That is sort of a surprising turn of events considering that the leader of the Magyars appears to be fascist wannabe.

Orban was one of the first to denounce Russia's invasion as a war crime, “Hungary’s position is clear: we stand by Ukraine, we stand by Ukraine’s territorial integrity". and sovereignty,”

“Why it matters: As the Western world seeks to make Putin an international pariah, even his ***closest allies are resisting*** showing support for his assault on Ukraine.

Driving the news: Czech President Milos Zeman and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, both historically strong pro-Russian voices in the European Union, condemned the affront as ***"an unprovoked act of aggression,"*** AP reports."Russia has committed a ***crime against peace***,” Zeman said.

    • Zeman, who earlier this week insisted that Russia wouldn't attack Ukraine, changed course and has ***called for harsh sanctions*** against Russia, including pulling out of the SWIFT financial system.
    • Orban, who has pursued a diplomatic and economic strategy with Putin called "Eastern Opening," condemned "Russia's military action."
    • “Hungary’s position is clear: ***we stand by Ukraine***, we stand by Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” said Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijijarto, per AP.”

I recall that Orban did not approve of weapons transiting Hungarian territory and he did not want meaningful sanctions against Russia. Hungary had Russia developing a major nuclear power plant therefore I can understand his reluctance to take a stand and really help Ukraine. He may have mouthed the words .stand by Ukraine but words are meaningless if not backed up by actions.
His halt on weapons transfers included not allowing a plan to transit Mets to Ukraine. Since other countries such as US where also scared of a wider war” h having Jets transiting through Hungary to Ukraine.
I am open minded and willing to listen but I see no evidence that Hungary supported Ukraine with military weapons. Show me !

Hungarians and Czechs have learned to fear Russia and not to count on the West to save them. Do they know that Germany hasn't negotiated a new "non-Aggression Pact with Russia?

Aid to Ukraine from the US/NATO/EU has been consistently too little too late. The nations that have had to endure Russian imperialism must wonder why Ukraine has not received the warplanes they need to snap the trap on Putin's invasion forces and finish this war, and why none of our thousands heavy tanks are still parked in storage units.

Poland requests German approval to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

(CNN) — Poland has formally asked for approval from Germany to transfer some of its German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, its defense minister said Tuesday, raising the pressure on Berlin to respond to Kyiv’s pleas and send its own shipment of vehicles into the battlefield. “

Germany is caught up in its own underwear in a political struggle with itself where Sholtz is apparently trying to do everything he can to delay or sabotage a tank transfer directly from German supplies. Let’s see how long he will try to delay or sabotage the export approval of German tanks from other countries.
I have severe doubts that this reluctance to have Ukraine get the tanks they need is Germans fighting their evil ghosts of WWII.

    Ukraine Conflict Updates
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, January 23, 2023

Click here to read the full report.
    Key Takeaways

    • Ukrainian intelligence assessed that Russian forces are preparing for an offensive effort in the spring or early summer of 2023, partially confirming ISW’s standing assessment that Russian troops may undertake a decisive action in the coming months.
    • The Wagner Group’s outsized reliance on recruitment from penal colonies appears to be having increasing ramifications on Wagner’s combat capability.
    • Russia continues to deepen military and economic relations with Iran in an effort to engage in mutually beneficial sanctions evasion.
    • Russian forces continued limited counterattacks to regain lost positions along the Svatove-Kreminna line.
    • Ukrainian forces struck Russian concentration areas in occupied Luhansk Oblast.
    • Russian forces continued ground attacks around Bakhmut and on the western outskirts of Donetsk City.
    • Russian forces likely conducted a failed offensive operation in Zaporizhia Oblast in the last 72 hours.
    • Russian forces have not made any confirmed territorial gains in Zaporizhia Oblast despite one Russian occupation official’s continued claims. The occupation official may be pushing a narrative of Russian tactical successes in Zaporizhia Oblast to generate positive narratives to distract Russians from the lack of promised progress in Bakhmut.
    • The Kremlin’s efforts to professionalize the Russian Armed Forces are continuing to generate criticism among supporters of new Russian parallel military structures.
    • Russian officials and occupation authorities continue efforts to integrate occupied territories into Russian social, administrative, and political systems and crack down on partisan dissent in occupied areas. . . .
Ukrainian forces conducted HIMARS strikes on Russian concentration areas in Luhansk Oblast on January 22 and 23. The LNR People’s Militia claimed that Ukrainian troops struck Kadiivka (50km west of Luhansk City at the nexus of the T0504 and T1317 highways) on January 22.[20] Ukrainian Odesa Oblast military administration spokesperson Serhiy Bratchuk noted that one strike targeted a machine-repair plant that Chechen forces were using as a hospital.[21] LNR sources additionally claimed that Ukrainian forces conducted a HIMARS strike on an electrical substation between Zolote and Pervomaiske (about 50km northwest of Luhansk City on January 23.[22] . . . .

Russian and Ukrainian reconnaissance elements are likely skirmishing on the islands of the Dnipro River Delta south of Kherson City. Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command reported that Ukrainian forces destroyed a commandeered civilian boat carrying a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group that attempted to deploy to the Potemkin Islands on January 23.[46] A Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces defeated Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups that attempted to capture Belohrudove and Velyky Potemkin islands on January 21.[47] . . .

Prigozhin has been trying to establish himself and his Wagner group as an alternative to the Russian MOD and armed forces. Lots of moving parts in that competition.

Corruption/war profiteering, is inevitable. I have not seen any convincing evidence that the level of corruption in Ukraine is exceptional.

"The war (WWI) cost your Uncle Sam $52 billion. $39 billion was expended in the actual war period. This expenditure yielded $16 billion in profits."

Your post demonstrating that Zelensky is fighting corruption is good news that should accelerate the flow of money and arms to the Ukrainian military.

I doubt that Smedley Butler's numbers are accurate, there was probably far more corruption associated with WW I, but his point was valid -- and irrelevant.
My point was that the argument that aid to Ukraine should be curtailed because of corruption is just frivolous shameful partisan noise.

This from the comment section from your source is spot on:

"The Russians would never have defeated the Germans during WW2 if the US had not provided them with massive amounts of equipment including tanks, trucks, planes, jeeps etc. Thousands of them. They of all people should know what American equipment is capable of.

We sent them 400,000 jeeps and trucks, 12,000 armored vehicles, 7,000 tanks, 11,400 planes to fight the Germans.

You would think they would come to their senses. They are being defeated by American and allied equipment just as they used it to defeat the Germans." Robert
