They say it might have to do with some kind of a union with Belarus and that Russia will be putting bases there.

I thought that maybe it had to do with holding referendums in Donetsk and Lugansk to join Russia, but that would be very unfair to the Russians in the other parts of the Donbas. Leaving them under the fascist government in Kiev is not something Vladimir Putin would want to do.

There's also the facilities that were supplying Crimea with water. Ukraine had cut the supplies and they're suffering a drought, so the Russians might want to take them over. Maybe Russia will free Mariopol as well. I read that Turkey sent terrorists from Syria there, and they might start killing the people. During the war a few years back, I had seen videos of the nationalists in tanks shooting at the people.

We'll just have to wait and see. Right now parts of the Black Sea has been closed off, and the military and naval build up is unbelievable.

Possibly Putin cut a deal with Lukashenko to put Russia troops on the Belarus/Ukraine border. Maybe Zelensky will see the light and follow though with the Minsk Agreements.

Putin doesn't care about people in Donetsk and Lugansk, or he wouldn't radicalize them with propaganda and send munitions and fighters there to get them killed in the first place. All he cares about is gobbling up Ukrainian territory.

I've been hearing about a "union" between Russia and Belarus since 1999.

Lukashenko has been grooming an heir.

God knows who Putin would choose ?!

RT is Russian state propaganda. I consider it a modern spiritual successor to Pravda, but aimed at disinforming audiences outside of Russia.

Lukashenko said a while ago that if Belarus doesn't unite with Russia, there will be a color revolution. He found out that there was going to be an assassination attempt on his life around May 9 as well as on his associates and family.

Yeah, I know, but he could speak out publicly and call on the Rada to do what they are supposed to do. Then the nazis will go berserk....which may be a good thing. But Zelensky is probably foolish enough to think he will get re-elected and won't. Another uprising in Kiev would do wonders for their economy :roflol:

I enjoy reading your posts....even though they are completely wrong and clueless...but I do enjoy your embarrassment. You are living proof that people believe all the garbage fed to you by western media. Sad.

My posts are completely correct and well-informed. I would expect a Russian troll to say otherwise, of course.

I could mention Russians who agree with me, but I wouldn't want your KGB president sending his assassins after them.

The free market only matters in this context in that its a long term advantage for innovation and, following on from that defense procurement. Militaries with access to competitive markets IMO have a greater range of procurement options more sources for solutions to potential technical problems that State based defense industries where the common practice is that Company X is the the one that produces system Y and they're our only option.

In the context of a potential invasion of Ukraine, assuming it were to happen my comment about NATO air support and and re-supply of the Ukrainian armed forces simply reflects the fact that it in the short term its probably the most immediate, effective and logical responce they can provide. This is because it would simply take too long for the US and NATO to get significant ground forces into Ukraine. And that's making the big assumption that they would want to. The idea would be to escalate Russian casualties and slow down the advance if not stall it. In and of itself air support and re-supply of high tech weapons might not stop the invasion. That would be depend on how well the the Ukrainian army performed - but it would buy the Allies time.

And with time? If NATO decides it wants to put troops on the ground (and IMO that's a big 'IF') they can. Assuming Ukrainian forces can delay any invasion long enough for that to occur.

The other problem for Russia then has to hold all the territory it captures. Ukraine is an very large chuck of real estate to hold permanently by military force. Russians regular army is what about 400,000 men? The majority of them draftees. The only other immediately available source of manpower would be your 1,000,000 or so reservists who won't be prepared to undertake permanent garrison duty for extended periods.

So win or lose the invasion would be too costly to sustain. Oh, and important point - it works the other way round too. If NATO were the ones considering an invasion of the Ukraine they would face the same dilemmas Russia would face. Neither side has the military capacity to invade and HOLD large chunks of the others territory any more. The days of massed ground forces aka WW11 are done. No-one can afford to arm and equip and field modern armies of that size indefinitely.

Definitely you can find propaganda on RT - but you can also find "The other side of the Story" - from "US Voices" - such as Ron Paul - and a whole bunch of others .. and you are not going to find this on US MSM..

Where do you go to find the other side of the story ? ----- switching back and forth between CNN and MSNBC perhaps !?

Don't remind me of May 9th... it's the hammer and sickle that constantly reminds me my beloved Tsar is only a fairy tale.

I don't care so much for stories as I do the facts, and RT is generally not the place to go for facts.
