against another state.
The US has lost all moral authority.

Considering Trump ordered the strikes personally, it's going to be very interesting to see how their relationship will be affected. However, it is also important to note that a spokesman for Putin said Russia's support for Assad is not unconditional(source).

Well- to be a United Nations member state you have to be- ...... accepted and voted in by the countries of the United Nations.

Well- a run of US elections have been a joke- not at all funny, but ' jokes '; nonetheless. Russia got the blame for the last one.

Wait- the ' hanging chads ' was quite comical. Up until POW Saddam was handed over to be hung.

Then there was the black dude usurping the harridan at the last moment- that was quite funny- and then the orange dude usurped her again ! Even ol' Bill had to grin at that one.

Sure - the UN needs reform. The General Assembly requires more power and the Security Council has to be answerable to it. States vetoing censure for their own crimes is a nonsense.

Well the Muscovites sent another ship to the Medit sea, no word if it's being towed, and Syrian and muscovite air force in Syria on high alert. I didn't know Syria had an air force left, usually Russia does all the dirty work?

One can only hope the USA will soon be the same, maybe then it will quit creating and promoting wars and unrest all overthe planet...The USA should look at it's cesspool of a country they have.

I don't think Putin is going to change any of his plans, he will continue to support Assad. He is suspending cooperation and sent a warship... probably the dictators equivalent of stomping your foot.

On the other hand if Assad does not stop the use of chemical weapons it's going to be a whole different ballgame and I can actually see Putin and Trump engaging in a war, their egos won't allow for another solution.

As long as anyone has a veto, the UN is useless and toothless.

To be honest, I see a situation with regards to Russia + Syria becoming nearly the equal of the relationship China has regarding N. Korea.... At least as it relates to restraining a client-state of sorts.

    Or defending them.

Is the frigate Russia sent like a sweet carrot?. If for any reason it is sunk then its all out war is it not?

Although its one of their latest frigates its not shall we say hugely powerful (alone) against current coalition forces in the area.

Its like Putin is testing the waters. Sending the frigate would show Syria it is reacting to the so called "aggression".

The relationship Syria has with Russian alone would not justify such a defence by Russia. There must be other ressons. Oil? Pipelines? Dislike of Usa presence in the middle east?

Russia has a legitimate warm-water port at Tarsus. Russian ships frequent it.

Even earlier before 2000 , you can find Robert Koplan lecture on YouTube. Assad clan has failed back then to bring Syria in 20c.

I didn't know that. Perhaps he's hedging his bets in case Erdogan becomes uncooperative.

Yes, this was the sort of situation people saw producing problems with Trump - another possibility a similar situation with North Korea.
