Warning airgun porn. Look at that nice steel breach and oversized bolt and the carrying case it comes in. Can't go wrong for $130

Why pistol? Get a rifle. I shot something like this when I was a kid. Great fun for target practice, and the iron diopter sights are a must. Now that you mention it, I could shoot this in my back yard, and take out the iguanas too.

I like the idea of a lightweight take down carbine with multiple possible configurations.

You had a PCP gun when you were a kid? Those must have been pretty uncommon then assuming you're at least 40 or older

No, it was not pre-charged, and I realize the one in the picture is PCP. That's why I said "something like this". It had to be operated manually for every shot. Man, are they expensive now.....I had no idea. I don't think I'll be getting one after all.

I think you probably mean the break barrel configuration. Single shot 1 stroke typically more powerful than a 10 pump.

The one I pictured above at well over $1,000 is a PCP. But there are several entry-level models at 200 or less.

But I think pcps are most interesting when they are so-called Big bore .25 caliber or greater.

No, not the break barrel, it had a side lever, which you'd pull back and it charges the air, and allows you to insert the led pellet from the side. Most kids back then had break / folding barrel.

The mechanism was like this, but the design was more like the PCP one from the other pic.

I just saw some that were over $3000.

    Don't know much about those

    Gotcha.

They have big bore air gun shooting three and 400 grain projectiles adequate to take deer out to 100 yards. All different types of caliber.

I wouldn't buy a big gun like that unless it also came with a pellet mold to cast your own projectiles. You can find all sorts of custom-made projectiles for the big bores online but you're going to pay a lot of money and a bullet mold would be a fine idea.

The Browning buckmark IV is on my list. It's a break barrel single shot pellet pistol with a relatively unremarkable velocity but most of the gun is steel and true to the Browning Buck mark, size and weight.

Growing up as a kid back in the '80s we didn't have all these options. And don't get me wrong I like to shoot real guns as much as the next guy but there's just something about air guns that takes you right back to childhood.

I hope I heal up from this broken ankle soon because all I have to do is sit home with my phone and browse the internet and I'll go broke doing this.....lol

I've been looking to get an air rifle to save money on ammo at the range. I want semi-auto, .30 or .357 cal, long(ish) range. Which means Im looking at ~$1000 plus another ~$300 for the 4500psi air compressor. Thats a long time to see returns on ammo expenditure... Tho, If I'd done it a few years ago when I fitst considered it, I might be seeing those returns now.

I wouldn't mind having one that can shoot 457 caliber round lead ball.

Primarily because I already have the cap and ball that shoots them and they weigh 135 grains and I have the bullet mold. So I can make little round lead balls until the cows come home.

Ready-made Big bore projectiles are not very cheap.

You can actually get a pump that looks like a bicycle floor pump for 100 bucks that can go up above 3,000 PSI but I imagine they would be a real chore to use

I hope this is the proper video. If this isn't the most powerful Big bore air gun in common production then it is very close to it. .457 caliber producing up to 700 ft lb of energy.

For those of you not familiar with ballistics that means that this air gun can easily take down big game like any common center fire hunting rifle.

But you better get your checkbook out because I believe it's about 1500 bucks.

@Pro_Line_FL an excellent video demonstrating the capabilities of a big bore

Ruh roh... air rifles are 'weapons of war' ...and quite old ones at that. Their utility came about in the age of muskets due to their relatively faster rate of fire and easier concealment ...ie, they were more useful in killing more people faster.

    Girardoni air rifle - Wikipedia

I wonder how much laws against 'fire'arms have played into the reemergence of such an antiquated weapon.

Probably quite a bit in the production of many airguns made in countries like Germany. They can't have real guns so they have to make the best of what they have.

And even in a lot of those other countries they still apply Nanny state laws to air guns like your air gun can't go over 6 ft lb of energy. That's a pretty weak air gun that I wouldn't really feel ethical shooting a rabbit at even 10 foot with. But that is what their overlords have ruled that they are limited to.

Many countries even erroneously classify an air gun as a firearm. Which is ridiculous because the definition is not remotely the same. But if they want it to be they just change definitions and that's the law

Interesting video a big bore 40 plus caliber cast lead projectiles in ballistics gel testing. Up to 16 inches of penetration in ballistics gel.

Well I tracked one of my airguns on Amazon last night and it said it would be delivered today as it was in fort Myers about 45 miles away. Now it says it will be delivered tomorrow because for some reason it left fort Myers and went to Georgia....wtf ??? So it was 50 mi from my house so let's ship at about 300 miles up the road and back again...

Hit him up first thing in the morning. I think the post office can be rather finicky when it comes to knives and BB guns.

I just spotted two break barrel air rifles in 30 caliber, one was $250 and the other was $300.

The pellets I looked at for them go up to 50 grains in weight. They would be more than adequate for taking medium-sized game and reasonable range such as a raccoon or a Fox... Although I have no reason or desire to kill either one of those but if I saw a coyote in the neighborhood I probably would not hesitate to pop it.

I'm thinking about it but 250 or $300 is not prohibitively expensive but it's not necessarily cheap either

Here is one of the 30 calibers. It's similar to a break barrel air gun except it uses a gas spring instead of a steel spring. This has several advantages.... Unlike a steel spring gun you can leave this **** for long periods of time and it will not damage anything. You're not supposed to do that with a steel spring gun because it will weaken the main spring eventually.

Also gas Rams have much less vibration than the traditional steel spring.

I believe it said this gun produces around 40 ft lb of energy which is nothing to sneeze at as far as air guns go. I will probably order this one day but I'm not in a hurry. Right now I'm laid up with a broken ankle and living off my savings until I get back to work so it's probably not the best time to be spending money like that.

As far as I know it is the most powerful spring piston gun made ( maybe not this exact model but I know of no spring piston guns going above 30 caliber ) it's kind of a boat anchor at 9 lb though.

I have the desire to kill iguanas since they are all over the place and eat our plants. Its legal to shoot them with air guns (which is not a firearm). My neighbor is doing a pretty good job with his air-rifle, which is a cheap one. Maybe I'll stop by Bass Pro Shops after the Air-Show today.

I like the looks of that one.

The early access door was open for business when I showed up at 6:30 this morning.

    I have it now. ;)

Have you checked out Umarex? The H.P.P. I have doesn't leak nearly as fast as some other co2 guns I've had.

Full auto 30 caliber PCP. Pretty badass for an air gun

I can tell you that a break barrel airgun-whether it uses a steel spring or a gas piston will last far longer than an airgun that uses vales (such as CO2 or pneumatic) valves are where airguns fail. I have a weirauch HW55 springer that is 50 years old and the only repair i did on it was put in a slightly heavier spring with a teflon plunger (the old school leather ones-no longer used-can dry rot). I have owned several expensive (over a 1000) single stroke Pneumatics, PCPs and Co2 rifles that have needed gunsmithing services when the valves started leaking.

I remember back when the Benjamin .22 pump was the top dog for air guns. The new ones are insanely awesome. I even seen some that shoot .50 cal projectiles. I want one that shoots a .30
