    Space Force all the way!

Aw, this is too much. :roflol:

An email from the Trump campaign read, "President Trump wants a SPACE FORCE -- a groundbreaking endeavor for the future of America and the final frontier. As a way to celebrate President Trump's huge announcement, our campaign will be selling a new line of gear." :cheerleader:

I'm not convinced that the Air Force can't handle it, but people would be supportive of the idea if one of their cell phone satellites or GPS satellites was taken out by another country. What happens when someone puts space based weapons in an orbit over America?

    Its an entirely different realm.

The Space Force would likely incorporate many of the programs currently in the other branches.

Not sure why the left considers this a joke because we are going to have to make a branch for it eventually and frankly, whoever can get the ball up and running the fastest will have a distinct advantage.

There are tens of billions worth of infrastructure up in space that needs to be protected, especially our military satellites, and this is even more important with new technology being developed that could threaten that area.

Its no different than the Navy protecting what's in their realm.

I for one don't want to see China or Russia develop an ability to start wreaking havoc on our satellites in case of hostilities.

Basically anything the current forces do that are involved with space operations would fall under this new branch.

Its costed money every time we've added to our military forces.

Do you think the money we spent on the Air Force was worth it?

Like splitting off the Marines from the Navy
or the Air Force from the Army.

    Space Force
    If Not Now, When?

Besides, I imagine it will be more nerdy and electronic rather than "boots on the ground".

From what I gather it mostly involves procuring and protecting military satellites and whatever else we secretly have up there.

    Neither is the air force.

I'm sure this latest stunt puts Matis in a difficult position with his own people.

You can be sure that the other three branches are fighting this silly and belligerant idea with every bureaucratic weapon in thier not inconsiderable tool box!

I can't wait to see Alec Baldwin nominate Bill Shatner to be the first Secretary of the Space Force on SNL!

would these be the same branches of military that benefitted from reagans star wars that the left so lovingly mocked but now look like complete and utter idiots?
Im glad you get some information on our govt from SNL at least. But how soon before the left starts quoting alec baldwin as if Trump said it like they did with Tina Fey and Sarah Palin.

Yes, it would. If you don't understand that dynamic, you don't understand government. The bureucracies will fight this stunt (and it is a stunt), with evey tool and lobbyist they have.

And I think they're going to win.

There doesn't seem to be any sign that Congress is going to even take the matter up.

    And there it dies.

And Star Wars hasn't really worked all that well. Our anti missle defenses are not all that reliable or accurate.

But it was really really good at putting a lot of borrowed cash in the hands of the military industrial complex!

Oh, and I never quote Alec Baldwin as a substitute for Trump, or Tina Fey as a substitute for Sarah Palin.

The originals have always provided plenty of material on their own!

There is no way to do that stealthily. Any country trying to put weapons in orbit over America or any other country would be identified within days if not immediately.

    “Currently in the other branches”

Better than 95% of all space operations for the US Military are carried out by the Air Force. Maybe 4% by the Navy, and the Army and Marines split the other 1%.

Unless Trump and his supporters are saying Air Force Space Command is incapable of doing the job, then this amounts to nothing less than a massive waste of money and manpower on redundant administrative and bureaucratic infrastructure.

Lets get that Base on the Moon. Sure the UN and our adversaries will whine and cry about it. Hootie and the Blowfish said, Let her Cry.
