For what it’s worth, here’s a tip for mainstream media aficionados. Write a few hundred words without the use of links resembling a new thread post on your topic. It could be about the sky high stock market in 2008 that would never end, the ice caps melting in 2015, or a deadly Covid plague sweeping the planet last year, or currently, Ukraine winning against Russia. Don’t post it, but leave it for 24 hours and then go back and re-read what you’ve written.

What you’ll almost certainly re-read is why so many main stream media followers don’t write anything themselves, but use links to someone else’s opinion. It’s because in the cold light of day what you wrote very likely reads like gibberish and that’s because you got it from people who write main stream propaganda gibberish for a living.

News obtained solely from the western media isn’t meant to be factual, it’s invariably propaganda and the more bizarre the better. The Antarctic polar caps didn’t melt in 2015, vaccines didn’t save us from a deadly plague that turned out to be flu and someone firing a missile at the Russian forces in Ukraine doesn’t mean Ukraine is winning the war. Likewise, the Russian’s didn’t elect Trump, the US electorate did and the Arabs weren’t cheering for missile attacks which devastated whole cities, left hundreds of thousands dead and the occupation of their countries. Nor is China a national security threat or trying to take over the world. What they’re doing is called capitalism, you know, the same capitalism the west urged them to take up which they did and have now become very good at.

Here lurk former intelligence officers and military experts on US missile systems, complete with images and ‘Hoo-Rar, yeah, yippee …’ comments, who six months ago probably couldn’t even find Ukraine on a map!

With obvious exceptions, sorry to say all this is mainly an American thing along the lines of ‘I read it on … here’s the link.’ No thinking required, it’s all been done for you and neatly packaged in a rinse and repeat format.

Hark, do I hear the gnashing of teeth? :) It is what it is. For those who believe angels walk the streets of America, men can get pregnant and Trump is a Nazi, the main stream media will make perfect sense.

Lol...this transparent little rant sounds more like reality vs disinformation farm diarrhea.
Nobody's buying your Russia First agenda here, friend.

The topic was not about Russia, it was about western mass media beliefs and touched on many instances.

And of course the answer is to pay attention to whichever alternative media outlets whose biases tickle your g-spot, because only mainstream media are in it for the money while the alternative media are the true believers, the true guardians of freedom and liberty.

I've heard this bit a thousand and more times. It's too bad the answer to the biased mainstream media is ALWAYS some biased alternative media.

Look at the video below, it’s only three minutes long

These will include future professionals, maybe even politicians, or even a future president? They are not going to follow the people who sent man to the moon, or the entrepreneurs who built gigantic manufacturing plants, nor are they are not going to win future Nobel Peace Prizes. They are the believers and consequence of mass media gibberish in which familiarity of Jersey Shore and Brad Pitt outweighs even the basic knowledge of the world around them.

This is just one of many videos like it. When many tell me I’m a Russian bot, or have a Russian agenda, or I don’t know what I’m talking about, this particular video always springs to mind. :)

You have to trust somebody and I trust AP and Reuters. They've both been around a long time and are trusted internationally by sources people have to rely on.

    LOL - "Russia First agenda"?

No, he's one of your "progressive" fellow travelers, Joe:

It's the usual shallow, pseudo-intellectual drivel we've come to expect from his anti-American Marxist clap-trap. The only thing that's unusual here is the absence of a Chris "Karl Marx Was Right" Hedges video, which is quite surprising actually.

Take it from a communications professional, Alex: when it comes to media you don't have to trust anybody, and you shouldn't. You should always take the due diligence to double and triple check the information that's provided to you.

PS. Reuters destroyed its credibility years ago, and age does not make a media outlet trustworthy and credible. The New York Times is a notorious example of this. Not only did it participate in one of the greatest frauds in the 20th Century - Walter Duranty's denial of the genocide Stalin committed in Ukraine - it remains nothing more than the Leftwing propaganda bullhorn it has always been.

Psst! I hear there’s a special offer on. Covid vaccinations now two for the price of one as they’re doing a stock clearance. Isn’t that something? I didn’t believe the one about strawberry yoghurt being a new clean form of energy though. I put 15 tubs of it in my fuel tank and now thanks to the mainstream media my car doesn’t work. :)

Trust your own knowledge, not the opinions of others. Those who don’t have any are the ones who are forced to rely on the opinions of others.

Propaganda rears it's ugly head in many ways and forms especially on the net. Active measure attacks on democracy sanctioned by a foreign influence. Chaos is a ladder...

It needs to be exposed for what it is.

    Thats against current event rules.
For political opinions, people do that..it's just for entertainment purposes though, so it requires a talent that most don't have to keep the reader engaged.

(Gulp), maybe you’re right. Perhaps the Russians do elect US Presidents.

This might end up a popular op, as those that try to evade the topic tell us that Putin made their dog bark (it’s a fact) and the US withdrew from Afghanistan because the military wasn’t transgender quota diverse enough. :)

People are catching on to how much divisive drivel like the OP topic originate in disinformation farms who blanket the internet and social media with their propaganda posing as fact. Weak minded people are easily swayed by their tactics.

More likely, this thread and OP assertions have now been reduced (by said OP) to flame bait and derailing. Truth can be refreshing. Last thread bump BTW.

My own knowledge of what? I don't have actual personal primary source knowledge of even a very small part of the news of the world. Neither do you nor does most anyone else. I doubt even Biden or Putin has a lot of their "own" knowledge.

Your personal knowledge, your world view. Everyone has it, but what comes out depends where you got it from. If it was from the mass media what you believe will echo what you think and say.

I’m what we call in the UK ‘Old Skool.’ I believe that if someone uses a link it should be to illustrate or enlarge on a point already made, not as a substitute for a lack of knowledge provided by someone else and presented as fact. I believe that if someone holds a strongly held opinion about anything, if they can’t write a quick 400 word post in their own words about it, they really shouldn’t be telling someone else they’re wrong.

Has anyone noticed that the ones who blindly follow the mass media are the ones shouting Bots, disinformation farms, Putin’s puppet’s, Russian agenda’s … the loudest?

When we write something, we start with a proposition and give our facts, finishing with a conclusion. The mass media does the opposite. It begins and ends with a conclusion because it’s an editorial opinion and often there are no facts to present.

The recent Covid vaccination hysteria is a perfect example of this chorus of noise. How many recently echoed the mass media and shouted, “unless you get vaccinated you’re going to kill people, you’re stupid and there are bodies everywhere …” Even though vaccines didn’t prevent the vaccinated from catching it, or passing the virus on which sort of negates the point of having the vaccine in the first place.

As soon as I read anything on American mass media, my guard goes up. I know there’s a high likelihood of gibberish content and clickbait trying to sell me something. Don’t take it so personally, it’s just that outside the US we’re taught to think for ourselves, although admittedly with Generation Z, that’s dying out now. :)

Nope, MSM must be very factual because the producers earn money through it. If they talk or write BS repeatedly, the consequence can be catastrophic for them.

The opposite (I call them the madman's media) are projects run by political activists. Making money is not their primary goal. All they care about is hammering a certain opinion into the minds of their (dumb) consumers.

    Do you see the difference?

Yes, I know. So given that point.....why should one (like them) trust their knowledge. Also, it isn't just the young that are that oblivious. It also isn't the uneducated (as proven by you video). These are the same people that "do their own research" so they don't wear masks or get vaccinated. They are also the same people that think Democrats are trafficking in child slavery and sacrifice. They don't get that info in the MSM.

This sentence right here proves you wrong
The vaccine was made against the first strain. You don't hear about anyone getting or passing on that variant. The vaccines still work against the other variants but not as well as against the one it was made for (this really isn't hard to understand) so when people who are vaccinated get the virus they fare better than those who don't ESPECIALLY if they are immune compromised and come in contact with those who are immune compromised.
You have shown yourself to be one who "follows your knowledge" and is ignorant of obvious facts.
