That's what you've been conditioned to believe Vern, yes.

For anybody over 60 or 70 years, Stone's work reminds you of sitting in the movie theater on Saturdays watching "News Of The World". It's very informative about Harry Truman and so many other figures of the times.

Yes, I have in addition to 10 other Gulag related books even the historical novel about when the Gulags were first used by Stalin.

One thing you may fail to mention being a Putin apologist is that over a million Americans went to the Gulags. What happened is that during a US economic downturn, Russia had very low unemployment. So, over 3 million Americans moved to Russia. Even professional baseball players. Then, as Stalins paranoia started gaining steam, he sent police out to steal people in the night and throw them into the gulags. Many times entire families and associates because you know, guilty by association. Well, leading up to World War II, Stalin was so paranoid that he sent his cronies to kidnap actual US Embassy employees in the middle of the night and threw them into the Gulags. The USA didn't do anything about it because they were in a crisis wondering if they should join Germany against Russia or join Russia against Germany way before they ended up joining the war. Unfortunately, nobody truly knew the extent of the atrocities the Nazi's and Russians were doing to populations due to their control of all media outlets. Sort of like Russia today where their Government controls all media to paint Russia in a positive light at all times even when Putin has his own people incarcerated or killed. These are things that don't happen in opposing nations like USA or Europe to any degree as crazy as Putin's version of Russia. You either be a perfect sheep or suffer in Russia.

Yes, very low unemployment. :) In fact Stalin started very rapid industrialization and in Russia there were not enough specialists. So they pay US companies to build factories and start production, and these companies used US specialists. I doubt that a lot of them end up un Gulag, because Stalin needed them.

Over a million of them went to the Gulags as per testimony of those who survived. There were even professional baseball players who moved over there to start up baseball leagues that ended up in the Gulags. You are correct for the initial reason Americans moved to Russia, but after 5 years over there, Stalin became extremely paranoid and send close to half of all Americans who went to help Russia into Gulags including USA Embassy employees which put great strains into Russia/USA relations at the time. Actually, USA was set to join Hitler against Russia until they started finding out about Hitlers atrocities. It came down to the lesser of two evils. Basically, America sacrificed innocent Americans living in Russia in order to take out Hitler. What should have happened is after demolishing Germany, we all should have taken out Stalin. Then, we wouldn't be dealing with crazy psychopaths like Putin now.

Where did You get this? A Million? Where did so many complete idiots come from? Even with the great depression, life in the US was much better than in the USSR.
