What would be honorable about it? Sounds like a stupid idea to me. Trump was elected, in part, due to his promise to get rid of the liberal SCOTUS. The honorable thing would be to keep his promise.
There can no longer be any rational doubt about it -- Ruth Bader Ginsburg SHOULD retire! She should have retired long ago, but the Constitution says any Supreme Court Justice can remain until death.... So, I voted 'no'. Moreover, if Trump even were to publicly suggest that she retire, there would surely be a gigantic shitstorm of bug-eyed indignation and raving by Democrats that Trump was trying to use unconstitutional force to push a political agenda... and, frankly, there would be a hell of a lot more justification for charges like that than anything that's surfaced out of this "Ukraine" thing against Trump so far.
Seeing that republicans have argued that no nomination should occur during an election year and basically stole a seat to do it... it would be consistent showing that they hold the system to a standard. Shoving through one — ignoring precedent they set less than 3 years ago — would show them as the partisan hacks they are (and anyone cheering them on would be in the same boat). If they do this I look forward to Democrats stacking the court when they regain power. No one can seem to think past their team having all the power, it will shift eventually.

Study Up on the "resignation" of Justice William Douglas. He was encouraged to resign by members of the court. Douglas was succeeded by (R) John Paul Stevens No doubt he would have preferred to hang on and hope he made it to a likely following Justice be from the Democratic Party. Let the Supreme Court manage "it" or, Constitutionally impeach and remove from office as possible. Moi HIStory HERstory. Don't Let Wusify Any Further!

I've been thinking similarly that she should heal up, retire, and enjoy her family. And yes, I agree that Trump should wait because Obama was made to postpone. Seems fair. Then again, if she heals way up and feels like working, then more power to her. I wish no ill will on anyone.

I vote NO. Roberts should ax for her resignation if she can't do her job, and if she doesn't quit he should publicly plead for her impeachment.

I will be the first to agree with you! In my own personal, subjective view, NOBODY should be a judge, a legislator, a senator, or a president after that person is seventy years old! Oh -- I'm a retired 'senior-citizen', moonie -- does my opinion surprise you...? Again, in my own opinion, a person is best suited to function in high-level, high-RESPONSIBILITY positions in government when between the ages of about 45 to a maximum of 65. But, obviously, my opinion doesn't matter to anybody....
I am a senior also and I know that when you are ready to be put out to pasture it is not good to try and stick around where you use to be...I did try to. Yet that is not the case with some people. My Dad was literally thrown out of the army because he thought he had a home for life. But in the same instance there is no Constitutional addendum on the issue so it's a moot point.
I have no idea why anyone in their 70's would even want to hold high office but I'm not sure age disqualifies them. RBG's mind may be as sharp as ever when she isn't in pain.

Why would Trump suggest anything to her at all? Let alone offer anything in return? I guess she's a big girl who can make her own decision about when to retire. This sounds kind of condescending to me.
What is compassion? I'd say it's letting RBG live out her life as she so chooses, and letting Trump pick the next SC pick as he so chooses.
