Growers in Colorado have developed a cultivar of marijuana that is VERY low in THC, the chemical that gets you high, but very high in the chemical that helps with chemotherapy, epilepsy, and many other diseases.

This cultivar should be patented and licensed by the FDA for use as a medicine.

And btw, the FDA/DEA has already licensed and patented another cultivar of marijuana for other diseases, so clearly they don't have an actual problem with the concept of marijuana for medicine, they just need Congress to step up and accept the facts.

....FYI- I do not support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Its affects on awareness and motor skills I feel are too dangerous, especially when driving, using firearms, using tools, etc.

but it should be available in medicinal form, have its purity regulated and controlled by the FDA.

Congress quietly ends federal government's ban on medical marijuana

    Source: LAT

Tucked deep inside the 1,603-page federal spending measure is a provision that effectively ends the federal government's prohibition on medical marijuana and signals a major shift in drug policy.

The bill's passage over the weekend marks the first time Congress has approved nationally significant legislation backed by legalization advocates. It brings almost to a close two decades of tension between the states and Washington over medical use of marijuana.

Under the provision, states where medical pot is legal would no longer need to worry about federal drug agents raiding retail operations. Agents would be prohibited from doing so.

The Obama administration has largely followed that rule since last year as a matter of policy. But the measure approved as part of the spending bill, which President Obama plans to sign this week, will codify it as a matter of law.

This will also increase tax revenues which pay for the costs of health care. Too bad so many unpatriotic delusionals of the far right hate to see reforms like this as they benefit society.

I like to smoke weed, it makes things taste nice and then i laugh a lot too. using it as medicine though... well... there are alternative medicines that won't inhibit your performance. i mean, it is "to take the pain away" or something, and, why not use pain killers instead of taking time to go through the courts?
