No it doesn't. It's speculation that the generals in charge of nuclear weapons would see it as a direct attack on the sovereignty on Russia that it would necessitate a nuclear response. I don't see many generals risking their livelihood so that Putin can have Ukraine.

Nope, the US would be come a waste land like every nation on this world.
Nuclear winter will last at least two years, no harvest. Check out what Krakatau did in the middle ages, without the nuclear fall out.
Every river, every lake, every field will be contaminated, world wide, mind you. You drink, you eat, you will die of radiation sickness.
You fish you hunt, your harvest will be contaminates because they ate and drank contaminated, water and food. They will die, too.
    The livestock, same story.
Everybody would be fooked for a rather long time, humans, plants and animals.
We know that, they know that.

It would be kiss your sorry arse good by time. Buy the best get drunk and put a bullet through your head

It takes multiple people to initiate a nuclear response in Russia. Initiating a NFZ in Ukraine isn't an invasion of Russia, so the two aren't exactly comparable.

Russia has invaded multiple non-NATO countries, and none resulted in nuclear strikes.

Not with 1,500 warheads for both sides. ;)
The effect of a nuclear explosion rapidly decreases with distance, and fallout occurs mostly with ground or underground blasts. Most of Russian warheads are about 750kt, which to a majority of the US suburban population is not much of a threat. In the U.S. a very large share of population lives in suburbs, not inner cities, which would be targeted by the enemy. So, even if all 1,500 nuclear warheads exploded over the cities, I would speculate that most of the population would survive. Now, that assumes that the enemy would just go on to a genocidal quest, but in reality, there would be an attempt to minimize the response, so one can safely assume that the primary targets for largest nukes would be the nuclear sites of opponents, which would reduce the share spent on civilian cities.
I also read some more realistic scenarios where two nuclear states fight each other conventionally and use nuclear weapons sporadically, with significant period of time in between. The fighting sides could even come up with the temporary rules in the use of the nukes.
There is an indirect evidence that even the U.S. government does not believe MAD is real - there are plans and military exercises that involve post-nuclear war scenarios.
Nuclear war will kill off a much bigger share of Russians because, unlike Americans who live in suburbs, they congregate in densely populated cities in high rise buildings, putting a heck of a lot more people closer to the targets of those nukes.
Having said that - I sincerely do not wish us to go through a nuclear war, because it definitely would kill a lot of people. I’m just saying that a nuclear war, with the current amount of nuclear warheads available, would not result in complete destruction of the United States.

Putin has probably boxed himself in with nowhere else to go. The Russian forces have found harder to defeat the Ukrainian defense. Even though many Ukrainian neighborhoods and villages and other places have been demolished by the Russian forces, The Ukrainian spirit is still strong and alive and kicking more than ever. Ukraine will keep fighting and fighting hard so they can save their democracy and move forward.

There are NO "winners" in that scenario. This planet could become uninhabitable in just minutes

Does not speak well of the Human race and it's decision making.........or priorities.

of course not. Nuclear weapons will not be used in Ukraine. But Putin does not rule out the use of strategic weapons if NATO or anyone else decides to fight Russia, taking advantage of the situation in Ukraine. For example, use aviation from Poland.

The Pentagon has already nixed the idea of handling the Polish planes. Nobody wants that tar baby! LOL

Update(20:45ET): Some sharp words and a swift rejection from the Pentagon Tuesday evening: "The prospect of fighter jets 'at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America' departing from a U.S./NATO base in Germany to fly into airspace that is contested with Russia over Ukraine raises serious concerns for the entire NATO alliance," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said of the Polish announcement which caught the Biden administration by surprise.

Kirby described the Pentagon perspective on Poland's earlier in the day declaration that it would send all its Russian-produced MiG-29 jets to Ramstein Air Base in Germany for the United States to be able to transfer them to Ukraine further as follows:

    • "It is simply not clear to us that there is a substantive rationale for it," he added, stressing that the proposal "shows just some of the complexities this issue presents."
    • "We will continue to consult with Poland and our other NATO allies about this issue and the difficult logistical challenges it presents, but we do not believe Poland's proposal is a tenable one.

I have no idea why we aren't doing air strikes at the very least. China is watching all of this and looking at Taiwan.

China is seeing the Ukrainians massively outperform Russia's conscript army and most of the world come together to send Russia to economic hell.

China has a much more powerful military than Russia does, and Taiwan is much smaller than Ukraine is and would be much easier to dominate.

Taiwan will still raise hell for them and be no more willing to accept Chinese domination.

I'm sure they will but due to Taiwan's size they can be subdued very quickly.

So Russia is self destructive ......but want to take the rest of the world with it

That is sheer insanity............The inhumanity of such an attitude is appalling.

Taiwan does have a better military defense in place than Ukraine had, though. They could even strike China with missiles, along with China's warships. China would also have to rely on amphibious assualts to get troops onto the island, which certainly lends Taiwan a certain advantage in defending.

Foreigners who volunteer to fight for Ukraine will be eligible for citizenship

    From CNN's Josh Pennington

Ukraine's Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Yenin said Tuesday that foreign nationals who volunteer to fight for Ukraine will be eligible for Ukrainian citizenship, according to the Ukrainian National News Agency, Ukrinform.

"Ukraine is forming an International Legion of Territorial Defense composed of foreigners who want to join the resistance against the Russian aggressors and defend global security," Ukrinform reported, citing Yenin.

Yenin reportedly said the number of foreign volunteers is growing.

"These people will sign a contract, receive a military passport, which then replaces their residence permit. In the future, if any among these foreign nationals would like to become Ukrainian citizens, our legislation provides a pathway for that," he said, according to Ukrinform.

Some context: Last Thursday, Ukraine's President said the first of 16,000 foreign fighters were making their way to the country to join the fight against Russia. CNN has not been able to confirm those numbers. Ukrainian embassies have been helping recruit foreign fighters, some without any military training.

Also, here's a news report about Americans joining the fight in Ukraine:

there will be no winners. Smoke from fires of 1% of forests in Russia reached Canada and the USA. One can imagine what will happen to the atmosphere when 80% of the forests in Russia and the Americas are on fire. This is not to mention the fires in all major cities - which are a priority target.

I agree, being an island carries a lot of benefits. I think Chinese would suffer from lack of combat experience, something that we observe with russians now.
