They were victims of an oppressive authoritarian dictator, not of socialism. They were be just as bad if they had an capitalist government with the same dictator.

 

Socialism would never be tried in a country if they had a truly decent and objective media. I hope the U.S. media is taking notice.

Not so. They were once one of the wealthiest countries in the world until they became socialist's in the 1970's, which was before Hugo Chavez!

Neither party wants to balance the budget for their own reasons.
Neither party wants to legalize drugs to allow kids to play in the street again.
Both Parties love the flag so much they want to plant it all over the world.
The dems are in power for weeks now and not one bill to allow for medicare to have bids for drugs, How can we trust them to come up with a plan to not continue to put 20% of our medical expenses into insurance companies profits and overhead.
Republicans with their thinking that investment income should be taxed less than earned income -WTF to me that is polar opposite- earning earned from labor should be taxed lower than earning earned from money if it is going to be taxed different.
Dems wailing that Trump is a racist while they want to allow hordes of illegal immigrants to flood the country and depress wages for the very people they purport to favor.

I doubt that Venezuela's economic disaster had anything to do with its form of government. They tied their whole economy to oil, because it paid really well. There was no reason to invest in anything else. When the price of oil dropped, they were in trouble. Having a corrupt government just made things worse for regular citizens, and corruption can be a problem in any form of government. If there was no government bailout, our soybean farmers could have had the same problem when they lost the market.

If there was no greed, we wouldn't have all of the political and economic problems that we have. If there was no greed or lust for power, we might not need any government at all. But, we need government to control people who can not control their greed and to protect us from individuals and countries that can not control their lust for power.

 

Reading history, I'm totally proud that my country brought the Nuremberg Trials. I'm totally proud that one of the prosecutors there, Hartley Shawcross, would observe that "There comes a point when a man must refuse to answer to his leader if he is also to answer to his own conscience."

Moreover, I heartily endorse Mark Twain's definition of patriotism: Patriotism means supporting your country all of the time, and its government only when it deserves it.

Alas, times marches on, and since the beginning of our undeclared Global War On Terror, the government of my country is much more well known for its military aggression and torture. Today's US is known for killing innocents with drones and nullifying various parts of its founding documents. Today's government in Washington, starting not long after our zenith at Nuremberg, overthrows legitimately elected governments as it pleases, and is doing so again in Venezuela.

But for the most part we are being kept safe. Sometimes you act like a mad dog in order to kill a mad dog and protect innocents. You forgot about the U.S. capturing enemy combatants and making them work in slave labor camps. No wait, that was the Germans and the Japanese. Those in Gitmo never had it so good. When you concentrate all the power into the hands of the government (and we're talking economic power, education, healthcare) there's probably a general tendency for that to happen.

 

When does capitalism not devolve into fascism, with the regulated entities writing the regulations that govern them?

 

Well for one thing, the more regulations government keeps passing, the more opportunities corporate lobbyists have to insert their own special interests in those new laws.

We saw this with Environmental efficiency regulations and the Affordable Care Act.
Light bulb companies and electric providers were able to make a fortune charging higher prices. Big corporate insurance companies would be able to guarantee a captive customer base that were required to buy from them.

 

The modern DNC wants Americans to forget about factual history and current events to push their horrible socialist agenda. It's unfortuate that there are so many, sheep, willing to fall for the DNC's propaganda

 

If America were to go socialist like Venezuela did I just can't picture American soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen being paid in toilet paper like how the Venezuelan military is paid.

 

The socialist Democrats even have their own Taliban to topple American statues and monuments of America's past history.
