I'd be happy if Trump marched our military straight into Canada to shut up some of the whiners there...

I don't recall where I first saw this nonsense about Trump allegedly wanting tanks at the parade posted, but for those who think that Snopes is biased, I offer this:

    http://www.snopes.com/trump-military-inaugural-parade/

    Fact Check

    Heavy Meddle
An unidentified source purportedly stated that Donald Trump asked for missiles and artillery at his inaugural parade.

Claim: Donald Trump requested tanks and missile launchers at his inaugural parade.

    unproven

Example: [Collected via Twitter, January 2017]

So Trump wanted a Soviet style inaugural parade with tanks and missiles. DOD said no, let him have a flyover. As of tomorrow he runs DOD.

    — Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) January 19, 2017

Origin:On 19 January 2017, the Huffington Post published an article reporting that President-elect Donald Trump requested tanks and missiles at his inaugural parade but was not granted that wish:

The military “may come marching down Pennsylvania Avenue,” Trump told the Washington Post in an interview . “That military may be flying over New York City and Washington, D.C., for parades. I mean, we’re going to be showing our military.”

During the preparation for Friday’s transfer-of-power, a member of Trump’s transition team floated the idea of including tanks and missile launchers in the inaugural parade, a source involved in inaugural planning told The Huffington Post. “They were legit thinking Red Square/North Korea-style parade,” the source said, referring to massive military parades in Moscow and Pyongyang, typically seen as an aggressive display of muscle-flexing.

The military, which traditionally works closely with the presidential inaugural committee, shot down the request, the source said. Their reason was twofold. Some were concerned about the optics of having tanks and missile launchers rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue. But they also worried that the tanks, which often weigh over 100,000 pounds, would destroy the roads.

“I could absolutely see structural support being a reason [not to use tanks],” a Department of Defense official said. “D.C. is built on a swamp to begin with.”

The HuffPo article referenced a New York Times article profile in which Trump was briefly quoted as advocating military parades:

“Being a great president has to do with a lot of things, but one of them is being a great cheerleader for the country,” Trump said. “And we’re going to show the people as we build up our military, we’re going to display our military.

“That military may come marching down Pennsylvania Avenue. That military may be flying over New York City and Washington, D.C., for parades. I mean, we’re going to be showing our military,” he added.

The claim that Trump wanted a "full Soviet-style inaugural parade, with tanks, missiles and missile launchers" was widely aggregated by other online outlets, but we've so far been unable to locate any corroboration of it other than the unnamed "source involved in inaugural planning" reference by the Huffington Post.

Of course we are proud of them, I just wish we never needed a military however, that would be in an utopian world - which we do not exist in. As for "showing off the military in parades" - I'm okay with it.

The British Royal Forces customarily has deployment and returning parades to honor their soldiers and promote morale so what is the big issue with the military forces being honored they are our front line from foreign threats and to aid others in humanitarian missions.

Aw shucks, what's the problem? Trump wants to speak softly and carry a big stick. He wants to get out of invading other nations and spending trillions on nation building, while making the best military in the world....his big stick. He knows Russia isn't a threat but figures communist china could be after we financed their rise, or our elites did. So, this showing off his big stick fits in with the changes in foreign policy that he wants. Look out for America first, set an example for other nations instead of forcing our ways on them, and if anyone wants to (*)(*)(*)(*) with us then, he had the military to eat their lunch. Perfect sanity. Common sense and traditionally American.

My life would be boring if we were never needed. Personally I'd rather go to war than be in a parade. I hate D&C. But, I don't have anything against a parade. As long as I am not in it.

Last I remember, our military don't get paid overtime. I distinctly remember several 80 hour work weeks and didn't get extra pay. My son doesn't get overtime either. The flyovers can be counted toward training. It'll give the military an excuse to use their dress blues. I only wore mine for basic training, retreat ceremonies, and review boards. There will be a little bit of cost in fuel and logistics, but the extra cost of a military parade is minimal. The extra clean machines will be good for finding problems that dirt tends to cover up.

As hard as I worked in the military fixing jets, there was still plenty of downtime during a shift.
