Same here - a pure dyed in the wool non- political bureaucracy. It is made up of lifetime bureaucrats which CANNOT be changed at will with the government. I had not realised until the Trump regime how much of your government can be changed by a president.

perhaps the most accurate depiction of the British and Australian bureaucracy was the comedy series “Yes Minister”

You're naive if you think any bureaucracy is not political.

    Nice TV series, btw.

I always thought the bureaucracies were a law unto themselves.

Well that's true of course, but beside the point.

Just as Julian Assange has been unlawfully imprisoned for years by Britain and the US for speaking truth to power, this nurse has now been defrocked for speaking truth to power.

She has been able to speak freely.
    However there are consequences.
If she spoke expecting nothing to follow from what she says, then why speak at all?
I am at liberty to curse you with all the most objectionable words under the sun am I not?
However the consequence might be you will kill me.
She spoke, other things followed on from that.
There has been no curtailment of what some call ‘freedom of speech’.

I sympathise with what you say, but object to the use of the word ‘professional’.
The word is meaningless without a strict code of conduct attached to it.
Very often people throw around the term ‘unprofessional’ but they define it on the hoof to make it mean whatever they want.
Indeed anybody working at anything for pay is a ‘professional’ aren’t they?
