We haven't. A small cabal has tried to, and is now pretending to have succeeded, though I see no credible evidence that most people have actually been fooled. I have thought for some years now that anti-fossil-fuel hysteria is a deliberately dishonest stratagem to divert people's attention away from real societal problems susceptible to genuine, practical solutions, and direct it instead to a phony "crisis" whose purported "solution" is in fact a much bigger societal problem. The purpose seems to be to prevent solution of the societal problems that could actually be solved.

 

I think it's more error than stratagem, but to this point the outcome is the same.

Germany’s Minister of Finance, Olaf Scholz, signals the days of life’s amenities for the masses are coming to an end. All necessary to avert dangerous climate change. Flying will be a thing of the rich.

On April 29th, Germany’s Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe ruled that the country’s 2019 Climate Protection Act did not go far enough to limit dangerous climate change, and thus violated the fundamental rights of younger generations to a humane future.

Lawmakers moving to end comfy lifestyles

The court has ordered the German legislature to draw up clearer reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions. And now that the Federal Constitutional Court has ruled, regulation-zealous lawmakers are moving with renewed vigor to wean the masses off their comfy lifestyles of air travel, own homes, large cars and meat.

The good times are all about to come to an end for the German masses, who the government seems to believe have become too spoiled.

The most recent comes from German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz who announced he wants to impose a price floor on low-cost flights in Europe, he said in a TV program “ProSieben Spezial Live.”

No flight should be lower than 50 or 60 euros (USD 60 to 70). . . .

 

Fact checking Steven Koonin’s Fact Checkers

Steve Koonin was hired by he Obama admin because he was a contrarian, not because he agreed with the consensus. He was not some former liberal who was "swayed by the data". He always failed at understanding the data. The Obama admin was just interested in hearing all sides. So Koonin assembled his "red team" to present their case with the data -- and they faceplanted hard.

Koonin hasn't updated any of his bad arguments since then. It's till the same old list of strawmen, fallacies and falsehoods. Here are a few of the falsehoods:

1. US temps haven't risen.
2. Sea level rise isn't accelerating.
3. Greenland ice loss isn't accelerating.
4. US Wildfires aren't getting worse.
5. Hurricanes aren't getting stronger.

And here are a few of his strawmen claims.

1. More tornadoes were predicted.
2. Declining crop yields were prediced.

 

No, that is false.

Because they aren't bad.

I.e., facts that prove you wrong.

All of those are true, and Koonin presented the data that prove it.

I remember those claims being made, so they are not strawmen.

 

This is such a brazen assemblage of bare-faced falsehoods that it brings to mind Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler.

It appears that we have entered the Soviet Era of “disappearing” charts and data but now under the era of the “Biden climate science purge.”

 

There are very few people left who actually remember the 1930s, so now the climate fraudsters figure they can get away with erasing the facts.
