I have no problem with concealed carry of a handgun, for personal protection. As long as you had some training and a good background check.

But Open Carry?? it serves only ONE purpose, and that is to intimidate people.

Right wing extremists almost daily march on state capitals with their loaded AR-15s and AK-47s trying to intimidate politicians into doing their bidding.

The 2nd Amendment protects the right to defend yourself, NOT to intimidate people.

Open Carry of all firearms should be banned, especially in government buildings.

Ultimately for what purpose? Why should an individual be legally required to prove to government that they can be responsible with their constitutional rights before they are allowed to exercise said constitutional rights.

Then go about proving such. Demonstrate the clear and concise evidence of the above claim, that the open carrying of firearms is purely for the purpose of intimidation, and serves absolutely no other purpose.

    Again, go about proving such.

The fact there are so many individuals willingly present at such gatherings, rather than scattering as fast as possible, indicates that no intimidation is actually occurring. The burden of proof is on the part of yourself to back up the claims being made.

society has a compelling interest in making sure people carrying a gun are not criminals and know what the **** they are doing.

Concealed carry should be legal without a permit as I agree, it is the polite way to carry - one should not have to get permission from the government to be polite

no, we need to make sure you know how to safely and properly use a handgun in close quarters. thats what many counties in NY require.

Punishment comes during sentencing, as long as such restrictions only apply to those under government supervision (jail, prison, parole, probation), fine with restriction of their constitutional rights, as the government is like their parents\guardians in that case, once they are free, all constitutional rights should be restored

if we want to punish people longer, that should happen during sentencing

so do we need training on religion and speech too, how to do them safely? with a permit required to do them?

if it was not a right, I would agree with you, then it would be the same as driving a car

Are firearms, other than for officers, permitted in courtrooms?

I find it curious that armed agents of the state are not "intimidating" when open carrying but some find citizens "intimidating".

If society truly had a compelling interesting in preventing known criminals from possessing firearms, that said compelling interest could be used as a justification for keeping such individuals confined to the appropriate facilities for the duration of their natural lives, as they have already proven that they cannot and will not abide by the rules of society, so they have no reason to being released back into society where they present the greatest risk of harm.

The actions of the state of New York have no bearing on the discussion. The burden of proof is on yourself to explain why private individuals can and should be legally compelled to prove they can be responsible with their constitutional rights, before they are legally allowed to exercise their constitutional rights.

It is 'funny' that even just a few years ago men felt secure enough in themselves to circulate without the aid of a firearm on them.
    What has changed about men?

The matter has nothing to do with concepts relating to the topic of manliness, or feeling secure. The matter pertains exclusively to the legal exercising of a constitutional right.

Should you, as a united states citizen, be legally compelled to explain why your voting for the candidate of your choosing is a legitimate decision to engage in, as opposed to simply accepting whatever candidate is chosen on your behalf?

Actually, they are very intimidating, see that guy shot down in the hotel room, if they mistake one for a threat... could be game over, even if it's just a child with a toy gun

I think most people become concerned when an open carrying person loses their temper or seems agitated

When is the last time an open carrier went postal? I'd be more concerned about criminals concealed carrying. If the police are so intimidating, why do we , as a society tolerate it?

I do not know, I would feel better if bad cops were punished when caught doing bad acts... same as citizens.. Wouldn't you?

not only did he get off for the killing of an innocent man, they rehired him, so he could apply for pension

"Police officer who fatally shot sobbing man temporarily rehired to apply for pension"

study history... many have died in the name of religions

but the point is, they are all rights... not privileges

if we weaken one right, we weaken them all.. that is my fear

Half of them barely know a thing about guns and when they fire 40 or so rounds in the city, where are all those bullets going?
