Nobody is "worth" that. And definitely not in the richest country in the world. People who work 8 hours a day deserve to make enough to earn a living wage. At $8.50 their work and efforts are being exploited.
Stop wasting our time. Nowhere in that link does it say that people work multiple jobs because the LIKE to.
Oh Dear God! You are ACTUALLY claiming that there is even a smidgeon of a possibility that people who work 2 or 3 jobs do so, not because they have to, but because they want to. The fact that you double down on such nonsense detriments your credibility. Substantially! It is a clear indicator of how seriously (or not seriously) we should take any future posts coming from you.
Exactly! NOW it's up to you (as explained on the OP). Before now it wasn't up to low skilled workers whether or not to accept jobs at exploitation-level wages. It wasn't up to them. It was up to their stomach and their family's stomach. Now it is up to them. THAT's what this thread is about.
You are the one 'reading' words that aren't there. The link doesn't say they 'have to', and no one said the link said anything about people 'liking to' you are trying to support an argument with cheesecloth, and it's not doing well. Here's some info for you. People work multiple jobs so they can pay for things that are above and beyond their normal expenses. Vacations, weddings, for example. People work multiple jobs (and this IS stated in your link) because both jobs are all part time. Some people do work more than one job for the enjoyment of it.... at an animal shelter, a food pantry, a senior center. Your attempts at selling the idea that people work multiple jobs only because they aren't making a 'living' wage at one job really doesn't hold up.
Damn, Here I thought this thread was about the accelerating number of democrats who are quitting the House because they can't stand to be associated with the new Democratic Party of Nancy...... i might even agree that this tiny subset of folks quitting their jobs would certainly make this nation a better place.
No, it doesn't hurt my credibility. Actually, yours is likely taken a bruise or two. Where in your link does it say anything about the reasons why someone works more than one job other than they want (they use the word want, not need) more money, or they have multiple part time jobs. In my other response, I gave several reasons why people might want to work multiple jobs.
You are once again neglecting to factor in the cost of living. Please show how this has improved the quality of life for the worker.
That's where you are wrong. I've worked with plenty of people that aren't even worth that much. Do you not even understand what "entry level" actually means? Why would a 15 year old kid "deserve" to earn $15/hr? Why would a druggie that has blown his mind out deserve that much? I'm not going to convince you of anything so I'll leave it there. Someday, maybe you'll figure it out. Maybe you should run a farm and pay everyone $15/hr and see how you do. When the farm goes under, you can just say, "well, people don't deserve to eat if I can't pay people $15/hr."
Your rationalization is more and more ridiculous every time. To assume that any significant portion of those 13 million people work multiple jobs for those reasons is nonsense. There is no way you can rationalize the statement you made. The article doesn't SAY that they have to because it's an assumption that any moderately intelligent human being who reads the article will make. NOBODY will be reading that article thinking that maybe they want to buy a Tesla when all they can afford is a cheap used Hyundai. Nobody except somebody who made a dumb remark and is now trying to rationalize it, that is. So you can stop now. You are only digging yourself into a deeper hole.
Assumptions. You've been making them all over the place. The reason the link doesn't say they have to, is because that would be an assumption, and reputable people and sources shouldn't make assumptions. People can make any amount of money, and still want above and beyond what they can afford. it's why people go into debt. It's because many, many people haven't figured out the difference between need and want. I'm not digging myself into any hole, you can't validate your argument, and in thinking you can, you make assumptions. Your link does not say they have to. No person who has a vague understanding of business would make that assumption.
Inflation has been around since ever. The wages have remained the same for quiet some time at the bottom of the ladder. So it is the inflation who now is causing the wages to go up, and so it's not the other way around that higher wages are causing inflation. The entire idea that you get a better job for sticking around.... I'm not seeing that. Your boss doesn't care about you. Get real. People can work for 30 years at the same place, retire.. and the day after the nicest speech the new person comes in and things go on as if nothing changed. A boss also will fire you after decades of you being loyal. It is what it is. I wouldn't know why you should pass on the idea of getting a better job somewhere else. The loss of income hurts your entire family.
To double a $8 hour wage to $16 hour does NOT double the cost of a business. These silly claims are the usual propaganda the business owners and their corporate lackies (like Republicans) to allow their old profitability of 30 or 40 times to 20,000 times increased profitability. Increasing a $8 per hour wage to $16 per hour only increases a $4 Quarter Pounder 20 or 30 cents each, which does NOT ruin our economy. How can the Right be so clueless about math if they were trying to be honest? https://archive.thinkprogress.org/t...cost-if-the-minimum-wage-was-15-184b7523b273/
Okay. I went back and you only dodged the question. Dodging shows that one is uninformed or that the facts do not support their position. The only one getting a raise is the tax man. The worker is no better off.
Just a niggle with your post. “Inflation” is caused by unearned dollars being inserted into the economy. Those dollars do tend to push up the prices of things. Inflation also creates a need for wages to go up in order to keep up with the lower purchasing power of those dollars. Of course, that kind of wage increase doesn’t really do anything for the worker except to keep up. But I don’t necessarily agree that higher wages create inflation. Higher wages may result in higher prices for things and/or lower profits, but they don’t create inflation.
Like Democrats, Republicans are not clueless; just greedy. It takes profound levels of gullibility to believe a politician has a genuine concern for your well being. This is about power. Your example is far from reasonable. Lets use Los Angeles as an example. Please show how how the quality of life for the hourly worker improved since min wage went to $15. July 2020.
This is artificially created by government handouts once those dry up will be right back to where we were. I'm sure if the businesses could pay more to have employees working for them they would when you don't have employees working for you you don't make money. The only reason to hire somebody is to increase profits.
Really? A worker gets another $7/per hour for working and that had no effect on the quality of life there? The inflation increases has been going on for several years but I suppose Republicans will claim its all Biden's fault that many workers will be a better life.
Correct. The amount by itself has no meaning until the cost of living is factored in. We are discussing Los Angeles. Republicans have no voice here. The tax man got a raise, but the worker is no better off.
Really!? My next door neighbor netted over $200 per week after taxes and that is with no overtime. After her last year's $50 per month rent increase from Mr. Trump inflation, her extra new car payment will give her a somewhat "better quality of life", especially since her 20 year old car died .
The BLS ink I provided breaks down the numbers. Moving †he goalposts? You know that how? We'll see. By the way, the company won't be paying that "living wage" - the customers will which raises their cost of living.
Maybe the supply chain crunch is man-made. Are California’s Strict Emission Laws Causing US Supply Chain Chaos? Eric Worrall Governor Gavin Newsom just signed an executive order suspending weight limits on trucks servicing Californian ports. But does this order address the real cause of the problem? . . .
