Yep, and the problem with this virus is that it's so contagious, and has already mutated. To top it off, according to an article I read yesterday, whatever immunity you develope is temporary anyways.

Unfortunately, to control the virus you have to control the hosts. That sounds dystopian as all hell, and I don't like it, but that's just reality of the situation.

People need to isolate to help stop the spread until the medical and scientific community has a chance to efficiently fight this thing.

Total cases are irrelevant, its cases that require additional action such as hospitalization that matter. How is that difficult to understand?

It's not like we have to hide in a bunker until there's a vaccine. Lots of promising things are coming; meds, treatments, vaccines being fast tracked, medical equipment being pumped out.

Our medical infrastructure simply cannot handle the results of us going about life as if nothing is going on. We'll be the next Italy.

I take it as a warning that the young will die from the Chinese novel virus that should make the young more careful as they are not bullet proof.

Not really. Total cases are important. Total cases indicate the rate at which the virus is spreading. This spread is exponential, which means that the virus will infect the at risk, and those people will end up hospitalized, many will need intensive care, and many will die.

    Exponential.

The hospitals will be overwhelmed. Better hope you don't need intensive care for something not related to this virus.

Fair enough. But if there are unreported underlying conditions this is following the known path. If not then clearly something has changed. That doesn't appear to be the case...

Lets forget all safe guards as this will hinder the economy given it is more importsnt to help china and their economy than to protect our people.

If this govt does not return essential manufacturing for national security over max profits for the 1 percent and our voters dont send them home. ..it will reflect utter stupidity that has no cure

You put money first, not America. There is a big difference.

I don't agree with everything Suze Orman syas and does, but I like her motto:

People first, money second, things last. That's exactly what this situation is all about.

Worse than Italy since people brag it's 60 M vs 330 M. They're right, we're bigger that means we could have even more cases if we don't treat this in the only way we can. It's against what the country believes and what it stands for, but for there to be a country at all we've got to do this.

Let me put it another way.

60% of the U.S. economy is based on the consumption of goods.

Explain to me how consumption will return to some normality if the country is in the grip of a pandemic.

Do you think people will go to Wal-Mart, grocery stores, etc. normally if 5% of the American population is carrying the virus?

No, that's not going to happen.

There will never be a return to normal as long as the disease is spreading in the country.

It does feel contrary to the spirit of this nation, but we're in different territory at the moment and need to be adaptive, momentarily.

There will be a point where we can go back to business as usual, but we absolutely need to do something about the issue at hand - this virus.

I'm putting myself in quarantine and washing my hands big time. That's what I can do to keep myself alive.

So what you're saying is that globally cases are in the tens of millions, maybe 100 million and the death rate is very low

This is true and thanks for saying that!

I am in my mid 70s and if this doesn't send me to the dirt nap something else will like the cancer that returned after being cut out several years ago .

It's been a good run and I am lucky to have lived this long ! Many of my friends died early. My concern is for my kids and grandkids. Dont want to outlive any of them .

I've been in isolation for 8 days now, I think.

Had 5 days of covid type symptoms, finally went to urgent care. Diagnosis was 'unspecified viral infection'. Felt better for a day. Woke up this morning due to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea twice in an hour. Felt better for a bit, now it's fever with a touch of delerium. Good times.

In my state (Mississippi) slightly more than 1 in 4 confirmed cases are hospitalized.

Health officials in Mississippi reported Tuesday that there are now 320 total cases of COVID-19 in the state. Seventy-one new cases were reported Tuesday, up from 45 cases that were reported Monday. Currently, 27% of Mississippians with COVID-19 are hospitalized. The others are able to self-quarantine at home.

The thing with the Fever, is that that's the body's mechanism for defeating viruses and other bacteria. Heat it up to kill the viruses. But to add to the load of complications with this damn thing is that it's uncertain if in fact this COVID-19 will actually fall to the Heat.

We are already in a Global Depression.

If we do nothing more and go back to work as Drumpf suggests, the numbers of sick people showing up at the hospital will crush our medical system. What would be the point of even having an economy if we decimate our infrastructure?

We have a home sauna coming, there's a doctor out there who claimed this treatment killed the coronavirus in a patient.

Only to those that make themselves available to contract the virus. Those that are concerned or should be concerned should isolate themselves in their homes where they are reasonably safe from the virus. This shouldn't require a nation wide lock down order.

Some who're otherwise healthy are still becoming sick enough to require hospitalization. Plus, not everyone is aware that they have the underlying conditions that increase the odds of serious consequence.

I've been drinking relatively warm water lately. Not super hot or anything, but I looked up on google that warm water has positive health effects anyway(surprises me, since I normally like cold drinks.) And am going to add that to my daily diet routine if I'm still around and kicking by 2021.

I agree with that completely and think that we are on our way to finding very promising treatments like chloroquine. Looks like that is more likely going to happen before a vaccine does.

When that happens and if fatalities are dramatically reduced, I think we should quarantine at risk groups and end the shut down.
