And you're sacrificing those working for those that aren't, can't, or won't. When our purchasing power drops, and consumption slows, who will be laying off whom? And for what? The common good? Nothing like a little human sacrifice to brighten your future--especially if you are on the receiving end.
It doesn't follow from those cultural and political divisions that China will advance at all. The same is said every few years about Muslims, Japanese, Communists, and so on. Right now, unlike the US, China has no real succession system, and that is a real weakness. The USA has always been divided between different factions, it's a very messy democracy, but in the end the people will unite. if the Chinese (only seemingly united because of a lack of free media) do attack the US then the American people will have the opportunity to exercise their Second Amendment rights. I wouldn't underestimate the possibility of other democracies also getting involved.

Trump’s objective is to eliminate the theft of IP and elimination of Chinese tariffs and trade restrictions on US exports to China. He is using tariffs as a “stick” to accomplish this. This benefits US workers. It does not penalize them. Why don’t progressives understand this ???
These guys ADVChina, SerpentZA, and laowhy86 are good. I learned a lot from watching these guys. All I ever hear from the US media on China is negative stuff. When these guys are reporting there always seem to be hundeds of happy Chinese in the background. Much of what we are fed on tiananmen square is BS. Wikileaks leaked reports from the US anbassador written while that was going on. The military was brutal but the numbers were exagerated by the US. The protesters set some PLA trucks on fire and killed soldiers which pissed the soldiers off. Lately they have been more negative on China as they report from outide and also since the govt is becoming more negative toward foreigners. The unity of China when they were under Mao was very harmful so it is not just the unity but what they are doing. There are cultural and IMO genetic reasons why they are doing well. They will do well because they are more rational than the west, which has been taken over by regulatory sclerosis. They need electricty they build coal plant and dams. We take 20 years to do the envorinmental review and believe in renewable energy. A few years ago the CCP standing comittee had 8 engineers and 1 economist. The US has mostly lawyers. They think differently. Xi was trained as a chemical engineer. Steve Jobs used his one meeting with Obama to offer to work on his next campaign and to tell him that Apple built its new glass plants in China because of govt regulatory delays and costs, not because of cheap labor. Then Obama formed some group to promote STEM etc but it consisted of crony capitalists, politicians and assorted butt lickers so Jobs refused to be part of it.
I found one book on China that was good. China is different but hard to explain. In some ways it is much better than I expected. China is Asian, and the govt does not fit into a flowchart. Yeh, right, and WalMart is eating all the 'mom and pops' that made America great. It used to be WE were the subversives, WE were the ones foreigners erected tariffs against. Having to appeal to patriotism and tariffs to make us buy our own stuff is about the most Un-American thing I can even conceive of. Americans buy value and we demand it for less. You learn your lesson? Everyone knew the jobs were going to leave. At least those who don't follow party BS. So most of us already know what will happen. So I doubt wiser is part of it. And I asked, we are at near full employment. Now the R's want to ruin the economy to bring jobs back they make leave. Who will fill them? Immigrants? Be smart, since you are now older, you don't have much more time to get wise.
