Beyond that, no mask mandates but most schools are requiring masks. Hospitals are reporting being swamped and a lack of ICU beds, though some of that is due to staffing issues. Mississippi has about a 34% vaccination rate.

95+% of the hospitalizations as unvaccinated, so, yes, the shot works pretty well.

Vaccinated people do get hospitalized and some do die.

Fortunately the rate of people getting the shot has doubles, so clearly people are coming to their senses.

I have seen numbers that were very different, every organization seems to have their own set of them.

Here it's about 89% of the hospitalizations are unvaccinated, but we only have about 34% vaccinated overall so you would expect a high amount to be unvaccinated anyway.

The guy was at a family gathering telling everyone the vaccine gave him heart issues that he did not have before the vaccine and wished that he had not gotten it. He seemed OK healthwise but you can seem fine and still have heart issues. Anyway, that is what he claimed. True or not, I have no idea.

The other person got the J&J vaccine and became paralyzed, having to go to rehab and learn how to walk all over again. I suspect Guillain-Barré but I never heard the actual diagnosis. That was several months ago and she is still not back to normal.

I'm old and have health problems that make me vulnerable so I got vaccinated at the earliest opportunity. I would probably do so again. Given that, if I were younger and not yet cursed with the problems old age brings I would not be stampeded into a decision on something so important. There is so damned much propaganda out there and the weakest is "you're gonna make ME sick." There is no question that I can carry and spread the virus just like someone who hasn't been vaxed and it seems that information was known some time before it was publicized. We need to be careful who we listen to because every bit of new information gets politically weaponized.

Yeah, I think all these numbers from different states are just snapshots. Hard to arrive at an overall truth.

I was just looking at some data from Michigan. If you remember, it was hit hard back in April/May. It's about then that we started hearing about the Delta variant. It beat back that spike, but now the numbers (cases, hospitalizations, deaths) are all on the rise again. Michigan has an overall vaccination rate near 70% with it being higher in the older age groups.

So what does it mean? Looks like, regardless of vaccination rates, the virus is getting worse, in varying degrees, just about everywhere. Israel is already giving boosters and it's being discussed here. I imagine that these vaccines are being re-configured for this new variant, but that won't be discussed just yet.

Personally, I'm 65 and have not gotten the vaccine and don't plan to. I will just do like last year and use precautions.

COVID-19 Surges Among Unvaccinated in Florida, Contrary to Baseless Claims
    SciCheck Digest
Florida health officials have reported a 60% rise in COVID-19 cases, and hospitals are reporting that 95% of COVID-19 patients are not fully vaccinated. But a Facebook post makes the baseless claims that Florida’s numbers are not going up, and that all COVID-19 patients recently admitted to a Palm Beach County hospital had been vaccinated.

Ok, fine....you didn't know. To me "common knowledge" is something that most people know, but not necessarily every single person.

Common knowledge which you can look up with minimal effort

One thing I find interesting from this is that the ratio of deaths per case appears to be MUCH lower with the second spike. Maybe it's too early to tell from this data set but it very well may be that delta is much less deadly.

What a smug response. "You" don't know a damn thing other that what has been spoon fed to you by whoever supplies you news.
If you would actually expend minimal effort you would find that the jury is still very much out on what extent a vaccinated person can harbor and spread covid.

If YOU would expend minimal effort, you would quickly learn that ALL vaccinated people can harbor and spread covid. But then again, I already told you that.

This got me wondering, what are the average death rates for normal influenza?
    Some might find this enlightening:

Do you understand what "to what extent" means? Is english not your primary language?

A fully vaccinated person can harbor and spread the virus as effectively as anyone else. What part are you confused about, or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing because you have nothing to say?

If this were true there would be exactly zero reason to get the vaccine. I wonder what makes people like you spew what you think you know as absolute truth. Do you have any training AT ALL in virology or immunology? Hell, have you even taken an entry level biology class? I doubt it. Yet here you are going on like a you have a f**king clue.

The reason to get the vaccine is to acquire immunity against getting sick. See, harboring the virus and getting sick from it are two very different things. Sorry I thought everyone knew this. Its common knowledge after all. Maybe you never took an entry level biology class.....

There you go. Fake anger and an F-Bomb is such a persuasive 'argument'.

@557 and @CenterField are both trained professionals and they've repeatedly explained why and how vaccinated people can not only get the virus but transmit it to others.

Why would a person have to be an expert virologist or immunologist to understand that?
