We're talking about longstanding perceptions about race and beauty. Like I said, I don't expect you to get it and looking at it from your perspective I can see the humor. One of the things that we do on the boards, is share perspectives. So, here's an opportunity to see the cover from another perspective.

Remember the controversy that occurred when Zendaya wore braids to an awards ceremony and the insult that followed became a news story. She responded with an elegant statement about the significance of her decision.

If you'd rather not focus on the political aspects of the cover, we are talking about Vogue (a fashion magazine) and the entertainment industry, entities that are centered around style and trendsetting. For such venues this is news.

That was supposed to say that's why people wore afros in the 60's, not were across. The joy's of autocorrect ... lol.

ROFL I just don't take it so serious and see nothing political or of societal interest. As I noted I don't recall any major publication noting the first time a man with a mullette hair cut being on a cover as being an HISTORICAL EVENT.

Looks like a bio photo of a possible low round NFL draft pic.

You don't see it because you are not interested in relating to a scenario that doesn't involve you. That's why you keep bringing up the mullette, which has nothing to do with race and politics. You can relate to decisions about whether or not you should wear long hair or a mullette but you know nothing about the discussions that black grandmothers and mothers have about whether to straighten hair (including the hair of their daughters) or leave it in natural styles or how these choices affect personal and societal images.

You likely haven't noticed the resurgence of more black women in their 20's consciously embracing their natural texture and proudly wearing it, like black women did in the 60's. No, it shouldn't be touted as a historical first on the level of the first black President , but it means more than you can acknowledge, and that's alright.

I assure you I am fully involved in our society and history.

It had everything to do with redneck white guys what are you talking about..

I'm sorry what exactly is the historically prominence of Sabrina's hair style as opposed to anyone else's?

Ok I can totally see that.
Now I'm not sure what to think, we never see the same thing the same way.

Serena wasn't wearing a mullet. Redneck white guys are known for wearing cornrows, which makes the Vogue article about redneck culture? Who knew? I've explained it as patiently as I can twice. See ya.

After her "performance" at the US Open last year, she can pack sand and retire. What a crybaby and prima donna she is.

If the barriers that remain are getting cornrows on the cover of teen vogue then I think we can declare mission accomplished.

    That is the point

There should not be a problem - ever

But there has been - first black college graduate first black president first black.......

We should not even be noticing the colour of skin

Mission not accomplished but progress has been made ... There's nothing wrong with seeing skin color, just don't use physical differences as a reason to mistreat people.

My point was more so that this is a ridiculous OP, the editors of Teen Vogue are very likely wiping their asses with leaves to save the planet and would happily whip themselves to honor "marginalised" communities.

Whereas I see this as simply another Kardashian type marketing ploy in a magazine devoted to these sorts of stories
