Republicans are defining lunacy down

That title is the title of Michael Gerson's opinion column in yesterday's Washington Post. (Link below.)

Here is the final paragraph of that piece:

Day by day, Republicans are lowering their standards of sanity to defend an administration seized by conspiracy thinking. If they do not stand up to this trend, they will be defining lunacy down.

The Republicans ARE NOT standing up to the trend...and ARE defining lunacy down.

The question is: Why?

What do the supporters of this nonsense actually get out of this?

I think what the Republicans are doing is disgusting; damaging to the Republic and to all the people living in it. But I may be missing something.

Can anyone suggest what it might be? (This should be fun!)

The Republican Party is showing their true colors. It's about them and no one else. Trumpcare is pathetic! Wonder how the older uneducated that gave him votes feel now about losing coverage? They voted for the biggest liar and con of all time. He's a joke!!!!!!!!

The TDS is strong in this one Luke. Indeed, left wing lunacy has been on display since they lost the election. Now even bad things get good reviews in the left wing press like riots. Talk about defining lunacy down.

One thing is certain, whatever the left is doing, they continue to try and blame it on the right.

 

What you are missing are two things.

Humility and compassion.

You can't understand what working class white people see and you are very proud of that inability. You just want them to die already. Or so many of your ilk have assured me.

 

Simple, they get the destruction of government out of this. That's what the GOP has always dreamed of. They do not want to govern, just to destroy, to implement their dream of the individualist society, in which everyone is in it just for themselves.

 

I don't think it was republicans shouting, screaming, protesting, and ....Oh yeah, wearing pu$$y hats. LOL

 

First some concessions, yes the Republican Party is currently bowing to Trump, yes it is undercutting their credibility and yes they need to hold Trump's feet to the fire more.

That being said, the Democrats aren't exactly raising the bar themselves, their claims that Trump is a sexual predator are not based in fact, their claims that Russia and Trump coordinated in the election are not based in fact, and their claim that Trump is banning Muslims is not based in fact.

In this political climate both parties continue to lower the bar constantly, this is not something specific to the Republican Party

The Democrats need to stop racing to the bottom.

Neither side in US politics is acting with integrity at the moment, and that is dangerous as has been seen by Trump's victory. Someone has to take the higher ground.

 

So you disagree with the standard liberal position that Trump is a fascist who wishes to implement totalitarian control, I surmise.

So, was the Angry Tweety Bird

1) Lying in an attempt to distract attention from inquiries into his operatives' collusion with Russian agents?

2) Exhibiting delusional paranoia indicative of a dysfunctional narcissistic personality?

3) Telling the truth.

Spice Boy attempted to clean up after the noxious effusions of his master. Yet again, he didn't really mean what he said and "wasn't using the term wiretapping literally." (Literal: following words very closely and exactly, true to fact; not exaggerated; actual or factual.)

So, that eliminates #3, yet would it kill the purveyor of the falsehood and malignant aspersion to apologize?

Donald Trump claims he is a sexual predator!

For the most part, the claims are not that Russia and Trump coordinated...but that Russia attempted to influence the election...and some Trump supporters MAY HAVE colluded. And for Trump supporters have indicated that he wants to ban Muslims.

Perhaps not...but right now...the Republican Party is making it a cottage industry.

The entire mainstream TV news media (save for Fox, a mild defending lamb of the truth, but no hero) and most of the major press are for all intents and purposes a conspiracy. They conspire to destroy conservative thought and ideals in this nation. They conspire to hide the truth about the crimes, lies and misdemeanors of those on the left, especially officials in high places. They conspire to denigrate Christian leaders and to rather mock Christian beliefs. They cover for Islamic evils, they cover for corrupt agencies like the IRS, the state dept and so on. They heap enormous amounts of time on anyting that makes Trump look bad and spend inordinate amounts of coverage on some of Donald’s faux pas. It is extremely obvious and shameful how they operate. Basically speaking, the mainstream media is secular humanist driven and personal power driven and very much working against the common good.

For all intents and purposes they are a conspiracy and they habitually lie by being so dishonest in their reporting and covering up other truths. Now if you do not want to call that a “conspiracy” go ahead with a worthless argument of semantics.

See, this is what happens when man's ego takes over and God becomes a nuisance to him.

I had also entertained the possibility of his having told the literal truth until his Spice Boy admitted that was not the case.

Rather than pre-judging him, I await a congressional scrupulous inquiry into the matter to ascertain the truth of such a serious accusation.
