Decriminalizing just means they cant be detained for a set period of time before being sent back to where they came from. It makes it so you cannot make it a crime to actually come to the border to apply for the legal process of asylum

No your wrong. Criminalizing crossing the border means that if you do that, you cant apply for citizenship. That’s. Large hurdle for most “illegal” and basically forces them to stay illegal and not apply for citizenship.
