In the US Germany rarely shows up in the news. I bet in your country the US is being discussed a lot more that we discuss Germany.
So, why make a state visit to a country that means nothing from military perspective, the country that refuses to do things that would cause real splash in the world? UK is way ahead of you from that perspective and everyone hears UKs roar. Germany? Meh, it’s a whatever country somewhere in the middle of the EU.

UK stopped Iranian tanker and defended its tanker from Iranian navy later. Sorry, I don’t see germans having guts to do something like that (in Germany of today).

 

Start projecting power in the world. Look at U.K. for an example, they are actually an excellent role model when it comes to that. UK definitely punches above its weight.

 

Trump has strained relations with most of Europe. His bullying, dissing joint agreements, and meddling in their politics does not a good friend make.

They're the natural leaders of Europe, especially now that the UK has left, and will probably get more interested in the military thing once Uncle Sam goes home.

And you don’t have to. There are countries like Norway, Luxembourg, Austria that have higher GDP per capita than Germany and they are living happily without aspirations for world domination. I bet Trump wasn’t visiting those countries often simply because they are not significant to us. They are rich, but they just bask in their own lard and don’t get involved. Just like Germany.
You want to become important? Pull your guns out and do something that will force others to talk to you. That’s what U.K. and Russia are doing and that’s why they punch above their weight.

There was never less than 75% of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front, sometimes up to 90%.

Had Hitler not invaded Russia, he, or his heirs, would be the masters of Europe today.

If he had not gratuitously declared war on the US after Pearl Harbor, it's conceivable that he just might have defeated the Russians,
with some adroit diplomacy to neutralize the British. Especially if the Nazis had not been so beastly to the people in their
conquered territories, especially Ukraine, they would have done even better than they did.
We're very lucky that FDR goaded him personally before the war began.

Defeating Germany was certainly a team effort but without America there would have been no team.
