As we kick-off the DNC ... the primary focus is closing the enthusiasm-gap and *We are Better Off than 4 Years Ago* ...

... despite Bush & Cheney and the neocon Great Depression and despite the tea party obstruction ...

Dems Aim ~ The enthusiasm gap

    http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/04/13656880-first-thoughts-the-enthusiasm-gap?lite

The Democratic convention and trying to close the enthusiasm gap …

Tonight’s speaking lineup is a nod to important blocs of the Obama coalition … Michelle Obama’s moment (she speaks around 10:30 pm ET) … Julian Castro’s moment, too (his keynote address comes after 10:00 pm) …

Looking at the Dems’ three major objectives for the convention … Breaking down tonight’s speakers … And GOP continues its counterprogramming in Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ~ If there's a theme to tonight's speaking lineup here at the first day of the Democratic convention, it's a nod to all the important voting and demographic blocs of the Obama coalition.

Women ? ~ You have First Lady Michelle Obama, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and Lilly Ledbetter.

Latinos ? ~ Keynote speaker Julian Castro and Rep. Xavier Becerra.

African Americans ? ~ The first lady and Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx.

Why is tonight's coalition night so important for Democrats ?

Because they are facing an enthusiasm gap -- at least compared to 2008 -- with these voting blocs.

In the Aug. 2012 NBC/WSJ poll, just 52% of voters under 35 and only 49% of Latinos expressed high interest in the upcoming election, which was down about 20 points for both groups at this same point in ’08.

That said, almost all voting segments in the poll -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- aren’t as interested as they were in 2008.

So this is the opportunity that the Democratic convention represents for the Obama camp and Democrats: maybe a final chance to rekindle some of the 2008 magic.

If Mitt Romney had to close his likeability gap at last week’s GOP convention, Barack Obama and the Democrats this week have to close the enthusiasm gap.

Good luck with that...Selling 'better than before Obama' is a lot like selling 'who ya gonna believe, me or your lying eyes'..

I just do not believe the public is as stupid as the left needs them to be this time out.

I notice they are repeating some of their same lies. Notice how Quinn said disparagingly how Romney wrote off being governor on his taxes? The reason is he donated his income, not something any Dem is doing and if they did, you bet they would write it off.

Now another whiny public union worker calling himself the representative of American worker.

Arguing for more federal money for State and City funded incomes. Pathetic.

4 years ago....we were in the midst of economic collpase, and people like Paulson and Bernancke were meeting with George Bush to figure a way out of a depression.

What was so much better about that than today?

Hmm, more class warfare and vilification of certain segments of society. Check.

Calling future reduced spending a DRASTIC cut and calling the Medicare cut Obama did "saving the program". Looks like if you used the wacky democrat logic, Romney is actually saving those programs.

    My take:

Rachel Maddow may be the ugliest person on Earth.

Chris Matthews saying that the Republican platform is to deport everyone who isn't a white male.

That's about all I can take.

Now Harry Reid is telling everyone why he is so afraid of the Tea Party. Hilarious. Oh, and of course some more class warfare. Oh, and more "look a squirrel."

Funny to listen to him say "trust comes from transparency", what a hypocrite.

What is the right going to do for votes when the economy turns around?...and it's boom times like the 90's....and we can afford public sector benefits, and all the other things we can't afford now?

Everybody who was affected by cuts to defense, medicare, social security, and everything else will have a chip on thier shoulders for Christian social fundamentalists.....especially because they were so mean throughout the whole thing

Funny. Reid complaining about transparency. You must have missed his whole speech.

Pelosi, if you are willing to work hard, take responsibility, you will climb to the top, of course only with handouts from the government and more free stuff and more government control of citizens.

At least Reid isn't talking to an empty chair. The RNC was on peyote. It's refreshing to hear adults talk about real issues.

Hmm, now Obama made health care a "right". Someone needs to learn what rights are if education is supposed to be so important to them.

I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way evey time I turned Fox on during the GOP convention.

I have noticed Fox doing more countermessaging for the RNC than MSNBC did for the DNC during the GOP convention

No fears, liberals will have lots of new 'rights' so long as someone else is paying for them, soon as the cash cow is dead those 'rights' will disappear...

Fox had ugly idiots? I must have missed them. If you painted the Cryptkeeper black, you wouldn't be able to tell him and Sharpton apart.
