I can understand why someone could ratioalize to be an atheist. I just dont't know how reason can help you in certain situations. What's the quote, "There are no atheists in foxhouse" John <<< MODERATOR EDIT: ADVERTISING/REDIRECT REMOVED >>>
I see, the reason why you are so a dirty atheist is because you are a Social Rebel, and this conclusion of mine is not because I'm a daltonien... no... is not...
I never understood why certain atheists are so die hard about it. It's probably environmental factors that lead them to it the same way religious people believe a particular creed when there's thousands of others out there. I would say I do believe in God, but I've got no particular idea of what it is/they are. That classic argument (which I reckon someone will come along and tell me is wrong) where its a choice between "in the beginning there was absolutely nothing, then suddenly there was something" or "something has always existed". The idea of "nothing" is hard to get your head around, and that something could come from that seems an impossibility. So I would say that something has always existed, and for me the idea of eternity is something that can be closely related to God.
Dark matter is not even a specific thing. It's a term given to describe the phenomena that has yet to be explained. Scientists can deduce from observation that there is something based on it's effects to matter around it and it's cosmological implications on the expansion rate of the universe and the distribution of matter. Even this placeholder term to describe an unexplained occurrence has more evidence for it's existence than God does.
Great that you said that in the Humor & Satire forum because is laughable such an idea of "expanding universe". What are the basis for this silly idea of an expansion of the universe? As you can't point the direction of such a "center" of the universe because using our instruments we see all the galaxies moving away from us, the deluded uses a balloon, paints dots "on the surface" of it, and inflates the balloon and says: "See? when the balloon expands all the dots go away one from another, and for this reason we can't find the center of the universe and everything appears to be moving away from us" What an idiot! And, who says that all the galaxies are located "on the surface of the universe"? Hello?... If an expanded universe is in progress we should see what is the center and what is the direction of our traveling away from such a center, unless...WE ARE THE CENTER! ha ha ha... So, without this observation of a center, the idea of an expanding universe is no more than mere imaginations. On the other hand, some use the Doppler Effect to say that by oserving wavelenghts behavior we can conclude that "space" also expands. To make short their laughable argument, I will use an analogy for this second thought of them: 1)- You use your Doppler Effect gun radar and point a car in front of you. 2)- The driver of the car starts the machine and goes away from you at full speed. 3)- The device shows you that the car is going away from you at 75mph! 4) You ignore the moving car and you conclude that it's not the car moving away from you but that the street is expanding... ha ha ha ha.... Yeap, this idea of an expanding universe doesn't belong to the Science forum but fits greatly here in Humor & Satire... Thank you for providing us such a gracious post, it was funny... very funny...
Believing in a Deity is (IMO) an allegory for some unified explanation of what human brains instinctively know but struggle to perceive. I believe there may be clues in quantum theory (specifically the holographic theory). There's lots of information available in this field and a lot of it is mind-bending even beyond the belief in a deity or evolution. Have you studied any of this?
I have in a analogical context, Fabric of the Cosmos, Elegant Universe, Brief History of Time, etc., etc. I do not possess the knowledge for an actual mathematical understanding. - - - Updated - - - I am not an atheist, what is your point?
The Holographic Universe theory seems completely unbelievable. It suggests that the physical world we believe to be real is an illusion but it is based on scientific discovery. If you have time, look up the videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMBt_yfGKpU. I would appreciate your perspective. BTW so far I do not see any bias in those videos toward Atheism, Religion, Politics or any attempt at brainwashing etc....
Another anology I have heard is this: The universe as we describe it a hologram that is derived from the interactions in higher dimensional space/branes outside of our observable universe. Much like how the label of a can dictates the contents of the can. S our universe is real in the sense that is is physical, but a hologram of the universe's external interactions/physical laws. That us more of a macroscopic holographic universe, it can go down to the Matrix level micorscopic. I am listening to your video... an hour and a half... I love lectures in the office.
Yes that is pretty close to what they are proposing. Thanks for taking a look. Let me know what you think. When viewing those videos sometimes I think they are entering loony tune, la la land. But then they seem to come back and some of it makes sense to me.
A lot of atheists, especially younger atheists believe it partly out of 'rebellion' - maybe they were brought up in an overly-strict religious household and pissed off about it, and haven't thought it all through like that. I think the more militant ones fit that category - the ones who've rationally thought it out aren't so eager to attack religion on a regular basis.
I would think that such kids are not so much atheists as they are against some of the stupidities of organized religion. I mean some highly religious people are really F#@&$% UP. AboveAlpha
That theory is lunacy. The reason is by its own principle To make a hologram, the object to be photographed is first bathed in the light of a laser beam. ... and light in the universe is not laser. End of the story. http://www.relfe.com/A06/holographic_universe.html
atheists are growing in number because of education not rebellion... a bit like the terrorist or freedom fighter definition, it all depends of your POV on the issue...what to you define as a atheist militant to me is someone who is standing up for his/her rights to equal treatment... conversely you could be defined as a religious militant for resisting equal treatment for non religious...
