I see no point going back to the 19th century. Everyone who is of age should be able to vote, not too sure why they do though as it does no good whatsoever.
Well, it might not do any "good", but it can have an impact on policies. However the judicial supremes have rule over the land these days. That and Corporate Interest. And Big Banking. And China. And..
The only positive result in this would be the reduction in rental housing prices. Of course the cost of houses would skyrocket. This is an imaginary question though, it has no chance of ever happening in the US.
How many home owners and renters bother to vote now? If we started drawing a line between citizens and civilians, like in Heinlein's 1959 story, I'm guessing not many would change their habit. So many now already claim they have no responsibility for what our nation does and demand restitution from the folks they think should be responsible for running the country. All this would do is give those who make that claim now a more formal means of abdicating responsibility for the country they live in and a process for identifying the ones they will hold accountable when things go wrong.
*shrug* Just cause so many politicians are dumb criminals doesn't mean we should take it to the extreme of letting no one else impact politics.
This isn't exactly relevant to your comment, but we should also not allow people to use "majority rule" to make idiotic bullying policies..like forced theft in the form of car insurance, for instance.
No but you should be required to provide some kind of verifiable identification. And a test should be mandatory. Not much, just know basic facts about the way our system works, the candidates running and the ideological difference between the parties. I think people need to understand these things before voting. Progressives don't care because uninformed voters can be used to their advantage.
Third World countries have better and fairer election systems than ours. At least they allow everyone to vote but then we have never allowed that to happen.
It isn't; but I agree in principle. The hard part is coming to agreement about which policies fall into that description.
If only homeowners were allowed to vote then I doubt there would be any voters available to vote for Democrats, since there are zero homeowners who are welfare wards of the state, i.e. the democrat consituency.
la It's not line itemed but it is there none the less. Any landlord who does not allocate his expenses, including taxes, in managing his business is an incompetent businessman. Yes he is the one being billed, but he allocates his costs among those renting his properties. He has tax reasons for not itemizing those taxes on lease and billing of those renting his properties, if he were to do so, then the renter would be able to deduct them from their taxes.
