Enjoyed the Citizen Smith reference - but it's not mob rule people are after, just a fair go in calling for democratic as opposed to authoritarian government.

You are going to revolt because you have to pay a little more for Mountain Dew? I never knew some people hated drinking water so much. My thought if you are going to drink liquid sugar poison, and then charge tax-payers with your healthcare costs, you can afford to pay a few dollars extra at the gas station.

You have good taste. I strongly respect Hedges myself but you are wrong in your belief that Hedges believes violent revolution is necessary. He does not. He believes that protest is successful when the authorities start to fear you as Roosevelt was afraid of US socialists and communists before WW2 and came out with things like the New Deal and he believes that we are on a knife edge at the moment and for the sake of the planet as well as democracy we must revolt...he categorically does not support violent protest. He puts a good spiritual edge on how people ought to be moved which I cannot really remember. Something like you do what you believe is right and you keep on doing it and doing it because you know that what you are doing is right, has to be done.

I knew he did not believe in violence so I did a search and this was the first one that came up. This is what he says

Here he is talking about the rules of revolt. He is using Tienanmen Square as an example

    https://www.truthdig.com/articles/the-rules-of-revolt/

You can read the rest at the link.

He strongly believes in non violent protest. Problem possibly is that authorities facing such revolt also know these work and Agent Saboteurs seem to be around more often than not to present an alternative picture. It is when the authorities become afraid that there is change but that does not require violence. Above and at link he is suggesting good practice.

That $1.67 was per litre amigo.. thats about $8 aus per gallon thats more than double what you guys are
paying (in North Carolina) ...we have to pay 48c per litre fuel excise plus 10% gst on the total per litre
which is a tax on a tax...but no-one seems to complain...we are pretty dumbed down atm....
for the maths sake Ive called a gallon equal to about five litres....
Your NC price converts to about 60c per litre US...we pay..sorry were paying $1.67..has come down since Xmas but typically the gas stations rip us off every time theres a long weekend, or school holidays, because they know they can...everyone needs gas to go on vacation...and the government tells us they can do nothing...its a freakin con and we all know, but we do nothing....

Too bad. Why is gas so high? Is there an oil shortage? Is it a tax of some kind?

We import about $7billion a year of oil and the government tells us the petrol price is subject to the oil parity price etc...

Central to the price of petrol in Australia is the price petrol is selling for overseas. Successive Commonwealth Governments since 1977 have adopted an import parity pricing policy to determine national pricing levels for all motor fuels. This means the domestic price for petrol in Australia is linked to international petrol prices to ensure local refiners will not sell their offshore to obtain higher prices (and potentially leave no fuel for the local market).

Under Australia's import parity policy, Singapore is used as the price benchmark for most fuel because of its proximity and because it is the largest refining centre in the region. The LPG benchmark is set in Saudi Arabia, Australia’s largest source of imported LPG. This price is used as a basis for LPG sales internationally.

The Singapore benchmark can be impacted by supply and demand issues, such as the general availability of petrol on the world market.

This is how the price is calculated, but the gas stations put their prices up and down as per the oil companies directions, daily, almost hourly to rip us off...
Its just another one of the many ripoffs us peons have to endure because the governments tell us they cant do a thing about the hourly alterations to petrol prices..all bullshit..they want to keep the prices high, so they can rake in more tax dollars.
In Australia, we have alcohol, domestic violence, mental health and drug problems ...governments rake in liquor tax and allow liquor outlets at the drop of a hat...and then attempt to bandaid the alcoholism and dv problems and ignore the drug and mental health issues.......geez Im on a roll today........

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-01-21/gilets-jaunes-are-unstoppable-now-elites-are-afraid
"Now the elites are afraid. For the first time, there is a movement which cannot be controlled through the normal political mechanisms. The gilets jaunes didn’t emerge from the trade unions or the political parties. It cannot be stopped. There is no ‘off’ button. Either the intelligentsia will be forced to properly acknowledge the existence of these people, or they will have to opt for a kind of soft totalitarianism."
As Bill Lawry would say...."its all happening"
