military hardware is simply cool. Conscription was abolished in Sweden, so I wasn't called in, but I'm thinking that I will go the "basic military education" for a few months anyways just because I think the military is cool.
Cinco de May is not an Hispanic holiday. Its barely a Mexican one. Pride in a nation and pride in your own self indulgence like a gay parade is not the same thing. Nor would I try to equate a corn harvest with a military parade for the same reason.
We already do, don't we? We have flyovers for football games & all sorts of big events, including parades. We also have military bands marching in parades. So, I'm not sure this a great departure from SOP. Maybe I'm missing something, but if Trump thinks displaying our military strength is a good thing, as opposed to maybe highlighting 2 gay military folks getting hitched or their willingness to supply "prayer space" for Muslims, I'd say he's on the right path. Diversity doesn't win wars, it's won by having more strength & brains than your enemy. Sorry, but that's just the way it works.
One of the founding principles of the United States is that we should always be under civilian control. Early on we weren't even supposed to have a standing army. To put the military on display as a show of political power violates the ideas the United States stands for and many citizens find offensive. To be sure the military pops up in parades all over America. But they are there as members of our communities, not as a show of force. Almost every air show manages to get military jets to perform. Again as a display of skill and not as a show of force. Parading the military out in force is something that is done in Russia, China, and North Korea. It is something Americans have looked down on them for. When I was a child American conservatives were always going on about how they'd rather be dead than red. Lately they have been embracing their redness.
When I see that veterans are over represented in homeless camps, drug and alcohol treatment centers, and mental wards it reminds me of how grateful I am that I had the options so that I never had to join the military. Sure one can feel pride with having been in the military but in no way does it necessarily exceed the pride others feel in other endeavors.
the military wouldn't be doing any policing.. that is for the police to do. When the military parades it's a show of force for how strong WE, as a country, are. it's OUR force. When you live in a democratic country, I can't understand how you could percieve that as "oppressive" or whatever.. If some citizens are offended by the military I wonder if they should even be citizens...
You have to feel sorry for all the snowflakes out there who think Trump shock troopers are going to be knocking on their doors on January 21st. Sorry guys it's going to be a seamless transition and the only way you'll know it happened is when the economy goes through the roof and people haves good paying jobs again.
The units are going to drill anyway might as well let them participate in various parades around the country. The same goes for airshow and flyovers, the currency or training requirements demands X hours per month. Cheers
When their job can end their life in the defense of freedom for others it kinda goes beyond being proud you are gay.
The United States began as a territory occupied by British forces. One can not have a tyranny without a show of military force to back it up. Do not forget that it is primarily through conservative Republican efforts that the United States has the largest prison population in the world.
The US has the largest prison population because we're the best at catching criminals and locking them up. We don't care what race or religion they are or where they came from we just put their asses in the deep freeze.
Perhaps since I already answered your question, you could weigh in on why those important causes you listed aren't being met...but we are spending so much on Climate Phantoms? Think maybe we should redirect that money to the sound causes you gave instead? it was quite a bit of cash as I already showed you.
Trump is a pathetic clown. Saddam Hussein used to have big, showy, military parades. And donnie-boy has always wanted to be like Saddam Hussein. That is, at those times when hes not wanting to be like his boyfriend, Vladimir Putin. Its clear that trump has mental problems.
What's pathetic is making up BS from thin air on a political forum which should be more inclined towards seeking the truth. I'm sure every patient in the ward thinks the doctors and nurses have mental problems. Care to share any links pertaining to your accusations about Saddam? That's a new one.
Better then a gay parade , wouldn't you agree? I mean why parade around our mentally ill when we can parade around our hero's?
Which is why I wonder if this is actually legal. We do have marching bands, but military parades? If it's legal, cool. I just hope that this doesn't lead to anything more. Nothing would be worse than the Democrats being right about what kind of threat Trump poses to our way of life.
