Do you have any links to credible sources that prove this information?

Turkey has been used to having its way and intimidating other countries in the "neighborhood". They've had a reasonably good relationship with Russia for a long time, and they've been able to bully the Kurds, Iraq, Syria, and even, to a degree -- Israel. That, plus the fact that they've had their NATO membership to protect them, the Turks have lived a comparatively threat-free life. Until now....

The "800 pound gorilla" in the Black Sea is Russia, not Turkey. BUT, I must say (tongue in cheek), I had really expected Putin to kick Erdogan's ass somewhat by now. Not some big, devastating all-out war, but enough of a retaliation for shooting down the Russian warplane that would "bloody Erdogan's nose", knock him to his knees, and remind Turkey that if Russia wants to it can tear Turkey's ass off of its backbone.... But, truth be told, nothing like that has happened at all. Hmmmm....
Thank you for the clarification and explanation. You are very helpful in these discussions, and I have learned much from you.

Are you, uh, OK? Suggestion -- when you make broad, sweeping statements like the ones you've posted here, provide links to information sources. Without them, you don't seem altogether, uh, coherent.

Why? That's what exactly what Obama wants. If russia retaliated, Obama could spin it and extend the sections against russia. "Russia attacking Turkey" is a great president

They can't close the strights. It violates the tents of the Law of the Sea and free passage. However, what I heard is that the Russians are doing is pointing weapons at Turkey and Turkish's interests in the area. And that changes the game a lot.

    Thanks a lot.
    You are wellcome.
And since 1973, things have changed a lot in Turkiye.
Of course there are good changes and bad changes. The major bad changing is the number of radical Islamists have increased for sure. But still, we are a secular nation and öost of us still wish our ATATURK's words to become true one day...PEACE AT HOME, PEACE AT WORLD.

This is very much my take too. I have a suspicion that Obama is battling the neocons who stalk the corridors of power and the Pentagon and who authorize these acts of aggression to create the situation where Obama can be forced to do their bidding. I suspect they'd like nothing better than see Putin openly retaliate. It would suit their agenda. My additional guess is that Putin will respond but at his own timing and in his own way and with an act that is deniable - even though all players will realize who dunnit.

I wonder what sections are you referring Mr. Spilled Milk. Section 1030 maybe:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation shall have primary authority to investigate offenses under subsection (a)(1) for any cases involving espionage, foreign counterintelligence, information protected against unauthorized disclosure for reasons of national defense or foreign relations, or Restricted Data (as that term is defined in section 11y of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (42 U.S.C. 2014(y)), except for offenses affecting the duties of the United States Secret Service pursuant to section 3056(a) of this title.

If it is a serious question here is my answer.
Education level of people is much more higher than 1973.
Turkiye is economically much much more stronger than 1973.
Roads, infrastructure of the cities are modern; they are much more better than most of the European countries.
Woman's attendance to social life is much more higher than 1973.
There are several industries (like iron&steel, chemical industries, pharmaceuticals, home electronics, textile, etc.) which are competing worldwide.
Construction industry is one of the best all around the world.
There are some worldwide brands like Turkish Airlines, Arcelik, Beko, Lassa, Turkcell which bring tens of billions of Dollars to Turkiye every year.
In spite of many problems parliament is working in Turkiye and have free elections on time. Unluckily this system brings us Erdogan since 13 years but what can I say, this is democracy.

Yeah the Turks know they can't close them. That's a given.

Moreover.....the Turks know they can defeat Russia in battle or in a War by themselves.

So Erdogan really should wake up to that fact of reality. As it is one that can't be changed.

All this topic is based on a 100% wrong information.
Turkiye did not close its straights.
I am just 3 days at this forum but I can easily understand that person who created this topic is a big troller.

Yeah, it would have been some major breaking news if Turkey had done so. They didn't. They have been giving the Russians some minor flak. Now the Russians are responding with their own trivial BS. Just to mess with Erdogan's head.

Which Putin knows just hot to play the hot-head Erdogan. Who tends to let his mouth overload his brain.

Not defeat Russia, silly. I said they could sink any ship that russia has in the black sea.
NATO will do what they want to do. They will never contact you and ask your opinion.

Who knows? You could actually be right. Russia appears to be "walking back" any threats of retaliation against Turkey. Different conclusions can be drawn from this decision, but one of them is that maybe Russia fears confrontation with Turkey more than I thought. The Russians trotted Medvedev out yesterday to share the information that Russia had decided against war with Turkey, and it seemed to me that they had him do it instead of Putin because it would have made Vladsky look weak.

I don't understand that you say Turkey attacked Russia. Russia was warned a dozen times not to invade their airspace or Turkey will defend its territory. Russia has an economy similar to Italy, which means they don't have the money to invade Ukraine and have a war in Syria, and now have another battle with Turkey. Turkey will have the support of NATO and the US. Russia is spreading themselves to wide and will implode. And if ISIS figures this out and decides to go after Russia then Russia will kill its economy trying to look tough. If ever there is a time Russia should put the cold war behind them and work along side the US, this is that time. ISIS is going to bring the world together sooner or later. I think now is the time to start talking about the world putting its silly-ness aside and come together as one. The only thing that can screw this up is Obama, we need any other world leader to take charge of this.
