Would you settle for 6.5% to 2.09%, because that's the rate of return on SS.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...turn-on-social-security-idUSBRE89H0YG20121018

Since we do not know what will happen on the policy front, I focused on the SSA’s numbers assuming no change in current law. They found that every age group received a positive return. Among current workers and retirees, the rates of annual return varied by about two percentage points - from a high of 6.52 percent (for single-earning couples born in 1920) to 4.52 percent (for their counterparts born in 1985). So if you wonder whether you will “come out ahead” on Social Security, here are some key differentiating factors to keep in mind:

Er, you are familiar with the fact that the social insurance trust is short by a couple trillion bucks?
Remember when the right was going apeshit over the debt and deficit and all that enormous "unfunded liabilities" number?

Sorry, when you said "comments right after the election" I thought that you were referring to 2016. I guess you were referring to HIS election as the candidate.

Up until what decade have you studied the history of racism in America and Florida?

How would socialism be good for Florida?

Absolutely nothing, but I wanted to see if you were one of these intellectually dishonest leftists who deny the disproportional black crime rate. It seems that you are not, which is great!

That's a weird question. I'm not sure what you're asking. Who studies history linearly? It's not as if I'm working my way through the ages one decade at a time. I might read a book on the Seminole Wars one day and watch a documentary on 2 live crew the next.
How should I know? What does that have to do with anything?
No I'm not. Are you one of those drive by righties who only ever mentions black crimes rates to try and score political points without ever actually intending or wanting to have an actual conversation on the causes and remedies of that high crime rate?

Hey man, were you banned for a few days? I swear I saw "banned" under your name.

The history of racism during slavery and even the 60's, 70's and 80's would obviously be significant, but I was wondering how far that went, hence why I asked "up until what decade have you studied the history of racism in America and Florida." Just because you "know the history of racism in America and Florida" because you've "studied it and lived it", how does that give you insight into the situation now in 2018?

    Is Andrew NOT a socialist?

Not at all. I'm always happy to have these conversations. And I know some of these causes, an example being the absence of black fathers, many of whom are absent because they're in prison, leading to a higher chance that their son will go the same way; have a kid, then end up in prison leaving the mother and kid alone. What a horrible viscous circle that one is.

    Yea temporary ban.
How does having knowledge and understanding of racism past and present give me insight in 2018? Why don't you think about that one for a second. If education and experience doesn't give one insight what do you imagine does?
You obviously haven't bothered to check before you assumed so. No he's not a socialist.
All of whom are in prison. Blacks fathers who aren't in prison are just as involved in their children's lives.

PAST: Obviously the past is not the year 2018, so how is it relevant?

PRESENT: Obviously the present IS the year 2018, but what are you seeing in the present that makes
you think such things such as racism being the motivation for Rick Scott stopping ex-cons from getting the right to vote.

Is there anything about his policies that is socialist?

    100% of them?

You don't know how the past shapes the present?
Well historically blacks have had to fight to get and keep their right to vote but recently as 2017 the supreme court ruled that Republicans in North Carloina pushed voter ID laws that systematically targeted minorities. Now North Carloina isnt the only state to have Republican voter ID laws overturned but the language in that ruling is telling. The removal of felony voting rights came after the civil war when many attempts were made to disenfranchise blacks especially in Florida. The Tampa Bay Times gives a pretty good rundown on the history past to present.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tampabay.com/news/perspective/floridas-felon-vote-destroying-lives-and-wasting-taxpayer-dollars/2307853?template=amp

Why don't you take a look yourself and then make an informed opinion like everyone else?

A higher percentage of them than whites according to the cdc.

With regards to racism? Only in the way that knowing the horrors of the past drives us to never to return to it again in the future. Is that what you mean?

Okay, but what are you SEEING in the present that makes you think Republicans in North Carolina introduced voter ID laws because they wanted to systematically target minorities? What reason did they give? To protect against voter fraud right? What's wrong with that?

Again, what are you SEEING in the present that makes you think that the motivation for Rick Scott stopping ex-cons from getting the right to vote was racism?

I'm asking you if you view any of his policies as socialist. I can't make an informed opinion about your opinion.

So you honestly believe that having to have a ID card to vote is racist? Do you feel the driving laws in this country are racist or the purchase of alcohol is racist as well? I'm truly racking my brain trying to figure out how a voter ID is racist towards black people. There are plenty of white felons so that's complete BS, it's only racist against all those who have committed major crimes against society oh and guess what that includes white collar felonies. I can't stand people that only see color in everything and those cuts both ways.

That's one of the ways. Another way that history has formed the situation we see today is that after reconstruction the southern population went right back to abusing blacks and celebrating the confederacy and its legacy of hate so much so that we can see it continued in the suppression of blacks votes all through the beginning of the 20th century as the link shows.
I already told you what I'm seeing. You're free to disagree but I'm really getting tired of repeating myself. You can give Republicans the benefit of the doubt if you want and pretend that despite the fact that whenever they tried to pass voting laws in the past its purpose was to prevent blacks from voting, but this time, this time they mean well. Sure. Thankfully the polls show the majority of south Floridians don't believe this.
I'm seeing dog whistle politics, racist robo calls, and now we find a racist donor of Desantis, surprise surprise and DeSantis isnt giving the money back.

No I don't. Its telling that you rather form an opinion on my opinion than give one of the candidate himself after you mistakenly identify him as a socialists.

You didn't, you just referred to the North Carolina voter ID laws. With regard to Florida, you provided a list of what you're seeing in your last post. Can I assume that your list would be much the same for North Carolina? "Dog whistle politics and racist robo calls?"

Obviously when the disenfranchisement laws only applied to black ex-cons, it was blatantly obvious what was going on. However, why do you think it is SILL a race thing now that the laws apply to ALL ex-cons?

Any other "dog whistle politics" in Florida recently, other than DeSantis? And what the hell do robo-calls have to do with the government? I'm asking you what you're seeing to make you think that the government is racist, not certain sections of the population.

What makes you think that I want to form an opinion on your opinion? I just wanted to know what your understanding is. Can't you see that it is important to be aware of what someone's understanding is on something when discussing it with them? Anyway, do none of his policies require the redistribution of tax payer money to fund them?

The link I provided from the Tampa Bay Times does go into the history of voter suppression in florida.

The law never only applied to black ex cons the designers of the law new it would largely affect blacks because they were arrested for any and everything in the Jim crow south.

Our it's just an segment of the population that's racist now, not the government. Isnt our government not comprised of people from the population? Do robots run our government? Lizard people? Also love how you didnt adress a DeSantis supporter caught having used the N word to describe Obama and DeSantis refusing to return his money. Guess he doesnt mind money from racists but that means nothing....

Is that your definition is socialism? Then every government program is socialist as well as every government dept. Name one thing from the police to the military that isnt.

Yeah and I read it, but I just don't see how that history tells us anything about 2018. It seems that you think that because of the history, there will forever be the level of racism that you are seeing now and it will never get better.

Its just that I read this from the article:

"All voters" seemed to imply that it was once only blacks. If not, then before it was "all voters" what was the situation?

Well of course they knew that it would largely affect blacks, because they knew the percentage of black who were cons and ex-cons, but how does this mean that they introduced the laws specifically to target them? Is such a policy as disenfranchisement so strange that the only motivation can be racism? You don't think that it is at least understandable why a government might want to disenfranchise ex-cons? I mean you don't have to agree to it to understand why a government might want to do it.

Sure it is, but are you actually linking robo-calls to the government? And you didn't answer this:

Any other "dog whistle politics" in Florida recently, other than DeSantis?

No, but you seem to think that robots assist the government in Florida with robo-calling!

Clearly a racist comment, no question about that. Although, I would need more evidence that he is a racist, as in he has a fundamentally racist worldview. After all, that is what makes someone a racist isn't it?

Yeah, because the campaign spent the money. Why should the campaign be negatively affected by it? Can't you at least give DeSantis credit for agreeing to not take future donations from the guy?

No, this is restricted to the REDISTRIBUTION of wealth, as in it goes to provide services for individuals. And sure, in this respect, socialism exists to a small degree in the US, but Andrew's policies are RADICALLY socialist given the degree in which he wants to fund social programs. Are you not aware of this?

That's a non sequitur. Of course things have gotten better and they will continue to get better. The polling seems to think Gillum might be the states first black governor. We have come a long way as a nation. That being said when I see policies with ties to a racist past spring up over and over again and they all seem to be from one side and they all seem to negatively effect black people then I'm not going to ignore what is right in front of my face. That doesn't mean I think everything the Republicans do is racist. When they cut taxes on the wealthy that's not racism, that's just straight up classism.
The situation before is that they were slaves. They didn't have the right to vote before the civil war. When the article mentions that after post civil war is when they started denying all felons voting rights it's because the plan was to criminalize blacks and that's exactly what they did. Of course this wasn't just to disenfranchise them. The 13th amendment abolished slavery......for everyone except prisoners.
There were no black ex cons before the civil war. At least it wouldn't matter if there were because they're situation would be indistinguishable from non ex convict blacks. You can pretend to not know why these laws were passed but history is pretty clear.
You take all the time sussing it out as you want. Florida seems to have made up its mind.
Nope. That's like asking for credit for not punching babies. Setting kind of a low bar aren't ya?
Every government action is a redistribution of wealth. We have a progressive tax system. The rich pay a higher percentage than anyone(in theory) and the poor really don't pay much because they can't afford to. They pay sales tax sure and maybe payroll taxes but that hardly covers their share of the government pie. Not to mention social security, Medicare, Medicaid. Is DeSantis in favor of a fair tax? Is going to cut all of Florida's social safety net programs? If not then isn't he also a socialist by your definition?

GIllum wants the word "illegal" rejected when describing immigrants. Seriously? He wants to impeach Trump. He wants to raise taxes in FL especially on business, to WASTE our money on freebies, while supporting open-ish borders. Free Medicare for all. Abolish ICE, even though he obviously can't do it. The mere thought is crazy. Complete psycho. He would single handedly destroy the state. Our low-ish taxes is what is great here. Crank them up and good bye.

Yeah OK. Once he tries to explain how he'll pay for it all during the debates, he's finished, since he can't explain a word of it. But weirder crap has happened. Sense will hopefully prevail. Have fun trying to make friends with the business community once you tell them they get to eat higher taxes in a state known for low taxes.

I don't see this as progress, at all.

I think it will be progress, when we don't categorize people. It's absurd (and racist) that we keep score of: accomplishment by skin color. Why should you or I care that a particular candidate has a specific skin tone? Is it at all relevant to the qualifications or aptitude for governance?

"When the article mentions that after post civil war is when they started denying all felons voting rights it's because the plan was to criminalize blacks and that's exactly what they did."

The idea that there is some plot to "criminalize" skin color belongs in the Conspiracy Theory forum.

What do you mean by "criminalize blacks?"

Okay, so the disenfranchisement laws only applied initially to whites?

What, the people of Florida participated in a survey which asked if that DeSantis donor is a racist?

The campaign spent the money. Why should the campaign be negatively affected by the guy's racist comment?

What do you mean "their share of the government pie?"

Social security, Medicare, Medicaid are all obvious, recognised programs and aren't considered to be socialist in the full definition. So no, DeSantis is not a socialist if he keeps them. And are you under the impression that Andrew won't be radically escalating these programs?

One, to be clear I'm not saying electing Gillum would be a sign of progress, I'm saying that a black man has a good chance of winning is a pretty clear indicator that we've come a mighty long way from the days of slavery. I was simply using the juxtaposition from slave to potential governor as an example for how far we've come from there to here.

Two, as for categorizing people and "keeping score", while it is often used as a weapon of the bigoted and close minded to promote their imagined superiority over others it actually does serve an important purpose. Blacks are far more represented in violent crimes than their percentage of the population. Now I'm not a racist so I know being black in and of itself doesn't make you more violent but it still doesn't change that fact so it's caused by something. And if our goal is to lower crime as it should be, the only way to do that would be to figure out the causes of this aberration and work on alleviating it. But we can't do that if we pretend as if these differences don't exist.

Three the criminalization of blacks is not a conspiracy theory its a fact. I'm not simply talking drug dealers and gangbangers. Our civil rights leaders were criminals. The very act of fighting for civil rights was criminalized. Everything from sitting at lunch counters or on the wrong part of the bus or using the wrong water fountain. Before that even fighting for your freedom was criminalized. Running away as a slave was a crime and if you managed to escape to freedom not returning you to your owner was a crime. And before you scream and whine about legislating the past understand that these things are all connected throughout history. The idea of the inferiority of blacks was used to justify their enslavement. When the slavers lost that battle it became blacks and whites are incompatible and that blacks should stick to their own kind. And now it's blacks are all thugs and incapable of acting properly. But these ideas didn't grow in a vacuum. Just as blacks aren't more prone to violence because of their skin neither are whites more prone to racism because of theirs. So why throughout history have we seen overwhelming racism from one side to the other? Well to understand that we must go back to the beginning and recognize that the enslavement of blacks was big business. It made people a lot of money and that money didn't just shrug their shoulders after slavery, pack up shop and go home. The provision in the 13th amendment that allowed slavery to exist so long as it was punishment for a crime allowed those businessmen to use the laws to arrest blacks and put them right back to work. The criminalizing of blacks began right there and the propaganda they used to push that narrative made victims of not just blacks but the white people who have been told this over and over again for over a hundred years so businessmen can profit off of blacks bodies. Right now the Untied States incarcerates more of it's citizens than anyone, those someones are overwhelmingly black and brown and increasingly our prisons are being privatized, the services inside those prisons from phone calls to toothbrushes are being monetized all while they are being subsidized by the government. Not only that but increasingly American products are being made more and more by prisoners. Nevermind jobs being shipped over seas. There have been plenty that have been moved behind bars where their workers can be paid a pittance. It's slavery all over again.
