Crime, including gun crime, has soared in the UK since British subjects were disarmed. London is now just another urban hell hole. "Gun crime was up 42% and knife crime rose 24%. Overall crime was up 4.5% to nearly 774,737 offences, with 16.72% counted as solved, down from 18.8% the previous year. The Met published the figures on Wednesday as Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary highlighted “some areas of serious concern” – drawing attention to several problems faced by Britain’s largest force as its new commissioner, Cressida Dick, takes over." THE GUARDIAN, Met police performance criticised as London gun and knife crime soar, London force releases figures on day HMIC highlights ‘serious concerns’ over child protection and crime detection, Vikram Dodd Police and crime correspondent, Wed 12 Apr 2017. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-serious-concerns-over-met-police-performance
Gun control advocates can never get around the fact that as gun ownership has increased in the US, gun crime has gone down.
Someone needs to tell Trump and Republicans that, because they're preparing to hand a victory to the gun control movement.
Kind of like how a semi-automatic internet enables crime, child pornography, doxxing, and terrorism. We should shut the internet down to make it harder for criminals to commit crimes. I mean this thing didn't even exist when they wrote the Constitution.
According to a study published in the American Journal of Medicine this spring, the gun homicide rate in the United States is more than 25 times higher than the rate in other high-income nations. Among 15-24 year olds, the rate is nearly 50 times higher. Of all gun fatalities in the 23 countries the researchers reviewed, 82% occur in the United States. https://247wallst.com/special-report/2016/06/21/the-10-states-with-the-least-gun-violence/ STATES WITH THE LEAST GUN VIOLENCE Hawaii Rhode Island Massachusetts New York Connecticut New Jersey STATES WITH THE WORST GUN VIOLENCE Alaska Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Montana Arkansas Your self-serving, anecdotal opinion is noted. although states do vary as indicated above. A high percentage of a local populace being gun dependent is only one factor. Permissiveness in their acquisition is a major contributor. Empirical data: Analysis: Universal Background Checks Really Do Cut Gun Deaths "...The truth is that we have a pretty good grasp at what's going on. People who shouldn't have access to guns are getting access." AUGUST 8, 2019 https://www.govexec.com/management/...round-checks-really-do-cut-gun-deaths/159025/
Be that as it may, I don't attribute the lack of gun violence in our area to the prevalence of guns. Ultimately, our homes and community are safe because the individuals living within them take responsibility for themselves and our community.
He's proposing new gun control when he should be defending the second amendment without reservation or qualification.
My only point is that their narrative of "more guns = more crime" is flatly contradicted by the evidence. They simply cannot reconcile their arguments with the facts, so they resort to emotional blackmail and intellectual sophistry instead.
This study has nothing to do with the proliferation of firearms and the level of firearm fatalities in the US, both exceeding all other advanced nations by a wide margin. Fortunately, the American People, overwhelmingly, are now demanding that the permissiveness be addressed.
Sure it is, as long as they are willing to go about it the legal way. I'm not saying I support amending the Constitution but at the end of the day it is a document that outlines how to actually change itself if the nation wants to via Article V. Amending the Constitution is a royal pain in the rear process and nearly impossible to do. In this extremely diverse nation of ours if we actually followed Constitutional Law correctly and altered or removed the 2nd Amendment then that is a decision I would support. I wouldn't like it nor be in favor of it but knowing the process by which the amend the Constitution I have to say that if we actually did that then it's a decision that was agreed upon by the vast majority of the nation as a whole and I decision I would respect. What I don't respect are those trying to circumvent the legal process because they know it's extremely difficult to actually do. It's supposed to be that way, it was designed that way. It was designed that way so as to ensure that if we as a nation want to change our fundamental rights and laws then it's a decision that the majority has to make. This ensures that a loud minority or even a loud majority can't just drag the nation into whatever direction it wants. Remember, in order to even do this you need to have the entire South of the US on board as well as places like the Upper Midwest and Alaska and the Southwest like Arizona and Nevada. If you can get them on board then to me that would mean that the nation itself truly agrees that we need to change the Constitution and I'm ok with that. What I'm not ok with is folks throwing temper tantrums and trying to circumvent that process because they know damn well they'll never get the South on board and hate the fact that they have to count in the decision.
Good ol' Wayne haven't sat Trump down to have a talk yet. Trump will go silent on this in another few weeks. We've seen how the clown operates.
Don’t worry, Trump is going to take all sides of the issue from one tweet to the next, and eventually do nothing. McConnell won’t bring any measures to the floor unless he absolutely has to. They’re all waiting for the audience to chase the next shiny object. Until recently, the could count on Trump to say or do something stupid or irresponsible to provide that distraction’ But the audience seems to be getting bored and disgusted with the vulgarity, the tweets, and the obvious incompetence.
In your dreams TJ. In fact, the gun ban was a failure from the start, it is a matter of public record. Decades after the gun ban all crime including gun crime has soared. How can that ever happen after gun are banned by law? Think it through. “This week the West Midlands was labelled “the nation’s gun crime capital” as figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that the region now has a higher rate of firearms offences for its population than London.” THE GUARDIAN, UK's 'gun crime capital': rancour and regret over West Midlands label, Josh Halliday, 2/20/2015. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...l-rancour-and-regret-over-west-midlands-label
Almost all Americans are now very afraid of their government. That's why gun control is now the political third rail smart politicians will not touch.
Only in Daydream Believer Land. "Donald J. Trump doesn’t always seem like a candidate focused on expanding his base of support. He may have done so anyway. The share of Americans who say they have a favorable view of him has increased significantly since the 2016 election. And over the last few months, some of the highest-quality public opinion polls, though not all, showed the president’s job approval rating — a different measure from personal favorability — had inched up to essentially match the highest level of his term." THE NEW YORK TIME, Don’t Assume Trump’s Approval Rating Can’t Climb Higher. It Already Has. Millions of Americans who did not like the president in 2016 now say they do., By Nate Cohn, Aug. 7, 2019. Reality really bites - doesn't it?
Trump comes from an NYC environment where he can get a concealed carry permit and Howard Stern can get a concealed carry permit, but the average person cannot get a carry permit. He is not to be trusted with respect to the 2nd Amendment IMHO.
