    Good reason to support the 2nd Amendment.

    If the thugs could not be certain someone was "gun free"
    it might give them pause - - and if such thugs occasionally
    got shot by their would be victim, wouldn't that be a crime stopper.

    If we didn't have Racist Minorities that hate and attack White people, simply because they are White, there wouldn't be any issue at all being out the entire evening enjoying the town. I've heard and read TOO! many stories to trust a group of minorities who are out roaming the town looking for White people too attack. Reverse those roles where a group of White youths are going around attacking Minorities and the Whole damn Main stream Media will go Bonkers with their outrage. Sick and tired of this Double Standard, where skin color dictates whether or not it's news worthy and whether or not society should be outraged.

    We were not at risk. You know nothing about us (i.e. our age, where we live, etc). You are assuming we were at risk, but yet you have no evidence to back up that claim. Happy Thanksgiving. Perhaps dinner with your family will lighten your mood.

    What is the risk? From who? Is downtown Manhattan not safe? This is a high dollar area, so what's to fear? And they were out celebrating a birthday, that explains why they were out.

    You seem to be wanting to put the blame on the victim, why? Now just imagine if she wasn't white and instead being a person who sits up higher on the pyramid of victimhood, the left would be screaming and blaming Trump. You know it, I know it, this entire board knows it.

    The left's reaction to this story is the exact opposite of their reaction to the Smollett story.

    The news is full of people who are robbed and beaten at all hours and in all locations in New York City. A person's age or gender doesn't matter. The place is crawling with roving bands of predators eager to abuse victims. Sometimes the cops catch the perps and sometimes they don't. That is life in America.

    I'll agree with Margot in that there are places in this country where it's dangerous to be outside whether it's 3am or 3pm. We all know the cities, we all know who runs them, and we all know the likely demographics of the people who make those cities dangerous. But this wasn't in one of the NYC's outer boroughs, it was in the middle of Manhattan which is high dollar living for the elite and tourists alike. That the bar was open tells us they fully expect customers at 3am because NYC is a place known for its night life.

    Midtown Manhattan South has a population of 28,000 full time residents and swelling to 700,000 through the day with workers, day trippers and tourists.

    Assaults to date in '19: 174
    Rapes to date in '19: 16

    By comparison I'll post Burlington VT crime numbers for 2018. Burlington's population 42,000

    Murders in '18: two (2)
    Assaults in '18: 113
    Rapes in '18: 46

    I'm thinking one is equally safe in Midtown Manhattan as one would be in pastoral Burlington VT.
