What you're referring to has more to do with people being called and treated as racist for having views that arent racist.

If one takes a state or federal position, those rules are explicitly laid out for those employees. There is little ambiguity on their political activity limits or freedoms. Even as a DoD contractor a few years ago, one could do campaign work, but never allowed to use a uniform, badge, or even mention where one worked.

its hard to take this stuff seriously when black on white crime is about 90X higher than white on black crime.

Weird.. Who said racism doesn't exist in America? Or is this another democrat talking point?!

Regarding this deputy, he should meet the full blunt of the law.

And what if that takes power away from labor to do so? It's pretty hard to organize yourself into a union when discussing unionization is a political activity and you only talk to people on the job.

Always good to know the racists don't care about fixing racism in the US.

black on white crime is an issue too, no one said it's not, both should be taken seriously

especially if either is wearing a badge

I agree with everything you said but black on white crime is pretty much 100% ignored by the media

It's a common theme from the right that this country has moved past racism and it's only an issue because the left keeps being vocal about it. Certainly not saying all right-wingers believe that nonsense, but enough do that I see variations of this theme all across the comment sections of the internet as well as in real life.

The country has! Individuals have not..

If it was a "systemic " issue this would not even be newsworthy.

I do see the distinction you're making, and agree with you, but that distinction is only being made by you, not the folks claiming the country has moved past racism.

Starting a union is completely different from political campaigns. Almost all state and federal employees are in a union.

Right but what's the distinction between talking about union activity (which is political participation), and being a racist prick? At least according to US speech laws.

So, sounds like this particular cop is what? A Democrat? After all, isn't this the current policy trajectory for democrats these days? He did plead guilty. Perhaps karma will intervene in the jail? Hard to know these things. In any event, it sounds to me like at least one cop who put the uniform on for the wrong reasons is being taken off the streets. Good riddance. Wonder what his union rep thinks...

Right! because there is nothing to defend because its almost completely omitted from the media because it doesn't fit the narratives of evil white supremacists running a rampage through the country

A union, is a labor organization, not a political one. You are making an argument out of nothing.

Yeah sorry, I think my point is lost on you. It isn't about them getting caught, its about how it never gets to the media but then again, I think this is getting pretty far from the original post content (My fault, I started it). I'll bring this up in a more related thread if one ever shows up

Not really, or at least I don't see it that way. Why can't a labor organization be political?

Well as the term describes, it is a labor organization. Certainly these unions do back particular candidates.

That said, why are so off track from this thread, unions have nothing to do with this.

If any on the right do say that racism doesn't exist then they make up less than 1%. I think that what many on the right just say is that it is not near the problem that those on the left make it out to be. The left claims that racism is so ingrained that its systemic. That its ingrained into everything that we as a nation does.

You do realize that labor unions have one of the strongest lobby voices in our nations capital, right?

Ok, but this thread is not about unions.
