I would say that there are no big lines of Americans forming to get a chance at temporary agricultural jobs.
You have really weird ideas on labor! The USA uses free market economics. If Trump posts a job opening for minimum wage and gets no takers, it does NOT mean there are no workers willing to do that kind of work. It means that the offer was too low. I don't know what YOU do/did for a living, but if someone offered you a job to do that for minimum wage, I'd bet you wouldn't snap up that job. But, that doesn't form a justification for that job to be outsourced to foreign labor.
So what you're saying is, if illegal aliens are blocked from entering the country, businesses will have to raise their wages? You don't say? Tell me more.
Fact: The number of undocumented aliens has not grown since the beginning of the Obama administration. And, that was the first time the number of undocumented aliens hadn't grown in several decades at least. I'm not interested in guest worker programs for a number of reasons. First of all, guest worker programs are essentially always present for ONE primary reason: to depress wages. There is NO possibility that a guest worker program would be beneficial to an American worker.
Oh that's a fact? Great, go ahead and give me the exact number of illegal aliens in the US as of 8AM this morning, and provide me the methodology they used to come to that figure.
It's just a fact that undocumented immigration depresses wages. Waving a wand over them to make them "guest workers" does not change that at all. So, yes. Wages for labor have not grown nearly enough for a long, long time now. The result is more people in poverty. Continuing attempts to keep wages depressed may be great for the wealthy, corporations, etc. But, it makes it harder for workers to keep themselves out of poverty and the social safety net.
Well, it certainly can. You see those work visas have their own expenses. Possibly paying for travel for those temporary workers, the legal fees, processing fee's etc. That alone could see a significant increase in the hourly wage to attract local workers. Not to mention, as I already said, personally I think the solution is to make anyone who can work and is on government assistance do those jobs. Two birds, one stone.
No, the number of undocumented aliens in the US is not growing. In fact, it hasn't grown in a decade. "Must be approved"? Why would they be approved? What's the justification for putting more downward pressure on the wages of American workers? Beyond that, guest worker policies bring problems of their own. It grows communities of workers who have zero investment in their communities, have no health care, no objective other than money, none of the support or moderation that families provide, etc. They're a population vulnerable to every possible mistreatment by employers, as they have essentially zero legal protection. They have no representation, meaning that every aspect of their lives is imposed on them - which can be made legal, but clearly has costs in terms of the result. It allows a clear path for aliens to enter our country with the intent to stay.
I'm talking about temporary visas, not illegal immigration there. Not you or anyone else knows how many actual illegal aliens are in this country. That's the entire intent behind coming in illegally, so that you don't know they're here.
I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing ok. I know what migrant workers are. I spent a summer working in pioneer valley in western Mass picking vegetables in my early 20s. Very hard work, but not a job that Americans won't do. It's just a job that most Americans have never had to do.
Under our system of free market economics that means labor was offered too little compensation. I think you are suggesting that the federal government should step in if corporations set a price point for labor that doesn't attract workers. Yet, such action would be about the most direct action the government could take in order to widen the income gap in America and toss more workers into our social safety net.
Let me get this right. Trumps winery wants to hire people legally allowed to work in the US? When is the public execution scheduled for?
Sure. "I don't believe the data is better than these numbers I pulled from my *****" is one of the first arguments to make. And, it's easier to believe if you don't bother to look at the methods being used. And, I was talking about legal temporary foreign labor, too.
"Illegal immigration at the Southwest U.S. border with Mexico dropped 47 percent this July compared to last year, according to new data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection." https://www.mrctv.org/blog/illegal-immigration-july-drops-47-under-trump I think we can all agree that Trump has done an excellent job at controlling illegal immigration and is fighting to do much more. I think we should all agree to support him on this as we both agree it greatly helps the unskilled workers in our economy. “A 45-year low in border crossings? That’s not a coincidence,” Homan said. “That’s based on this president and his belief and letting the men and women of ICE and the Border Patrol do their job.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...b0995360725_story.html?utm_term=.7b1a6b017ace
Then show us that the number of actual illegal aliens that they say are here are accurate, then show us how they came to that conclusion. You know as well as everyone else that it's a lie. Just like I'm sure you're aware that there are about 5 times more DACA people than the 800k they are claiming are in the country.
Possibly true, but I'll bet there are some people in some less-well-off states who would still like to do that work. And, if Americans don't want to do the work - the winery should raise wages until they get enough interest. Free market and all that.
July doesn't make a trend. Plus, the justification for stopping illegal trafficking is different than that of stopping the number of undocumented aliens from increasing. It's not clear what is actually being stopped or diverted to other means of entry or even whether the lower numbers indicate a lower focus by enforcement. Remember that Trump has diverted enforcement to activities such as pursuing and nabbing a father who was picking up his kid from school! AND, the fact remains that there is NO written justification for spending tens of billions on the border. And, THAT is the issue. As a rational taxpayer, we should demand a justification when the cost reaches the tens of billions of dollars level.
You are intentionally missing the point. Trump's winery wants to hire non-Americans. Despite his campaign "Hire American" policy. World's biggest hypocrite.
