Actually, it's not much of a surprise, and it's a bowing to reality. That's why they changed the census the last time to allow Hispanics to also choose race. It's ridiculous the way our culture defines white. A Spaniard is white until his plane touches down in the US, and suddenly he is "Hispanic."

The fact is, there are plenty of of Hispanics who are also white. I live in Florida and every Cuban I've ever met (and I've met a lot) are white. That's why this nonsense about whites becoming a minority in 2040 or some such is ridiculous. It's only based on counting all Hispanics as some sort of separate race.

Cubans and Spaniard only make up a small minority of Hispanics though (3.5 & 1.3). I would say that a vast majority of Hispanics in the US are Mestizos.

Northern people were hunters, and they did not need slaves to do hard work, they had a different kind of slavery.
