I doubt very seriously that you believe those things. With the dozens of versions of the "Truth", thousands of denominations, it would be silly to toss all Christians into one pit considering they themselves can't even decide what to believe.

But face it, there are people who believe stupid things. Such as that cited in the OP. The Bible gives leeway and condones the belief in such stupid things.

I am simply at a loss as to why it seems you defend those that do subscribe to such blatantly stupid beliefs.

Thank God you guys don't read the Bible literally these days.

I bet you hold some beliefs I think are stupid. For one--your music choices. But I don't spend my time making a big deal about people with blatantly stupid ideas of what makes for good music because i don't agree with them. It speaks more of you than anyone you wish to mock.

Difference being, I do not come rushing to the defense of people who do not share my music tastes.

Nor do I cry blasphemy and persecution when someone is critical of my musical tastes.

    It is a terrible comparison.

What sort of altruistic defense do you think I've done? I don't defend dingbats just because they're Christian, and I'm not critical of non-believers just because they don't believe. If a person is an ass, he's an ass. If a person is reasonable, he's reasonable. Who am I defending? ???

Well--you're accusing me of things i'm not doing. If you're mad at the way some Christian is behaving--take it to him, not all of us, or you ARE persecuting based on religious beliefs, not reacting justifiably to bad behavior.

The title looked interesting. I didn't assume it was bait. Should I assume your threads are flamebait?

I was completely unaware that starting a thread against stupidity was a form of persecution.

I thought religious persecution was more along the lines of this:

Only if you believe what is disparaged in the OP.

    If not, then why worry?

Why would I subscribe to a religion that requires the subscription to a particular idea and eternal punishment for the rejection of that idea? Why would I believe that such a thought crime is worthy of punishment?

"Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal (*)(*)(*)(*)ation"

Who's asking you to subscribe to it? You say you're agnostic. Obviously you like talking about this God stuff...worry about God and fuhgeddabout people who try to scare Jesus into you. It is possible to discuss religion without trying to convert or mock. You should try it sometime. Currently, you're wasting your talents.

I do start those threads and have those discussions.

However it seems those threads die rather quickly (hence the reason why I believe you have not seen them) being that I doubt people have interest in discussing issues they are not familiar with.

Some of my threads are serious. Some are openly mocking. If the beliefs I mock and disparage do not apply to you, then why worry? There are a few posters here who are willfully ignorant and aggressively stupid, you are certainly not one of those people.

That's not a logical way of stopping people from attacking religion. Respond to my arguments.

What is there to respond to? Placing religion into a box of ideas that cannot be questioned and absolutely respected?

    I think not.

That is a straw man, my problem comes with not respecting religion by laughing at them. You should use respect in your arguments, they will be much stronger to your target audience, assuming they are Christian of course.

I do not respect silly ideas.

Whether it be a flat earth or the requirement of blood sacrifice.

people with a conscience would not need a religion to fill the void, now if one did not have a conscience, finding a source to be a synthetic conscience would be the only alternative

Why are these ideas silly to you? These ideas are old, possibly as old as mankind. You think ideas of god make man evil, but that's false. God doesn't make us evil, we make "god" evil and then follow him. Fighting god does not fight evil, genocide has been committed by the faithful and the faithless. Blaming the idea of god is not going to solve our problems. You think the idea of god is silly, but I know that is false. God gives some people hope, and I know people who really need that in life. How can anyone say god doesn't exist? No one has a perfect understanding of our reality, scientifically you must say that god's existence is plausible. Are plausible ideas that give people hope of seeing lost loved ones again really silly?

    They are both nonsensical.

The problem being is that the theistic model of God is paradoxical, a philosophical minefield I am yet to see a theist survive.

Another problem, people use those Holy texts to justify their own bigotries (being that the texts not only condone, and command such thoughts). Sure, some people not subscribe to that, but I don't care. It is in their supposedly "infallible" texts.

Religion gives hope? Thats nice. However, why would hate and bigotry need to be included in this hope?

A theistic being existence is plausible, however, without evidence, there is little reason to entertain the idea as if it were probable.

Don't you think human beings would find things to fight about other than God if there was no God belief in the equation? Hitler wasn't about God. Stalin wasn't about God. Pol Pot wasn't about God. Religion and God are an easy scapegoat. Your blaming God is lazy.

Being alive in itself is a sin.
Sin is thought, word, and deed.

Unless unconscious, and maybe not even then, one sins almost infinitely every day.
