I was fortunate enough to be able to see the Eras tour live. I even went back to see it in theaters. Swift used to be BELOVED on the right, back when there were photoshopped images of her wearing a MAGA hat floating around (one even made it into a forum member's avatar). I like her music quite a bit, but I also just love following her career. She's a business genius.

 

This reminds me of the age old question: "what counts and what doesn't?". Who will have the greatest effect on the most lives:

Why anyone would care EITHER way who Time magazine picks as their person of the year is quite baffling to me. Especially those who are upset over it. Do these people live such shallow lives that this is the kind of stuff they get outraged about? I feel sorry for them.

 

Who has a greater effect and who would make the best president are two entirely different questions. I'm not sure whether Swift or Biden would be a better president, but Trump is a distant third compared to either of them.

I don't read time, I don't subscribe to time and I don't give a rat's ass what time does or picks. This choice was far less idiotic than some choices. I am not a fan of Taylor Swift type music (I'm more of an old acid rock and electric folk fan and when it comes to lady singers my favorites include Sandy Denny, Grace Slick, Annie Haslam, Maddy Prior and Donna Godchaux (in her Grateful Dead years) but she certainly is a very successful entertainer and appears to be a decent person on top of that.

I get the appeal. And lord knows I've had a great love for musicians who were . . . let's just say not decent people, especially when compared to Swift. Led Zepplin comes to mind. Eric Clapton. I even went through a Ted Nugent phase, and that dude wrote a song about raping a 13 year old. I can normally divorce the art from the artist. In Swift's case, I like both. She's already gone far, but she's going to go further.

My guess is that both Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce laugh themselves to the point of near-asphyxiation every day as they consider the incredibly shallow, stupidly rapt attention and fawning that is heaped on them -- a singer, and a football player. Taylor Swift got the nod simply because of her music, not what she looks like. She is beautiful, now has a boyfriend named Travis Kelce, has been a couple for a while, and is slowly getting into a serious relationship that may lead to marriage and kids. Good for her. And the reason why she got it was mostly through her music and her relationship with Travis Kelce that went internet viral for the past few months.

Their finalists are based on who made the news in Time Magazine over the year 2023. That's it. There is no other criteria, and this is mostly a popularity contest, much like a beauty pageant.

 

what I find funny is that the people that elected a game show host as president are the same people that have an issue with a skinny white girl that dates a NFL player being on the cover of a magazine

Person of the year IMO should be a random unknown person that put themselves at risk to help someone. You know, like stranger runs into a burning building to save a cat. That sort of thing. I mean person of the year seems much, why not a music related award?

 

For a great many, mostly younger people, Taylor Swift will have the greatest effect on those lives.
Many may try to imitate her.

A president means very little to some. Some can live very happy lives never giving a rats patooty about politics.
