    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jul/25/gun-sales-surge-in-us

The next time something like this happens, a bunch of guys, scared for the safety of their family will start firing off rounds. There is a significant chance that other inoccents will be hit.

It's incredible what's happening in the US, the rest of the Western world is wondering WTF?!?!?

The rest of the western world is scared of guns and trying to sell their fear as superiority through arrogance and condescension.

Right, the proper answer to a gunman threatening a crowded theater is to cower and hide. Pray that the cops get there within 10 minutes, while the maniac sprays bullets into the crowd. You could try to head for the exits, but a safe exit requires that maniac has not booby trapped the exit and he's not simply going to aim for whoever tries to leave the theater, and that you aren't going to be trampled by hundreds of other people also running for the exits.

Or one ex-marine pulls his service pistol, drops maniac, and we march to the ticket counter to get a refund.

The rest of the Western world can in general go to the cinema without fear of being shot dead by the Joker!

Arrogance and condescension? Give me a break!

I don't think they'll ever completely eliminate ownership of guns. Just get rid of the automatic weapons and hand guns. As long as people can defend themselves with rifles, shotguns and musketry, that most likely meets the requirements of the 2nd amendment.

When someone starts shooting a gun, you run. Returning fire in a crowded, darkened cinema, with a film playing, with a loud audio track, with tear gas, is only going to result in you being held up on manslaugher charges as you shot a 12 year old girl. You will live that moment for the rest of your life; that you shot and killed a 12 year old girl.

I think secretly, this is what people against gun ownership want. Unfortunatly for them, if it happens, they will have to use matrix like tactics to survive.

Of course you can't, but the pro-guners propogate the myth that this is a binary issue: guns or no guns. While it is not. It is about reducing the amount of guns in society, and therefore reducing the likelihood of being shot by one.

I am not wondering. In my country you and your loved ones basically will get raped, robbed, mutilated or murdered at the whim of the perp...with no chance to defend, even in your own home.

I have no problem understanding why people in Aurora want to have the chance at least to defend themselves.

no it isn't. it's about being able to force a populace to do just as you say because they have no way to defend themselves. Many scholars with more education than you understand the 2nd amendment and it's constitutionality and LEGALITY. I don't know what YOUR problem is.

You already have a blood bath going in Chicago. Its to the point of a breakdown in the civil order. Strict gun laws haven't slowed it down a bit.

Wait a minute; that would make too much sense for the gun huggers. All they know is that they have to have their precious gun strapped to their side and the world around them is automatically safe. I guess they bring night vision goggles with them so they can pick out the perp with the gun shooting at people.

I suppose there is something to be said for Americans who own guns in every state. Perhaps this is why we have never been invaded.

I'm fine with the rest of the world being scared that we have our second amendment....good.

Like America, Switzerland won its independence in a revolutionary war fought by an armed citizenry.

Almost every adult male in Switzerland is legally required to possess a gun. It's one of the few nations with a higher per capita rate of gun ownership than the United States.

Switzerland has virtually no gun crime.

This from wikipedia...I know..wiki is biased but these are facts, not opinions.

    Switzerland
Main article: Gun politics in Switzerland

Switzerland practices universal conscription, which requires that all able-bodied male citizens keep fully automatic firearms at home in case of a call-up.
Every male between the ages of 20 and 34 is considered a candidate for conscription into the military, and following a brief period of active duty will commonly be enrolled in the militia until age or an inability to serve ends his service obligation.[51]
During their enrollment in the armed forces, these men are required to keep their government-issued selective fire combat rifles and semi-automatic handguns in their homes.[52]
Up until September 2007, soldiers also received 50 rounds of government-issued ammunition in a sealed box for storage at home.[53] In addition to these official weapons, Swiss citizens are allowed to purchase surplus-to-inventory combat rifles, and shooting is a popular sport in all the Swiss cantons.

These facts aside, some Swiss gun laws are more restrictive than those in the US.
Unlicensed persons are not permitted to carry weapons except under special certain circumstances such as travel to military training. Owners are legally responsible for third party access and usage of their weapons. Licensure is similar to other Germanic countries.[54]

In a referendum in February 2011 voters rejected a citizens' initiative which would have obliged armed services members' to store their rifles and pistols on military compounds (rather than keep them at home).[55]

How's that working out for you? 30,000+ gun related homicides a year. Not too well I'd say.

Who says? Whatever firearms exist, American's should have a right to own them legally. There will always be sick people in this world, no matter what you do with gun laws. Change the law so that citizens are only allowed to own a 22, and they will be faced with a nut with a AR15 who bought it illegally. Then what?

So can the rest of America. You're trying to pretend like this happens all the time. Because you're scared of guns.
