….SEN. JONI ERNST: We have scaled back American energy production and become much more reliant upon Russian energy, Russian oil. … All I know is that we have lost 71,000 energy jobs here in the United States. We have ratcheted back on American energy production and become much more reliant upon Russian oil, as well as reentering the Iran JCPOA, the nuclear agreement, where we're allowing Russians to barter that deal, which would allow Iran to get back into the energy market. All of this is ludicrous. Sean, I don't understand this president's foreign policy.

[Oil sanctions on Russia] are not something we are currently engaging in, yet it is something that in a bipartisan manner we have been pushing on for quite a while. There are those that will disagree with that, but it is the one thing that would really ratchet down on President Putin, and that is his energy revenues. … Energy security is national security, we should be ramping it up here, and ratcheting down on President Putin and Russia, and yet this administration refuses to do that.

he Senator is right! We seriously need to undo what Biden has done since taking office and return the USA to energy independence. We need to sanction Russian energy exports and never be reliant upon them.

It’s past time to return to America first and it needs to start with domestic energy production.

The February 2022 US oil production is about 12.0 million barrels a day - which is near an all time high (about equal to 2019 production).

So I'm not seeing this great decrease in productions that the Senator is pulling from her ass. Since we use on average, 18 millions barrels per
day, and the highest production rate EVER was about 12.4 million barrels per day, we have not been "independent" for decades.

But I know Trump dudes will ignore the facts on this one - so whatever.

Even in the middle of a hostile invasion by Putin, Biden still can't resist making him rich with oil money. There is no logical reason for Biden to do this unless Putin is somehow pulling his strings.

Conservation would be the logical first step, but as too many people have chosen too many vehicles that are too heavy and refuse to take responsibility, there isn't much hope.

Biden has to make more oil available so the price comes down. What happens next is on him, and he has to know, he must know, that anything he does to prevent more oil hitting the market (in the name of global warming) will be kicked to the curb in 2024 after he's thrown out of office and a republican takes over. So all the suffering he's putting us through is for nothing.

Continued sales of oversized, over-powered vehicles is totally illogical.

I really don't know much about the oil situation in the US, but I do know a misleading stat when I see one.
Oil production has increased dramatically under the Obama years. The Trump years followed that trend with a dip at the end oil production in the US has more than doubled in 8 years.
71 thousand lost jobs when you don't specify the time frame, the field, or anything is absolutely meaningless and is by no means an indicator of how much oil we produce. If you looked at the graph it looks like a conservative wet dream: we have doubled our output in less than 12 years!!!!
Shame on Ernst for purposefully misleading the public

Not sure what your point was there, but that was a prediction, and clearly with covid impacting, production did in fact go down in 2020

Do you think illegals and those who suffer from income inequity can afford $80,000 Teslas and the electric bill that comes with them? They mostly drive inefficient older cars that they can afford. But now Biden’s policies on gas are screwing them. The older cars aren’t going away any time soon.

What policy on gas is screwing them?? Production is near all time highs, so that isn't the problem. Putin's policies are what is screwing the public right now.
But if we look back in 2019, gas was also around $3.00 per gallon, so what Trump policies caused that? Or is it just that world markets fluctuate irregardless
    of the President?

You want to end Russia's ability to make war? Go all in on Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power and watch Russia crumble quickly. Biden does not do it, because hurting Russia is not really his goal.

$3 a gallon? It’s a heck of a lot more than that now. Making us energy independent drive down prices even before covid. I have a 22 year old car kept in good enough shape to appear as a 4-5 year old well maintained automobile. I intend to get 10 more years out of it and to 200,000 to 225,000 miles by then. No way I in my financial condition that I’m trading it for an electric.

But that was not due to government policies. Had Trump been President the projected 2021 numbers would have happened and prices of oil, gas, and natural gas woukd be less than it is now

Clealy you have not been paying attention .. Biden has been putting up roadblocks to domestic production .. and policy in general has been dampening Oil Capitalism.

You realize that people are more likely to survive an accident in a relatively heavy vehicle. Mine is 3,200 pounds which gives me a decent chance.

You do all of the above. You don’t weaken or cut off one technology when the replacement one isn’t ready or is still too expensive

producing and using are 2 different things. To get people to use one, you have to either subsidize one, or penalize the other.

Which is exactly what Biden is doing
