    I might have found my calling.

    For the last two days, I've been walking along the waterfront. The scavengers take the tops off of the city's garbage cans. They're looking for cans and bottles. They can't seem to be bothered with putting the tops back on. Then, the birds get in there and spread litter everywhere.

    I'm picking it up and putting the trashcan tops back on.

    I just grilled steaks in the middle of a wild thunderstorm. Winds were over 40 mph and power went out 7-8 times. I appreciate my covered patio.

    Blew thru here, but didnt rain a drop. Now I gotta water plants 1st thing tomorrow. :(

    They were good. The lovely Mrs. Texan wanted hers more done(burnt to a crisp), so I burnt it for her while my steak got cold. It was still good. I'll have to remember to cook hers on a hotter part of the grill in the future. A neighbor lost most of a tree. I guess I'll help him cut the rest down next week. Does anybody know if hackberry is good to burn in the fireplace. Some woods burn too hot and are fire hazards by coating your chimney with creosote. If not, we'll burn it in the fire pit on the back patio.

    We live outside the city limits and can burn trash and shoot fireworks if there is no county wide burn ban. My son is bringing my granddaughter down from Kansas to visit next week. I suspect she will have to stay indoors for the fireworks. She's 6 months old. My dogs stay inside as well. Our whole neighborhood is overwhelmed with fireworks every Independence Day. I don't even buy fireworks anymore because I get a free show anyway.

    I sure like living in the country. I can set my watch by our trash service and can put the trash on the curb an hour before they arrive to pick it up twice/week. Our neighborhood has only one entrance and nobody but residents are ever here anyway. We should put up a gate.

    Got myself in trouble again. Volunteered to repair the neighbors retaining wall. The more I look at it the more it seems like it needs to be rebuilt. And it is still hot....especially after yesterday's rain. Anyway I bought a wheelbarrow the other day and after a little work .....put my no-flat tire on it. Gonna push it over there and sit and stare at it for a while. .the wall...and decide on what I am going to do.

    The new "job" is going well.

    Every day there is trash to pick up. I feel like I'm doing something worthwhile.

    I’m working Friday, but I have my first weekend off in over a month. I just finished 28 straight days of work. The streak was only broken by a colonoscopy on Friday before working all day Saturday and off Sunday.

    From day one this bar was a place to meet people on a different level.

    Thanks again Smartie for starting the bar so many years ago and keeping it going.

    There are so many off-color statements that could be made on your Friday event... but kudos for working like that, and hoping your weekend off involves good food, good family and friends, and some serious pillow time.

    I've learned to keep a spare pair of shoes/flip flops under my desk, along with my mini-grocery store. That way my feet will be dry if it rains, and I won't starve any time soon when rain keeps me from going for lunch.

    I had my stash at the old bldg, but downsized w the move. Now I pretty much carry everything I need for that day. Bought myself a gorgeous Italian leather tote bag... but by the time I pack my coffee Yeti, bottle of water (to drink on train... hydrate) brkfst, lunch and small purse... I need a mule to haul it for me. Will be storing an umbrella in my tiny workstation though. ;)
