That is possibly the dumbest thing i have heard all day. Do guns have mind control devices built in them? Do you suffer from weird impulses? do you see a gun and start shaking, needing to kill? Maybe YOU have the mental problem. Just because you are screwed up doesn't give you the right to punish the rest of us sane people.

 

I don't think I suffer from murderous impulses or poor impulse control but rather obviously some people do. And I'm not the one saying I should be permitted to have something that can easily kill many people. Why do you feel the need to have such a thing? People like you scare sane people like myself.

You're the one saying it should be harder for law abiding people to get such a thing. People willing to break the law will still be able to get guns illegally. Its them you should be scared of. And just remember, when they break into your home, you'll be alone with them for at least minutes (likely longer) before the police arrive, assuming they let you get to a phone.

If you consider threat of violence to keep rights and liberties spelled out in the constitution secure, then we have different definitions. Besides, with hundreds of millions of gun owners, violence is pretty much guaranteed not to happen. That’s why we keep firearms. To keep them in check, So that it doesn’t come to bloodshed.

It's still the threat of murder, and even just the threat is an ugly and uncivilized thing. If it ever comes to that most people think that our country will be gone already when that happens. IMO it's much preferable not to even have that alternative at all.

Funny how it is civilized when this country sent me to kill in its name, but heaven forbid I stand up for what I believe in and back it up with lethal force.
I’ll take an uncivilized, dangerous, and ugly world where I am free to defend myself and my family over a civilized one where I need to rely on others to keep myself and my family safe. I trust myself over police any day of the week. Not that I don’t respect them and the tough job that they do, but when it comes to my personal defense, I can do it better.
