Maybe in todays day and age that would fly. But back then that would have been a punched ticket to being expelled and going to a failing public school. That was not an option. The sacrifice my mom made cleaning houses to pay for me to get the same education my sister and brother got after my dad died was too great to not recognize its importance.

I don't carry guilt. I can look back at things I should have done differently. What makes it guilt free for me is knowing I was doing my best and doing what I thought was right at the time. As wrong as that may have been. No one is perfect. But no need to feel bad about something, if you tried your best.

I think it goes a bit further, That even if you are sorry you did wrong and sorry that the world is big ball of human suffering your sorrow alone will not save you - it will "bring death". The message seems to be that you should push back against evil in yourself and the world - that the passive acceptance of evil will kill you. History proves this to be true in the real world. That fact gives 2 Corinthians 7-10 some extra credibility for Christian believers.

    I agree.
I think that pretty much goes hand in glove with Godly sorrow and leading by example. Also, not accepting something that you know is primarily wrong as a right, to go along to get along.

Yes, going along to get along is the aspect of human nature that leads to mass annihilation.

"Isolation and impotence, that is the fundamental inability to act at all,
have always been characteristic of tyrannies. Political contacts between men
are severed in tyrannical government and the human capacities for action
and power are frustrated. But not all contacts between men are broken and
not all human capacities destroyed. The whole sphere of private life with
the capacities for experience, fabrication and thought are left intact. We
know that the iron band of total terror leaves no space for such private
life and that the self-coercion of totalitarian logic destroys man's capacity
for experience and thought just as certainly as his capacity for action."
THE ORIGINS OF TOTALITARIANISM, By Hannah Arendt, Meridian Books, Cleveland, New York, 1958.

Caught me a dandy cold from all those germy rugrats I was exposed to at the ranch. Havent had a cold in years... forgot how miserable they are. Finally feeling a little better. Hot toddy might help. :alcoholic:

Crank the heat up, drink some straight whiskey, and force down some chicken and texas pete hot sauce.

    You're welcome

Chicken soup with as much hot pepper as you can stand. Rest and water. If that doesn't work, whiskey with black pepper.

Yes, you are right about it being a different age back then. My brother was expelled from a Catholic school for speaking out.

And you are also right not to feel bad about any of it.

It does raise an interesting question though. If the public schools were failing in your area today would you send your child to a Catholic school or would you go with an alternative like homeschooling?

Then there is a more interesting question. If a frog had wings, would it hit its ass when it hops. Try not to dwell on it to long tho.

Catholic school. It would go something like this.

It was good enough for mom and your aunt and uncle. We didn't turn out so bad. When you get older, if you decide to have faith or not that's on you. But you were introduced in a big way to the meaning of faith.

You're not being home schooled. Going to school with other kids will teach you social skills. You will learn how to deal with all types of people and attitudes. Hopefully one day you will put all that together and know, kindness goes a long way and if you're going to use a hammer, drive that nail in in one shot.

Now, eat your manicotti before it gets cold.

I don't know if my experience is representative, or not.

I went to Catholic school for first and second grade. After the great family upheaval, we couldn't afford it anymore. I was bored to death in public school third grade because I had already learned all that stuff in second grade Catholic school.

Yeah my Mom tried public school then Catholic School. Got kicked out in 3rd Grade. But I did get passed from 2nd to 3rd. I remember I took a bow.

I was honest with them too.

I told them there wasn't going to be any smacking me with any ruler nor anything else. For some odd reason they didn't listen. Moms had to take off work and pick me up from the Priest in the Church.

Then the next week....it was off to Military School and living on their campus. [IMG]

Knowing something is wrong, repenting and changing your ways is Godly and worldly is knowing it is a sin but accepting it for what it is.
