As far as charges in this case go, it would be very bizarre if the SDNY didn't at least try to bring charges. They charged the lawyer and said they had evidence that the client directed the lawyer's actions; it would be practically unheard of them to charge the lawyer and not the client in such an instance.

 

That's where it can get kind of vague. When you run several big companies with your name as a brand image, protecting your personal reputation could be seen as a business expense.

It's also vague whether a politician paying money to protect their reputation or suppress a scandal could be seen as a legitimate campaign expense.

 

And murdering somebody who was blackmailing you could be seen as necessary and legal.

There are 10 instances in the Mueller Report where Mueller said he could have indicted Trump for obstruction if there was not a Justice Dept memo forbidding the indictment of a sitting President Something like 1000 prosecutors who looked at the report agreed and Mueller when asked whether Trump could be prosecuted if he was no longer President, said simply "Yes." One of the very few one-word answers he gave. Trump is toast in 2021 as I can't see ANY prosecutor letting him go.
