It's purest blasphemy to even suggest that anyone could ever match Heston at his best. That being said I do recall that Orlando Bloom was at least slightly convincing playing a similar role in Kingdom of Heaven

Another possibility is Derek Jacobi. Now put that sword away and hear me out. The Cristagon character was a good deal older than even Heston was in the original and so is Jacobi. He's a soldier just back from the Crusades and all he wants to do is establish a harem of peasant girls and run his insignificant castle. Problem is the first girl he wants to rape ambushes him and he falls in love. It's a good story and requires an actor with lots of range and Jacobi always did manage to portray Medievals and Ancients as, well, people rather than historical figures.

No one can match Heston. His other movie that is worth repeating is "55 days at Peking".

An actor's actor, no question. There must be lots of remake movies that will never be made because they will never make it better. Still, I don't regard remakes as criticism but rather homage, a good idea is a good idea at least twice. It is challenging since a comparison is never easy on anyone being compared but challenge is the stuff of artistry, or at least so I am told.

The second remake of the movie "Stagecoach" had nothing on the first one. IMO remakes are never as good as the first one, with the exception of My Fair Lady which could be close to Pygmalion not as good but close.

Maybe, but that old type of truck should be running. It has the same beauty as an A45 Warthog airplane. An elegant and sleekly functional appeal making its own unique aesthestic

I was feeding my goats yesterday and got stung. Ya see Twinkle Toes likes to be fed by hand over the fence. BAM! right on my left thumb between the cuticle and the first knuckle. It seemed to be quality venom because it hurt like hail. Then the itch proceeded all the way down the thumb to my hand. Have been using ice. Once after the sting and this morning for the itch. How was your day?

Have you ever watched the tractor auctions? Some of the tractors that people have restored are absolutely amazing.Surely
someone out there would have the expertise to restore that old truck.
We have within driving distance an AF museum that has some of the planes on display. They are awesome even though they don't fly anymore.

Some say that the 'red wasps' (they are more orange then red around here) are especially wicked this year. Very aggressive and have a sting like a baseball bat. Personal knowledge, I got stung on the cheek right below my eye a couple of years back.

A friend's daughter went out and bought me a tube of Aspercreme with Lidocane. It helped a great deal in numbing the pain and itch. I also plastered baking soda and water on it in the beginning every hour or so to hopefully neutralize the acids in the sting.

If I had to choose a sting on the thumb would be less miserable than a sting on the face. I once got stung on the lip. From not checking my soda can before drinking. It also hurt.

 

I tho't we might get some rain... and then that hurricane took a hard right and ground rapidly to a halt.
heading back to the ranchito about 9pm yesterday when a big ol' raindrop fell on the windshield right in my line of vision... I scanned to the windshield to see if more were following,, got one more raindrop of note... then watched both evaporate completely away before driving three more blocks.

I watch storm clouds circling.. see a little lightning out over the desert,, but nothing with enough strength to water us a little.. I figure with our high heat and reflective qualities (albedo ratio) we push away the rain clouds. Looks promising again to day.. bet I'll have some aural hallucinations that it raining too.

 

Supposed to start around 9, but its nearly 10:30 and the sun is shining.

yes.. a restoration.. hot rodding is ok for when basically all that is left is the sheet metal (in my opinion)
